  • "This is our third stay at the property and we always have a lovely, relaxing time."

The cottage is beautifully furnished and very comfortable with everything you need. The location is superb, in a quiet rural location, but with all the stunning areas to visit close by including Saltburn, Sandsend, Whitby and Runswick Bay all within a short drive. Two small negatives - there is no information about bins in the property and the 5pm check in and 9am check out times are too late/early. If these could be relaxed by an hour it would be perfect.

  • "A really lovely cottage with beautiful garden."

Very well equipped and extremely comfortable. King size bed very comfy with quality bedding. We didnt need twin room. Upstairs shower great with large bath. (We didn't use downstairs shower). Kitchen well equipped, everything you could need. Generally extremely clean. A few reviews have said about the church clock chiming, but after the first day I can't say we noticed. It's definitely not Big Ben! Parking is plentiful and easy, directly opposite the cottage. We looked out of the window over the garden and onto our car. We took our small to medium sized dog who loved the garden and local walks. However, there is a note when you arrive requesting owners to keep their dogs to the hard floor areas, which is difficult as the lounge is carpeted and open plan into the kitchen. The stairs and all of the upstairs is carpeted too. Our dog is used to being with us, so this was a challenge, and I think if the cottage owner expects this, it should be in the cottage description before booking so not a surprise on arrival. There are a couple of other points that we feel are very important. In the handbook, there is no instruction for how to set the central heating or the underfloor heating. We sussed the CH as we googled the programmer. We also googled the UFH programmer but could not get the underfloor heating to come on, hence the conservatory was not used as it was cold. I know the owner says contact them, but this info should be available. We were shocked that given todays global environmental challenges there are no instructions or facilities for recycling and we could not find outdoor refuse bin(s) on the property. We feel that this needs to be improved and is essential going forward. The check in and out times are extreme and we felt we lost a day of our holiday. In at 3/4pm and out at 10am would be kinder. For all of the comments we have made, we had a wonderful week, thank you. The cottage is really lovely and we would visit again if recycling was sorted out and check in changed. The Ellerby is a great find for Sunday lunch or any day. Would recommend. 5* The Jolly Sailor (closest pub) is middling to ok, nothing to write home about and budget wise it cost us more than The Ellerby, and we felt no comparison quality-wise. Whitby typical seaside town. Lots of fish n chips places NOT dog friendly. There are a few if you look.

I will ammend dogs to downstairs. It was simply because we had a previous guest who allowed their pets on the furniture and beds , which simply ruined the expensive throws that were provided. The bins are situated at the end of the garden so as not to be in view of a window. there are three all labelled . Houshold, Garden and Recycle. Sorry about check in/out times but we are a two sister operation and have three properties to clean, although an hour either end we felt was not unreasonable. Property Owner

  • "A lovely cottage with great garden for the dog to play in, a beautiful area and would highly recommend it to people who love to explore the local countryside as there are some excellent footpaths just a stones throw from the cottages front door."

The only negatives are very little.. Provision of a washing up brush and surface cleaning spray and a dustpan & brush would of been handy. A clothes maid would be useful as the weather does not always allow the use of the washing line. And I personally think that 9am is a very early departure time and meant our last morning was very rushed, with 4 people wanting showers and breakfast.. and also having to strip our beds and putting it all in bags downstairs took time away too! (We have never had this in any other cottage we stayed in before!) 10am would be a more reasonable time in my opinion. Overall though we throughly enjoyed our stay here in such a charming little village!

  • "Fantastic property, great location and a comfy stay!"

The only tiny bugbear is that although there is a washing machine and pegs, we could not find an airer or a washing line to use to dry clothes that had been washed! Might be worth having a free-standing airer that could be used in the laundry room or outside if weather permits? But otherwise we could not fault the property, and will be booking again soon!

Sorry for late reply , i have just read this. !! There is a clothes airer in the utility room and a washing line (contracable) on the patio area. Sorry if they were not easily found, thats the reason i write on every card should there be any problems however small to ring me as im only in the village..... i think guests are reluctant to, but its really no bother. The cottage itself has everything you need and is of a very high standard of decor and cleanliness. The garden is stunning. The location is fantastic for visiting the surrounding area including Whitby, Saltburn, Sandsend, Runswick Bay, Robin Hoods Bay and Falling Foss. There is no local shop in the village, but there are supermarkets further afield. This is our second stay and we had a wonderful week. The only downside is the 5pm entry and 9am departure times, please make this 4pm and 10am in line with most other properties.

The property was warm and spacious and all the furniture and beds comfortable. The garden was spectacular, we were there over Easter and it was in full colour. The bedding and towels felt luxurious and the showers had great water pressure and plenty of hot water. The property is a great place to spend time in good or poor weather as there is also a fantastic/massive television to enjoy on a rainy day and plenty of space to spread out. The village is charming, we walked our dog regularly over to the football/cricket pitch to exercise but for all other needs you will need to use your car. We have already rebooked to return in the summer.

  • "Cheriton cottage is the most idyllic place we have ever stayed; within a 10 - 15 minute drive you can be in the midst of the amazing views of the Yorkshire Moors or, going in the other direction, you can walk for miles at the fabulous Yorkshire Coast."

The cottage itself is set in the quaint village of Moorsholm - so pretty and extremely well kept by the friendly community who live there. However, the nearest shop and pub are a short drive away. Cheriton is nothing short of a luxury home from home. You can tell it has been tastefully renovated throughout and no expense has been spared on the fixtures and fittings! We found that the cottage was really well equipped and spotlessly clean - we especially loved the luxurious bedding and the oversized soft fluffy towels. The shower was amazing too, although the water gets extremely hot so be careful! The garden is so pretty and even though it was too chilly for us to sit out, we could relax in the garden room at the back of the cottage with a book/newspaper and a cuppa (or glass of wine!) Honestly, if it's a relaxing stay you are wanting with close (driving) access to the Moors & Coast, you will not be disappointed here. Huge thanks to the owners for a lovely week, we shall return!

The pictures are reflective of the property and we’ll maintained garden. We did however find the fact that no TVs have standard signals quite annoying as it relied too n you having all the screen mirroring / casting devices and associates Apps and accounts for channels. Even with all of this (thankfully for us), the signal was poor at times. We feel having a TV with at least routine free view channels is a basic, unless otherwise included in the listing. My parents would never have managed with the requirements and there is no guide available.

  • "Lovely cottage and beautiful garden, sadly let down by previous guests with dogs who had not picked up after them in the garden, this was a concern for us as we have two children."

In terms of cleanliness, the dishwasher needs a thorough clean, especially the seals and filters. These were clogged when we arrived with grease and food remains. Also, high tog duvets far too thick in the hot July weather. This meant we had to strip all the beds on arrival, so we could just use the duvet covers. Owner should consider providing guests with smaller, light-weight duvets in the summer months. Kitchen has only very basic equipment and utensils, e.g. no fruit bowl, fine for us, but maybe a consideration for other guests.

(I’d love a list of where you got everything. from?!) Walking through the door were so ‘at home’ immediately, it has that feel to the place. The conservatory is a lovely place to spend the days before retiring to the cosy lounge. The garden is very well kept with lovely seating areas and table. Roadside parking could be a concern but not here it is so quiet and peaceful and no problem. Easy access to the A roads but far enough away not to realise!
