Pottowe Cottage

Host was lovely and very helpful with emails prior to our visit and kindly checking everything was OK on our 1st day.

The cottage was very spacious throughout and the sofas and bedroom furniture were of good quality, the kitchen had most things you would need during your stay. The bathroom was large with a good disabled walk in shower (though a hand rail(s) should perhaps be fitted to assist disabled guests) Unfortunately there were some negatives for us personally....not complaints but, rather, observations, and if put right would make a more welcoming stay for guests. The twin room had some large awful looking stains on the carpet as you went in the room. Mattresses are outdated with just springs- either need replacing or mattress toppers adding, as they weren't good to sleep on. Not sure about the twin beds but the double bed had no mattress protector which for me is a big no-no! Front door was difficult to open and plaster coming off around it....one of us could not open the door. Outdoors in general could do with some work as not very inviting- furniture and umbrella also a bit dirty. Some painting and better finishing required in most areas...plus the cobwebs on the kitchen higher areas could do with removing as they are plentiful and look like they've been there some time. More crockery required i.e. plates etc. Whilst this looks like a long list, they are not meant as a complaint as the cottage was good on the whole, and certainly backed up by a good attentive host. Simple remedies I would say, which would have resulted in 5 stars across the board.

Pottowe Cottage is situated in peaceful surroundings and has everything needed for a comfortable stay.

Keith; the owner, was there to greet us and make sure we were okay with everything. He very kindly loaned us a toilet frame and shower chair which was very welcome. The bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of hot water (a bonus). We hope to return in the near future. 29th May 2026 to 5th June 2026

Lovely comfortable clean place to stay.

Property owner very helpful and friendly, went above and beyond. He brought over a shower chair and prop for my elderly mother and was very informative of the surrounding area giving us lots of options of things to do.

This cottage was a great place to stay for our holiday.

The cottage was all on one level which was great for me as I have limited mobility with my multiple sclerosis. Set on a quiet country farm it was the perfect setting to relax for myself and my friend. Also a great place to visit the North Yorkshire Moors & Coast. We will definitely book our holiday here again.

Excellent for wheelchair users if you bring your own hoist if needed.

Would help greatly if there was continued solid flooring throughout (in bedrooms as carpets atm). Could do with more plates and mugs, only a suggestion. Lovely stay again in a good position to visit accessible places, Bowes museum is excellent in every way.

We needed to find somewhere for over the bonfire night period, this Cottage was perfect.

The owner Keith lives on site in the farmhouse and is always connectable and very helpful. Having been told about our dogs fear of fireworks he went out of his way to find out if and when there were any nearby, we were then prepared, not that we heard many anyway. All in all, a very enjoyable, relaxing and peaceful stay in a lovely location.

We'll equipped cottage in a good location with very friendly and helpful owners. Good wheelchair access. Some areas could do with a bit of a freshen up. We would recommend and would be happy to stay here again.

This was a lovely cottage to stay in, in a good position close to all amenities set in beautiful countryside.

Our daughter uses a wheelchair and requires hoisting (we brought our own hoist) for all transfers. The space in the cottage was excellent and worked well for us. If we could change one thing it would be to continue the hard flooring into the bedrooms.

And excellent for the wheelchair, my husband had no problems at all. My grandchildren loved the play area. The dog was able to go outside without supervision. Very quiet and peaceful. Outside seating area with parasol when required. All in all a lovely cottage in a beautiful area of the country. Owner very friendly and helpful.

the accommodation was spacious with plenty of storage for our luggage.

the owner was very pleasant. we found slugs in the kitchen on our first night. they had probably crawled under the door. there are adhesive strips gardeners use to deter slugs and snails. one of these across the bottom of the door frame should solve the problem. we had difficulty finding the place at first but the owner cut the grass covering the sign later that day. there wasn't many leaflets of places to go and instructions for use of appliances was in short supply.

Overall we had a lovely stay nice location overlooking the hills very quiet and peaceful.

The floor needed a mop,some of the cups were stained, shower curtain needed a clean. Very suitable for my elderly father plenty of space lovely big bathroom very large shower. Comfortable bed nice clean linen, had everything we needed.

What a perfect place to stay everything was thought about so comfortable and relaxing definitely will go back

The hosts were lovely and very attentive. The cottage was very clean, spacious and well equipped. We found plenty to do around the area and would definitely return.

Lovely location, owner great and was there to meet us.

Through no fault of his own it was found that the beds had not been changed, so that was fine straight away for us. It became apparent that no cleaning had been done as bathroom bins were not emptied. Other than the cleaning, wonderful place and we would definitely go back.

Pottowe cottage is ideally located for visiting the North Yorkshire moors and the Yorkshire Dales.

Very comfortable cottage in a quiet location. Plenty of pubs nearby that do delicious food. About 2 miles from shops so don't forget your toilet roll as none provided. Certainly would consider going back.

Had a lovely stay, very well equipped and clean.

Keith was most friendly and helpful. We initially booked for one weeks stay but then booked for a further 3 weeks as it was very peaceful and comfortable. Lovely scenery from the cottage and Holly our black labrador loved the open spaces. Would highly recommend Gerard and Odette

and the horses a pleasure to watch. The property is warm and comfortable and very well designed for those with mobility issues (lots of space to get the wheelchair round, smooth floors, accessible shower etc). The bedrooms are spacious with plenty of storage space (but sadly no mirrors to do our make-up), the beds very comfortable and the quality of the pillows and bedding was excellent. Tea, coffe and sugar and a local newspaper were very welcome on arrival as was the well-equipped games box for the couple of wet days we had. We are looking forward to returning next year Thank you to Keith for being a helpful and friendly host.

23/9/22 We arrived at potto cottage where the owner Keith showed us around and explained all about the cottage and where we could shop locally.

We loved the cottage and had no problems getting my wife’s power wheelchair around inside/outside.Enjoyed our stay and travelling around the area.Keith the owner was always there to help if we needed help or advice .Look forward to returning there in the future. David and Lesley.

This was our 3rd time staying at Pottowe Cottage and we enjoy it every time, as an electric wheelchair user I have no problems at the cottage and finding a place like this, where I know I can manage is ideal, the owners are brilliant and helpful and if in doubt they will discuss the property to make sure suitable for your needs, you can also hire equipment nearby if required.

. massive amounts of space for me to move around in, the bathroom is huge with a bath or shower, yes there are no rails as a previous reviewer noted but I personally don't require them and find them more a hinderance in places...the location is great as straight on motorway to access many places and the coast is also not too far... all in all another fab week and here's to hopefully returning again very soon for another visit

Left early,booked as a disabled client,property quite unsuitable,no grab bars in large wet room toilet too low even for my husband,owner states he offered me frame for toilet,not so.

settees soft saggy leather,most uncomfortable,long corridor with rugs,trip hazard! Front door lintel very high when exiting in electric chair frightening.uneven flags to front door.on the whole expensive and upsetting,did tell owner our thoughts,politely but he told us property not listed for disability occupation so sykes cottages should look again when a prospective customer googles for disabled accommodation

We had a relaxing stay at Pottowe Cottage.

My husband is disabled and the ramps and shower adaptations were very welcome. The views from the cottage were fantastic and the whole place had an out of the way feel about it, even though it was well within contact of civilisation. The owners were very helpful and we really enjoyed our week.

I chose Pottowe Cottage because it offers disabled access for guests and I was not disappointed, as what we found catered for my wife's needs admirably.

The accommodation was well supplied with everything to make our visit comfortable and enjoyable. Keith went out of his way to make sure we lacked nothing. The absence of house and locality facilities information and tourist leaflets was the only minor difficulty. We can thoroughly recommend Pottowe Cottage and if we ever want to return to North Yorkshire, we will certainly want to book here again. Thank you Keith.

could do with the beds been higher and toilet. Very clean and everything there for you.

This accommodation was fantastic for us as i am severely disabled.

The amount if space made it easy for me to get around and the shower & size of bathroom were perfect. The only thing which presented a problem was the toilet which was very low. If the tiolet had been a higher type, this woyld have helped enormously and would ebcourage mire dusabled guests. Given this, we would still come again. The facilities and location were great. Thank you.

The cottage was much better than we expected from the pictures.

It's spacious and clean. The kitchen was well equipped, and had everything we wanted. It's ideally located to explore North Yorkshire and the moor with great scenery and beautiful countryside. We would love to come back again.

yes lovely place to stay secluded just what I wanted lovely touches like milk in fridge biscuits texts from Keith the owner to say welcome and wishing us a nice time.

a few things that we noticed was that the cobwebs that where high up on various ceilings and a good few loose tiles in the kitchen and bathroom. don't get me wrong the place was lovely and Keith couldn't do enough to help. I would stay there again defiantly

Pottowe Cottage was delightful set in peaceful surroundings with outstanding views!

The cottage itself was spacious clean & warm just ideal for all of us one of whom was in a wheelchair .we had a great week with lovely weather & a very helpful owner , Keith .

We enjoyed our stay here - it provided a good base from which to visit family living nearby.

Met our needs for the duration of stay - hosts/owners were very helpful and we are grateful for their speedy resolution of a malfunction oven!

We would like to point out that the bathroom flooring was very slippery.

Grab rails would have greatly improved the shower area. The bath was excellent with good hot water. Property was warm, comfortable and very clean with a well equipped kitchen. A most enjoyable stay.

This was a lovely place to stay .

Lovely scenery in this area and plenty of places of interest to travel to using this cottage as a good base to start from. The cottage was well equipped warm and mostly comfortable . Bed was a little too firm and having a disabled person with us an extra toilet would have been a bonus . on the whole a good place to stay. Owner was helpful and on hand if we needed anything, quiet and peaceful place with lovely views.

Comfortable, spacious and accessible cottage.

One of us is a wheelchair user - there isn't hoisting or a profiling bed, etc., but the cottage is easy to get around in a wheelchair & the bedrooms are roomy, as is the living area. We liked the open plan kitchen / dining / lounge experience. The outside areas look great for fine weather though we didn't get the chance to get out much. It worked out for the dog though. Nice having TVs in bedrooms - various missing/broken remotes for AV equipment but overall a well-equipped and lovely place.

Fab owners did everything they could to make stay go smoothly and lovely place to stay, good for wheelchair users as long as someone else with you, will be returning in the future

We stayed in Pottowe Cottage and it was a delight.

It is very comfortable and well equipped - very easy to live in. The setting is peaceful and quiet, set in lovely scenery with a good view from the decking. All the facilities inside the cottage are excellent. There is plenty of storage. We can thoroughly recommend these cottages. We shall certainly return!

The cottage is very spacious in a quiet location with a good road network

Keith was very accommodating and asked if there was anything he could put in place to make our break more enjoyable for our disabled daughter,he put wheels on one of the single beds to make it easier for pulling out the bed so we could get either side for getting our daughter dressed and changed.

The cottage is clean,well appointed and comfortable We had a lovely time and will definitely be returning in the near future Thankyou Keith

Comfortable for a wheelchair user.

Excellent facilities, lovely position with plenty to do within easy reach. Very pleased with our holiday and the cost.

Great cottage , all on one level and could use wheelchair to get around.

Very comfortable and when we had a small problem it was sorted immediately. very dog friendly. however although there is a paddock to walk them round there are no public footpaths nearby if you want to take the dogs for a longer walk in the morning. Beware of the rabbits. ample parking and good storage. nice outdoor area to sit and watch the rabbits playing. Would recommend this cottage to anyone with a disability but who is still able to move around as no grab rails.and dog lovers.

Lovely cottage wide doors for wheelchair was plenty of room to get my daughter round the property in her wheelchair.

walk in shower was excellent. Log fire easy to light a warm cosy cottage Play pool in games room and had a look round stables and petted a horse called Harvey would recommend tomahawk restraunt in potts and the fish n chip restraunt in saltburn

Pottowe Cottage provides a perfect base for exploring the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors and coast.

It is located in a quiet and peaceful setting with glorious views of the Cleveland Hills. The cottage is spacious, clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The owner is very helpful and friendly . It is especially recommended for wheelchair users as the corridors are wide and the accessibile bathroom is very user friendly. We enjoyed our stay immensely and our disabled son was so comfortable. We highly recommend a holiday at Pottowe Cottage.

We have stayed at pottowe twice before.

Keith is always improving the properties. We loved the new log cabin with enclosed garden. We might stay in it next time but my mother is a wheelchair user and the disabled shower is brilliant to enable me to help her. We look forward to a bridge to the bottom field. The cottage is always clean, warming and comfortable.

The location of the cottage is excellent if you need to relax in peace because it is quite far away from the road so it's very quiet.

The cottage owner is very welcoming and provided us with all the information we needed about the area. He also allowed us to change the booking to the other cottage when we realised that the cottage (Cooper) we originally booked didn't have a walk-in shower which could have proved difficult for my husband who has mobility problem. Pottowe Cottage is very roamy, clean and just what we wanted really. The only downside about the holiday is that the cottage doesn't have a wi-fi connection so you are totally cut off from the rest of the world. My daughter who was working on her dissertation and needed the internet could not do anything so had to go to York to work instead. The cottage owner has actually got a wi-fi connection and perhaps in future (just a suggestion), they provide a wi-fi key to the cottages for their guest to tap in - it would not cost them extra to provide this. The area is rich in history and there are so many interesting places to visit - abbey, priory, ruined castles, historic houses and lovely seaside towns. We visited Saltburn-by-the-way which is a beautiful place. Castle Howard is the one not to miss. Thank you, Sykes Cottages!
