Hackney House

Our short stay in Hackney House was family gathering, 3 generations, and we all thoroughly enjoyed it.

The house is very spacious, comfortable, welcoming and well equipped and a short walk to shops and great pubs in Reeth. We arrived on a cold snowy day but the house was lovely and warm. All bedrooms but one have an ensuite which we really appreciated. Reeth is a quaint village ideally situated to explore the dales. The owner is friendly and responsive and offered advice which was much appreciated. We all had an amazing time.

The house met our needs, it was comfortable, enough room for us all to sit comfortably, loved the dining table for Christmas Dinner, we could all sit and chat, with it being a square table, the serving hatch was a welcome addition, good to pass the food through from the kitchen The Aga took a bit of getting used to, wasn't aware that it took a few hours to heat up but kept the kitchen nice and warm once it was on fully Not sure the under floor heating was working in the kitchen, only seemed to be warm around the door area but nowhere else.

Fully equipped kitchen, which was great, could do with more tea towels as we had to keep washing the three we had, always have lots of pots at Christmas. Lovely location, the only drawback was that the house is on a bend and you can't see the traffic coming round the corner so need to be careful when crossing the road. A five minute walk into the village, with three pubs which were all lovely ( really liked The Buck)

Hackney house is extremely comfortable and well equipped.

9 mature adults stayed for a week and had a great time in the lovely village of Reeth, with abundant walking trails to suit all levels. The house is clean and well maintained with very comfortable beds, good bed linen and good quality towels. With all the bedrooms bar one being en suite ( private bathroom adjacent to the other one) was most welcome. Large lounge and dining room ( with extra seating) gave us plenty of space to spread out. Plenty of crockery, cutlery glass wear, cooking stuff etc. An American fridge freeze gave plenty of space for our groceries. Great area to explore Richmond, Leyburn, Barnard Castle all a short drive away. The village as 3 pubs and 1 hotel for meals & 2 cafes, a general store, bakery and newsagents. All a few minutes walk away Even though Hackney House is on the road it is not a busy road especially at night. Beautiful views from all windows, a lovely donkey in the back field was nice to see. Great time was had by all , can't wait to return ! Still plenty to see and do ! Excellent house, which is very well equipped and beautifully furnished.

The house is in a great location especially for walkers, and the village is charming. The host was more than helpful offering very useful suggestions, which enhanced our stay. I can't recommend highly enough.

Booked for a family celebration, really pleased that we could find accommodation for everyone to stay together.

A lovely home in a great location, the h8gh spec kitchen had everything you needed with a usefull serving hatch to the large separate dining room which easily fitted us all in. Great walks from the door and a couple of good pubs in the village. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Our second stay at Hackney house because we loved it so much the first time.

Lovely to get a call from the owner prior to even leaving home and when we got to the house it was almost home from home. The cottage is laid out logically with everything in place, particularly the kitchen. So often, cottages on arrival are cool, not the case here as we felt comfortable from the word go. The whole house is clean and had everything we needed. Beds and bedding are all good quality as is everything in the kitchen. Reeth is lovely, it has two pubs, one particularly good but also the Bridge Inn at Grinton is less than 15 mins pleasant walk away. If you are considering this area, particularly for good walking, I doubt you will do better than Hackney House.

As a family of 10 we recently stayed at Hackney House, Reeth.

We enjoyed all aspects of the house, especially the large square dining table which enables the whole group to participate in conversation. The living room is comfortable with 3 large sofas & a big screen TV. There is a log burner in the lounge but the house is very warm & wasn't needed during our stay. The bedrooms are all spacious with en suite bathrooms & very comfortable beds. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay & wouldn't hesitate to stay at this property again. A big thumbs up from all 10 of us!

Hackney house is beautiful, the amenities in the house are brilliant, the beds are extremely comfortable and the views are amazing.

It’s also in an amazing location and within walking distance to the village Reeth and the lovely friendly pub the Black Bull. The owner James reached out to us before we arrived, he couldn’t do enough for us. We would totally recommend James and Hackney House.

Fantastic location, suited our needs.

Our party of 12 came in 5 cars.

Parking facilities were disappointing - the description could be better worded to highlight parking on verge and roadside. We were advised that the 2 reserved spaces were for another property. Otherwise we were pleased with the property and its facilities.

We were a group of 9 single adults and found the house comfortable and well located within walking distance of the village centre.

It was suitable for cooking our own meals and also handy for pub meals,ice cream parlour and cafe. It was about equidistant between Richmond and Hawes and the excellent independent supermarket at Leyburn. We had numerous walks from the door to explore,from river walks to hills.

Lovely spacious and well appointed house.

We spent a lovely long weekend with three generations celebrating a 40th birthday and a 45th wedding anniversary. It was a perfect base for lovely walks and outings and the village was charming with excellent pubs and icecreams!

We found Hackney House ideal for our large family.

It was clean, warm and welcoming. The facilities were ideal, plenty of crockery etc and the room were as advertised. The bedding was clean and fresh and everywhere was great. We would recommend Hackney House to friends and family. The location was ideal, within walking distance to the village pubs and close to lovely walks. There was parking outside but also plenty of free parking in the village. The welcome pack was very much appreciated too.

We had a reunion weekend for 10 adults and loved the house, the area, the walking and the pubs.

It all worked so well. It was great being able to walk from Reeth, without having to drive. The house was great for cooking, eating and socialising together without feeling cramped. Will recommend to my friends as a great weekend away venue.

Perfect accommodation for our extended family of 9 aged 7 - 70 to gather for a weekend celebration.

Lovely, comfortable communal spaces with room for all and excellent kitchen facilities. Serving hatch worked fine for us. No recycling information that we could find. Open view across the dale from the front of the house. The walk to Healaugh was good for all with some longer views even from a low level. We were complimented by the supermarket delivery driver as we must have given more detailed address; they said that otherwise Hackney House is shown as being around the corner (Google?) which can cause confusion. We would definitely return

A group of 11 adults looking for a relaxing time in the Yorkshire dales after xmas.

We found the property was well equipped with everything we needed. The property was clean & spacious, with sufficient seating to relax in the lounge & for meals around the very large dining table. The local pubs & shops were within a very short walk. There were also some lovely walks, being in beautiful Yorkshire. We would highly recommend staying at Hackney House.

The house was clean, comfortable and well equipped. We did a mixture of eating in and going out and Reeth has a good range of pubs and cafes. The living room was perfect for sitting around and chatting. We really enjoyed our stay.

Reeth is a great location for some more gentle walking (having visited the Lakes previous years), and Hackney House was an excellent and comfortable base for our party of 10.

Swaledale is a beautiful part of the world, and the national park and the farming community deserve huge credit for the pristine paths and fields you can enjoy to your hearts content.

Comfortable house very near village centre.

Great location for walkers and cyclists. Great views from the front of the house. Well equipped kitchen. Our only real problem was that the hot water system ran cold for no apparent reason but we eventually got it going again. One bedroom on the top floor had a bit of a musty smell, possibly due to dampness. The house has a very comfortable sitting room but it is a shame that it is at the back of the house and therefore doesn't benefit from the sunshine in the afternoon and evening.

We were ten adults and a baby, and we had a wonderful time at Hackney House in Reeth.

The house was easy to be in and very comfortable. So many bathrooms! We enjoyed being so close to the middle of town. What a beautiful village! We took several great hikes. The owner James as well as the agency were very responsive to questions about the house. We cooked great food there and had everything we needed. Thank you so much.

A very enjoyable stay.

Hackney House met our needs very well. Suggested changes: * more info on website and in the house about the locality. For example. Shops available in Reeth, walks from the house, sites for river swimming in the dale. * system for waste disposal not clear. Just one small metal dustbin in backyard, nothing about recycling. * consider swapping dining room and sitting room location. The kitchen hatch helped but not much. Lots of long walks between kitchen and dining room. Thanks for a great stay

Reeth is a lovely village with three pubs, all different so something for everyone. We found everyone very friendly and helpful.

This is a great house for a family celebration as for my Mums 80th birthday weekend.

It's in a lovely setting for walks and visits to a pub. It is well maintained, nicely decorated and well equipped. We really enjoyed our stay. It accommodated 10 of us comfortably and the kitchen was well equipped for us to make and serve a large family meals. We really enjoyed our stay. Fabulous and really spacious.

There were 12 adults in our party and more than enough room for us all. 5 minute walk to 3 local pubs, lovely walks and views from bedroom windows were amazing. Would thoroughly recommend and will definitely try and stay again if we can manage to our families together for a weekend next year.

Lovely holiday house in beautiful Reeth.

Our 3 generation family of 6 adults, 7 children, (aged 8 months to 15 years), and one dog, enjoyed a weeks get together at Hackney House this summer. The house is very spacious, clean and well furnished with enough comfortable seating for us all to be together in both the large dining room and lounge. This is the best equipped holiday rental home we’ve ever stayed in… the soft furnishings and bed linen are good quality. The kitchen had everything, an Aga, also an electric oven, hob and microwave, large fridge freezer with water and ice dispenser, washer and drier, quality utensils, tableware etc.…even had a dog bed and bowls, a welcome hamper and good Wifi. All 6 bedrooms were spacious with beautiful views, really comfortable beds, TVs and their own shower/bathrooms. We were a very short walk from Reeth village centre which is picturesque and surrounded by stunning countryside. There are three pubs which serve meals and a fine dining restaurant/hotel. We were welcomed in the local shop, post office, newsagent/gift shop and the bakery, there’s an ice cream parlour and one or two cafes, all set around a large village green. There’s also a small museum, playground and a doctor’s surgery. Just down the road from the house the other way was a shallow river where our children played and paddled. There’s pretty villages to visit nearby… we mainly shopped at Richmond which has a Lidl, but pretty Barnard Castle, Hawes and Leyburn, all a short drive away, are worth a visit. There is walking/hiking from the front door, the bigger boys climbed the big hill and flew kites from top. We visited nearby Aysgarth Falls which is beautiful, there’s High Force too but our favourite was less busy Wain Wath Force where we picnicked, paddled and swam. The front garden has a barbecue, large table and seating, back yard is small but adequate for the dog and washing etc. there are donkeys, sheep and rabbits to see in the field over the back fence and the bonus of the village green and play ground close by and the open countryside. One small niggle was the lack of power to the downstairs en-suite shower, but there was also a bath and five other shower rooms I could have used if needed. We had a fantastic summer holiday thank you. I was a very happy Grandma having all of my grandchildren together around me. They forgot their Xboxes, PlayStations and computers for a week and not one of them missed them. We loved the village and the house in the summer, but with the Aga and the log burners we thought it would also be wonderful for Winter/Christmas holiday breaks. Must lastly thank the very efficient and friendly caretakers who were there within an hour when we managed to get a bedroom door lock stuck.

Host was very good also and contacted us before and after and accommodated our changes we made last minute. We will stay here again!

Great house for a crowd.

Very comfortable. Adequate comfortable seating in lounge. Great kitchen and very well stocked. Welcome hamper was very generous. A few little niggles bedroom on ground floor had no door to en-suite plus sink was very small hardly big enough to clean teeth also shower not great in this room. Cleanliness was ok but could be improved. I went to use hoover but it was chockablock also no broom to sweep kitchen floor.

12 of us stayed for aa big family weekend and had a superb time.

Kitchen and dining facilities were excellent. Already thinking about a repeat visit.
