  • "Ivy cottage is beautiful and everything appears to be new."

The sitting room is cosy and comfortable whilst also being stylish. The kitchen is very well appointed having both a dishwasher and a washing machine. Upstairs the main bedroom is decorated in soothing colours and the bed is extremely comfortable with plenty of hanging space and drawers. Again, with the twin room, beds are very comfortable and large enough for an adult. The linen is spotlessly clean. Outside, there is an enclosed private courtyard with table and chairs to enjoy a glass of wine weather permitting! It was lovely to receive a welcome pack of wine biscuits, milk and tea etc, and the Richmond souvenier mugs was a nice touch. Provision of cleaning supplies made life easier. A few more cups would be useful but I'm sure the owner is aware of that. We had a really enjoyable week staying at Ivy cottage, with the only downside for me being that it is set directly on a fast and extremely busy road where no one seems to heed the speed limit, but this seems to be an issue in Richmond generally. Thank you for providing a lovely holiday cottage

  • "Ivy cottage is an excellent place to stay."

The furnishings, fittings & decor are all superb. Everything is of a very high quality, & the welcome was lovely. It is in an ideal position to explore Richmond, which is just a short 10 minute walk to the centre. We would highly recommend this property to anyone who wants to stay in the area.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend."

My only recommendatio, I think the cottage would benefit from having a dual shower head.

  • "A lovely cottage, great decor, very well maintained, clean and comfortable with everything we needed."

We loved the little finishing touches like dog bowls, dog treats as well as treats for the adults (biscuits, milk and Prosecco). There is a lovely enclosed patio area which was great for us and our four legged friend. Loved the addition of an air fryer which is ideal if you don't want to use the oven for proper meals but maybe just want to have sausages or bacon for breakfast. And it's in a great location, near to the centre and near to lots of walks. We loved it.

  • "Fantastic cottage, lovely courtyard and only a 10 minute stroll into the market square."

No allocated parking but street parking was plentiful and free. The road outside if fairly busy, but you don’t really notice it in the courtyard. I would definitely return next time I’m in the area.

  • "My trip to Richmond was very short notice and the two hotels where all my colleagues were staying were filled."

I booked this lovely cottage and I’m so glad I did - it was perfect! It was clean, comfortable, quiet, and well equipped. The location was a lovely short walk to the beautiful town. When I return, I will certainly rent the Ivy cottage again. Thanks so much!

  • "Perfect little cottage in a fab location."

The cottage was so cosy and had everything we needed for our stay. The outdoor space to the rear was brilliant too. Within easy walking distance into town and we had no issues with parking. We parked up on arrival and left the car until it was time to leave. Highly recommend and would happily choose Ivy Cottage for future visits.

  • "A delightful property which feels recently renovated."

A well-equipped home, comfy bed and the little extras were a lovely welcome and appreciated. Great location into Richmond with great walks on the doorstep. I would definitely recommend Ivy Cottage.

  • "This is a beautiful little cottage and we had a lovely stay."

Parking was not a problem we always managed to find a space along the road not too far from the cottage. We did find the road outside very busy and had to keep the bedroom windows closed at night as it kept us awake. The quality of the fixtures and fittings was wonderful and everything seemed brand new (it probably was), milk in the fridge and wine and biscuits left for us was a really nice touch and much appreciated. Could I suggest a little shelf in the small bedroom for toiletries, the space would be fine for one person but for two it was a bit of a struggle. We loved the outside seating area and spent many hours out there enjoying the sunshine. An easy walk into the town was an added bonus but a bit of a hill to climb coming back. All in all a lovely stay and I would recommend it to anyone thinking of coming.

RICHMOND

Barnard Castle 10 miles; Leyburn 12 miles.

Situated at the entrance to Swaledale, the ancient market town of Richmond stands on a prominent hilltop site to the north of the River Swale. Its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman fortress dating back to 1071, famously situated high above the river - indeed the name Richmond is derived from 'Riche-mont' meaning 'strong hill'. Today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Within the town, narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers’ market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. The town flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries and the resulting elegant Georgian architecture lines many of the old streets. The Georgian Theatre is one of the oldest surviving theatres in the country with visitors enjoying its regular productions all year round.
