  • "A beautiful cottage with everything we needed for a home from home stay."

The cottage is decorated to a high standard with quality furnishings throughout. The owners have provided absolutely everything anyone could need and the drawers and cupboards are well stocked with all the small bits and pieces you might find yourself in need of. Comfortable beds and excellent cleanliness throughout. I thoroughly recommend this property.

  • "When we arrived the road up to the cottage was really bad a number of pot holes that needed repair."

When we entered the cottage it looked fine very dark with the dark wood everywhere would be better a lot lighter we noticed cob webs and spiders all over the house I had to hoover the whole place before the rest of my family arrived, outside the doors and windows and table and chairs were the same . I think a walk-in shower would help older people staying there as the bathroom small. Everything you would need in the kitchen and appliances.

  • "The property has lovely views over the valley to the range of hills and being high up and on the end is quite open (to the wind as well !"

). It was clean and tidy but there were a number of issues After a four hour drive in the cold and rain it was very disappointing to find that no heating had been left on and it took several hours to warm up. The property felt unwelcoming not least as we had sort of hoped for something if only a pint if milk or a few fresh flowers to show the owners cared. The second bedroom had one bed hard against a radiator and the third housed the noisy boiler. As the shower is over the bath a grab handle on the wall would have facilitated easier access and would be a safety feature. The timbered ceiling downstairs has no central light which would have enabled easier reading and doing puzzles etc.. All the chairs lacked pads on unforgiving wooden seats. While the agent describes the uphill drive they fail to mention this is on a heavily repaired and seriously bumpy single track of only passable quality. Finally the TV has Netflix and other subscription services though this was not in the write up.

Our only gripe was that light levels were too low for reading both during the day and after dark - a standard lamp would have been useful. We enjoyed the views of the hills. It is well situated for visiting the Yorkshire Coast and the Yorkshire Moors. We particularly liked the beach at Runswick Bay. Whitby can be reached on foot, it is a pleasant 30-40 minutes walk. A trip to York is also feasible. We felt comfortable inside the house, the deco is cosy, we enjoyed the books and maps provided. The master bedroom is rather small (not much space to walk around the bed). A large pan (eg. for cooking pasta) would be a useful addition to the kitchen. The owner is friendly an responds promptly to messenges. All in all a very pleasant stay, would recommend it.

  • "The cottage was in a fairly out of the way location at the top of a hill (which was described in the advert)."

It suited us fine as we were up for plenty of walking, we did not want to be in the car every day. It was a pleasant walk from the cottage into Whitby along either of 2 tracks, which we did on a few occasions. The village of Ruswarp was OK but very small, it did have a grocery shop, a butchers and a pub. We visited the pub on the day we arrived but it wasn't what we enjoy so didn't return. Maybe in different times it would have been better but just not for us. As we were using the cottage as a base for walking and some driving around the area, it was great. The cottage itself exceeded our expectations, it had everything you could ask for. All of the equipment was in good order and of very high standard, very useful was the drawer with instruction manuals for every piece of equipment. Bedding and towels were great quality, something that is often forgotten. There was plenty of information on where to go and what to do provided in the maps and leaflets that were provided, we did actually use the maps. I have no complaints about the cottage at all and would definitely recommend it. Jenny, who I was given as a contact was excellent, when I contacted her she came back to me within a very short space of time. The cottage wouldn't be for everyone, but that would be down to location, not the cottage itself. We had a brilliant week. Richard & Sandie

The double was the most comfortable with two of the singles very average and one single in urgent need of a replacement mattress. The location of the cottage is up a very steep track that older people could possibly negotiate so a car has to be used at all times to leave the cottage. This should be made clear in the advert.
