  • "We had such a fabulous day at Goathland Cottage."

It makes such a great base for exploring Whitby and surrounding areas. Nice and cosy, clean, comfy beds, nice shower, well-equipped kitchen and really comfy sofas! Was lovely for the kids too with football nets outside and sheep and lambs around the cottage to say hello to every morning. Also for rainy days there’s a great big soft play within short walking distance, and Netflix and Disney+ on the really good TV too. Beautiful views all around. We would highly recommend staying here and would come back again - thank you!

  • "Lovely cottage the views are beautiful, and you hear the steam trains and sheep that's it, we will definitely stay again, the beds are very comfortable, super clean and has everything there you need towels, teatowels cleaning products we only had to bring our clothes and other bits."

Fantastic butchers at Sleights use the car park opposite and Spar next door to butchers, has everything you need. Only thing I would say there was no welcome pack at cottage, so you will need to buy milk if you want a cup of tea after travelling on arrival. We visited Egton Bridge , Goathland, Grosmont, Sandend, Whitby Perry,s plants at Ruswarp lovely little place by the river with a cute cafe. We did not do the boat rowing but it did look fun. The owner of the cottage is lovely very friendly and available.

Needs to come on about 4 so there's hot water for a shower when you return from day out . Switching emersion on when you get in still means waiting for hot water

The amenities are great. The view tremendous of Whitby abbey. Plenty of information provided on walking and local attractions. Loved wooley the sheep and the chickens down the hill. We are going to return (If we can get a booking slot!). It is a long walk into Whitby but interesting by the river and railway so eat your fish and chips in Whitby. Mini railway and rowing boats a short walk down the hill. It us steep so take your time if walking. Thank you once more Jenny for making our stay fabulous!

  • "The cottage was in a fairly out of the way location at the top of a hill (which was described in the advert)."

It suited us fine as we were up for plenty of walking, we did not want to be in the car every day. It was a pleasant walk from the cottage into Whitby along either of 2 tracks, which we did on a few occasions. The village of Ruswarp was OK but very small, it did have a grocery shop, a butchers and a pub. We visited the pub on the day we arrived but it wasn't what we enjoy so didn't return. Maybe in different times it would have been better but just not for us. As we were using the cottage as a base for walking and some driving around the area, it was great. The cottage itself exceeded our expectations, it had everything you could ask for. All of the equipment was in good order and of very high standard, very useful was the drawer with instruction manuals for every piece of equipment. Bedding and towels were great quality, something that is often forgotten. There was plenty of information on where to go and what to do provided in the maps and leaflets that were provided, we did actually use the maps. I have no complaints about the cottage at all and would definitely recommend it. Jenny, who I was given as a contact was excellent, when I contacted her she came back to me within a very short space of time. The cottage wouldn't be for everyone, but that would be down to location, not the cottage itself. We had a brilliant week. Richard & Sandie

Idillic setting and close to everything you could possibly want to see and do. Extra measures in place due to the current climate but everything still spot on.

  • "This would be our third time here at the cottage, as we always come in the winter we thought we would try in the summer."

We noticed that the mattress's have all been changed, which is a great improvement. Even more cosy than before now. Not used to summer time here, as you can imagine quite a lot busier. As you are away from the town it is nice and peaceful here, if you want night life then you will have to go into Whitby, just make sure you go after 6pm when the car parks are free. Looking forward to many more times here.

  • "This was hands down one of the best holidays I’ve been on with my family, the cottage was phenomenal, it had everything and more you could imagine inside facilities wise, lovely spacious rooms upstairs and downstairs, was amazing wake up to the sound of steam engines going past, being able to view the abbey from the car parking area, and even the facilities outside football nets, slides, and it was really close to other amenities, we mostly did Grosmont Station, Whitby and Scarborough and you can to all them in under 30 mins!"

I could go on for days, it was just an unbelievably fantastic place to stay and I can’t wait to book it again for next year!!!

Spotlessly clean. All facilities, equipment etc. Owner had left some essentials too. Lovely warm and cosy cottage, in an ideal location. The road to the cottage is a steep single-track with some holes and ruts, but is quite manageable in a normal car.

Had a new smart tv installed while we were there, which was a great improvement. It is a very homely warm cottage with plenty to do in and around.Only one negative is the mattresses are getting tired, apart from that a great break for us.

We thank you very much for your comments which we always welcome so we can put things right and improve our facilities. New mattresses have been ordered for all the beds and will be fitted during February. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was well equipped and comfortable except that the beds were not to the standard one would expect."

The double was the most comfortable with two of the singles very average and one single in urgent need of a replacement mattress. The location of the cottage is up a very steep track that older people could possibly negotiate so a car has to be used at all times to leave the cottage. This should be made clear in the advert. This said, we did enjoy the holiday immensely but would not visit this site again due to its hill top location.
