Only a short walk to the beach yet so quiet and peaceful, just listening to the birds. The cottage has everything we needed and the kitchen extension is beautifully done, almost feels like we're out in the garden. You can feel all the love and care that has been put into creating this home, which makes it so much more than just your usual holiday let cottage. We didn't want to go home and hope to go back again soon!

Great location. Imagine parking could be problematic during high season.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you had a lovely time and enjoyed The Cottage. Parking in the Valley itself is generally just for the residents and properties in that area including The Cottage, so it is not normally a major issue. There is also a carpark located at the bottom of Lythe bank -Sandsend Car Park, and Mulgrave car park. There is also roadside parking available in Sandsend. Property Owner

It was beautifully maintained. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it. There are limits to what can be achieved from a petite period property however, so I wouldn't recommend to the taller traveller! For us it was just right.

  • "The Cottage is a welcoming well presented, well equipped property, lovingly maintained to a very high standard."

A real home from home. The kitchen and dining area is light and spacious, the lounge is a peaceful place to chill after a days exploring, listen to music (there are ALEXA speakers dotted around), reading a book or simply snoozing on the comfortable sofa. The master bedroom is small as you'd expect in a period cottage, but had everything you could possiby need including plenty of storage, a large comfortable bed and dressing table. There are two modern bathrooms, one up, one down. Welcome touches such a fresh flowers, dressing gowns and peronal welcome message on the chalk board made the visit even more special. For us the location was perfect, set in a quiet valley of similarly beautiful houses, just a couple of minutes walk up from the sea front. Sandsend never felt busy and was the ideal base to explore the North Yorkshire coast. Whitby was a 5 minute drive away, but we prefered the walk, we recommend turning left after the glof clubhouse for some stunning views. A beautiful cottage, (one of the best we habe stayed in), in a stunning part of the world. We loved it.

Every room was spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished and presented. The kitchen is a lovely light and sunny room and has everything you need to prepare a full meal, the sitting room is spacious and very comfortable and the bedroom lends itself wonderfully to an excellent nights sleep with quality bedding and lovely fluffy towels. Walking distance to some very nice cafes, restaurants and of course the beach. A great base to explore this lovely part of the country.

  • "This is a lovely tastefully decorated small cottage making the most of the space availble."

It is very well appointed, however there is no space for a washing machine. The outside space is delightful although small. The view over the valley is outstanding and the sea front very close. The beach is beautiful The only drawback is the 28 steps to go up whenever you come back to the cottage, especially when you arrive with heavy luggage! There is a village shop, nice pub, the Hart, 2 cafes, a smart restaurant and a good gift shop.

Thank you for your comments. I am glad you enjoyed your stay at The Cottage and appreciated the amazing location and views. It is stated on the website that this is a small cottage with steps leading up to the property. There is also a large sloped garden at the front of the property, spread over two tiers with seating areas. Were you aware of this? Property Owner

Exceptionally clean. 28 steps up to the cottage after crossing a little bridge so a bit of a trek to carry luggage and essentials but all will become worth it as it’s so peaceful and relaxing the view of the valley is delightful and you can see the sea when you lie in bed.

So many little extras are included and the heating warmed the house upon our return in no time at all. The location is perfect in terms of being in a quiet enclave (but still on the doorstep for all of Sandsend's amenities) and where you get the evening sunshine longer than everyone else. I missed a bath but the shower was as good as you get so no matter. Superb inside and out!

The views from the Cottage are lovely and there is a pretty garden to the front of the property on a terrace with two seating areas. There is also a small garden to the rear. The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable, the only thing we expected which was listed on the website was a dishwasher, but appreciate there isn't room for one or a washing machine.

  • "For some reason i can't click onto the above lists, but it is an amazing and comfortable cottage."

However there was a huge problem for us. To access the cottage from the car parking area you have to cross a foot bridge with 4 steps up and then 6 down and then 28 steep steps up to the cottage. This was a big problem for my wife because of health issues. You should have this in the information about the cottage on your website. We would not have booked it if we had known about it! We understand that other people have had similar problems. Before we booked it we asked about access from the car park and were told their were a few steps up to the cottage, which gave us a false expectation.

About the location

SANDSEND

Whitby 2.5 miles.

Lying on Yorkshire's spectacular Heritage Coastline, Sandsend is the ideal place for a family holiday with its award winning, wide sweeping beaches, rock pools and dramatic cliffs. Indeed this part of the coastline is known locally as the Dinosaur Coast because of the many fossils found here. Children will enjoy damming the little beck where it crosses the beach to form a freshwater lagoon - great (and safe) for paddling and boating! For the more energetic the village sits on the lovely long distance Cleveland Way Trail, which offers great off-road cycling along the disused coastal railway as well as breathtaking clifftop walks. The National Trust now own the nearby headland, Sandsend Ness, where there is a delightful nature trail in the old quarry pits. A special place offering something for everyone!
