  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here."

    Firstly, it was such a warm touch to walk in after a long drive and see a generous welcome pack. The house is well decorated and furnished. It's layout and provision of equipment is really well thought out. It's in a central location that's quiet, ideally positioned on the edge of a lively and great town, within easy walking distance. We benefitted too from the perfect outdoor space to sit and take in the peace while watching the river trundle by. We enjoyed lovely walks around Barnard Castle and beyond. But it was always good to return to a homely space. Thank you.

    The views over the river are fabulous, a short walk into town with plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants. So many places to visit that we were spoiled for choice.     The views towards the river were amazing and we were lucky enough with the weather to use the garden with lots of comfortable seating. Really appreciated all the extras such as handwash, shower gel and toilet rolls. Lovely walks along the river in either direction. Would love to return to this cottage as it had everything we needed. Thank you to the owner who was easy to contact and replied quickly.

There is a drop at the back of the house as shown in the pictures but not clearly mentioned in the listing I have addressed this with Sykes cottage’s,. We have a gate and fence ready to be installed to make the front of the house more secure for dogs and also provide a temporary fence at the back if guests feel they need to make it more secure for animals and children. I hope this addresses the issues you had with the facilities. Property Owner

  • "This is really a fabulous cottage for a relaxing holiday, in a really interesting area."

    We were lucky to stay during quite heavy snow, which made it even more cosy and beautiful! It's in the town centre (easy walk to pubs and restaurants) but very quiet, with a beautiful outlook from the back of the property onto the river. You can spend all day watching wildlife (particularly the resident cormorant!). The cottage itself is very cosy and well equipped, everything is clean and modern, and the woodburner is a real plus in the colder weather. We'll be back! (& the closest pub The Blue Bell is a real gem...)

Begin your getaway by parking up outside and then crossing the threshold into your new home-from-home, where an open-plan living space greets you.

Step into the sitting room, where you can unwind in front of the crackling wood-burning stove, before cooking up a storm in the fully equipped kitchen.

Enjoy this with your loved ones around the dining table.

If the weather is nice, take advantage of the beautiful patio, which boasts incredible views across the river.

Dine alfresco and raise a toast to your getaway, with the trickling river as the soundtrack to your evening.

When the sun sets, venture back inside and to the first floor, where you can freshen up in the family bathroom before choosing between two double bedrooms or a single room to catch up on sleep.

BARNARD CASTLE

The market town of Barnard Castle is situated in the unspoilt countryside of Teesdale in County Durham. It stands on the site of an ancient Roman fort which crosses the river. The medieval ruins of the castle still tower over the river and are well worth a visit. Known affectionately as 'Barney’ by residents and visitors alike, the town boasts cobble streets, yards and back lanes, which were first laid out in the 12th century. The nearby Bowes Museum is well worth a visit and a wonderful way to spend a day wandering around this beautiful building and experiencing the fascinating exhibitions. Beautiful walking country is right on the doorstep of this lovely market town, with woodland walks and cycle routes and the Lake District, the Pennine and Teesdale Ways, and the River Tees and magnificent waterfalls at High Force are all within easy reach.
