  • "Lovely property, very comfortable and well equipped."

There is some road noise but we knew we were on the main road and it actually didn't bother us. We had a slight issue with the heating but this was dealt with very quickly and the owners were great. We also liked Barnard Castle and the surrounding area so hope to return. One point to note - Sykes gave us an incorrect key code, thankfully when we arrived the office was still open.

  • "Ronnies roost was a perfect base for touring the local surroundings, a really cosy apartment with ample facilities."

We really could not find fault with anything about the flat.

We are very pleased you enjoyed your holiday! Our aim is that Ronnie’s Roost is a welcoming, cozy base at the end of a busy day exploring and we work very hard to maintain our high standards. Property Owner

  • "What a beautiful place, set in the centre of Barnard Castle."

The perfect spot to explore the area. This place is a stunning home from home, they had thought of everything, half the stuff I took I didn’t need to because it had already been covered and thought about. We had the best week. And will be back x thanks so so much

Thank you so much for your very kind feedback! It is lovely to hear you felt happy and comfortable in Ronnie’s Roost. We hope to welcome you back very soon! Property Owner

  • "Disregard the entrance."

Beyond the owners control. Beautiful and comfortable. A home from home. We were a little anxious about the parking but there was no in front but a long stay for £1.50 , which is walkable through the passage at the side of the entrance. Yes the pub was a little noisy on Friday. But if you can't beat them join in ! Lovely town easy access to loads of walks

Thank you for visiting Ronnie’s Roost and being lovely guests! We hope to welcome you back soon. Property Owner

  • "Hi we were very surprised at the amount of stairs there were at this property."

34 in total, all of us are pensioners so we found it exhausting emptying the car when we first arrived. The flat itself was very nice and spacious with a well equipped kitchen with a lovely fridge freezer but alas no cupboard space for food. In the living room there were two settees but these were the type with scatter back cushions and they were very uncomfortable to say the least. My husband used the dining room chairs due to the settees making his back ache. The beds were nice and comfortable, and the rooms were large. It was quite hot while we were staying there and it was very difficult to open the windows and to get them to stay open. We all love Barnard Castle so we will definitely be going there again but we won’t be going to Ronnies Roost.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you found our property welcoming, clean and spacious. We work very hard to ensure the comfort and wellbeing of our guests. Property Owner

We had everything we needed and loved the coziness of the main room and watching the world go by from the dining table. Lovely details throughout and all very thoughtfully done.

  • "The house was good value and in a great location."

Parking was no issue. The sofa was very comfy, the kitchen was very well-equipped and the shower was good. The beds were a little hard, but this may be down to personal preference. Finishing touches were missing (peeling paint in places in the lounge, rough tile edgings on the kitchen, a few glasses not cleaned properly). The main issue which will prevent us coming back was the noise (and we understand that this is beyond the owners' control) - the main road outside was used as a drag-strip at night and the pub across the road ran karaoke until 1.30am on the Friday. All this disturbed me, the dog and meant we didn't get a decent sleep. Overall, a good property and with a little work could probably command a higher price, but the noise was just too much and we won't be returning for that reason alone.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to see you rated the cleanliness of the flat highly as we work very hard to maintain the property to a comfortable and welcoming standard. All of our other guests have found it to be so. We are sorry the firmness of the bed and the town centre location were not to your satisfaction. We hope you have better success with future property choices. Property Owner

This superb and unique space has a kitchen equipped with all of the essentials, including an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, washing machine, and dishwasher.

You'll have no problem serving up your best dishes at the dining table with a view for four; why not pair it with a glass of fizz to toast to your retreat?

After supper, curl up on the plush, velvet sofas in front of the TV for a relaxing evening ready for tomorrow's adventures.

Freshen up with a bubble bath or a hot shower in the pristine bathroom, complete with two wash basins so no need to share!

Start your staycation by exploring Barnard Castle and choose from a variety of independent shops, public houses, and restaurants, such as the quirky Crobar, with draft ales or the family run Three Horseshoes Hotel situated just around the corner.

There are cafes galore to choose from, artisan bakers and butchers/deli counters that are second to none.

Just below the apartment on the first Saturday of the month and every Wednesday is the celebrated Barnard Castle Farmers Market with yet more delicious locally produced fare, including gifts and crafts to browse, sample and take away from your stay here in Barnard Castle.

There are not one, but two award-winning Indian restaurants, a popular Italian and the superb Valentines restaurant serving home cooked food, not to mention excellent takeaways including our two beloved fish and chip shops.

Sitting on a high rock overlooking the River Tees, the ruins of Barnard Castle are a must visit (visible from all rooms in Ronnie's Roost), as well as The Bowes Museum, home of the famous Silver Swan and many beautiful pieces of art, including paintings by Goya and El Greco.

The River Tees and its many lovely walks, including Deepdale Nature Reserve, are a stone’s throw from Ronnie’s Roost and the evocative ruins of Egglestone Abbey, a pleasant walk away.

About the location

Staindrop 6 miles; Richmond 13 miles; Darlington 16 miles; Durham 20 miles.

The market town of Barnard Castle is situated in the unspoilt countryside of Teesdale in County Durham. It stands on the site of an ancient Roman fort which crosses the river. The medieval ruins of the castle still tower over the river and are well worth a visit. Known affectionately as 'Barney’ by residents and visitors alike, the town boasts cobble streets, yards and back lanes, which were first laid out in the 12th century. The nearby Bowes Museum is well worth a visit and a wonderful way to spend a day wandering around this beautiful building and experiencing the fascinating exhibitions. Beautiful walking country is right on the doorstep of this lovely market town, with woodland walks and cycle routes and the Lake District, the Pennine and Teesdale Ways, and the River Tees and magnificent waterfalls at High Force are all within easy reach.
