Really nice, spacious flat in a great location.

My family and I loved it and there's loads to do nearby. Can not recommend it enough! My family and I had a great time.

Overall we really enjoyed our week in The Flat.

It was spacious, well equipped and ideally situated within the town. The parking permit was a great help… thank you! Also the bread, butter, milk was very thoughtful.The collection of walks, places to visit, etc was also very helpful. The one criticism we had, were the white vertical blinds in the bedroom. We were awake at 4.30am each morning with the summer sunrises! They’ll be fine during the winter months! Would we return?……. Definitely!

A fantastic base to explore the area.

Lots of great cafes, restaurants, independent shops and things to see nearby. The Flat was really comfortable, clean and very well appointed. Really good and clear communication with the owner beforehand. Parking in car park behind the property was very convenient, useful having EV charging points too. Would definitely stay here again in the future.

Everything about the property was first class. Very clean, warm and comfortable with quality fixtures and fittings. Pleasing decor and an attractive mix of furnishings. The personalised welcome pack was much appreciated, as was the pre-arranged free parking. Mel is friendly and helpful. We would thoroughly recommend The Flat as a base for exploring Barnard Castle and the surrounding area.

We had a lovely stay despite the weather. The welcome hamper was a nice touch along with the dressing gowns. Bedding really good, though mattresses a little hard for us, but it wouldn't stop us returning. Just some minor things that would help 1) a long mirror near a plug in twin bedroom. 2) freezer/compartment in the kitchen would be useful instead of having to walk down to the cold utility room, but guess there isn't the space 3) the shelf above the small sink in en-suite makes it difficult to wash

The Flat was very spacious and comfortable and the owner, Mel extremely helpful.

The property is above the lively main street of Barnard Castle and could not be more convenient for exploring the town and some Christmas shopping. A free parking permit was arranged by the owner. Bowes Museum is outstanding. We love Barnard Castle and the surrounding countryside. People were so friendly and there is a strong sense of community.

The Flat is Great and the owner Mel very helpful; everything you need for a long weekend; two couples in our party and we found the Flat spacious, clean and welcoming with everything we needed.

The best pubs we found for Food and Drinks was first the Old Well Inn and also the Three Horseshoes; Babul’s Curry house was OK with some very nice independent cafes for Breakfast or coffees; nice walks along the River Tyne. We enjoyed Barnard Castle and would love to come back in the Summer.

When we arrived at the flat Mel the owner had left a greeting basket of bread, milk ,tea and coffee which was so nice.

The flat itself was excellent so clean everything you could possibly need for a very comfortable stay. The owner Mel as thought of everything she left instructions for everything WiFi, how the tv works, how the oven works all easy to follow. Barnard Castle is really lovely we will definitely return. Would definitely recommend the flat.

It was exactly as advertised, it was immaculate throughout and had everything there and more.; from lovely white fluffy towels to excellent quality bedding . It was a pleasure to return to The Flat after a days site seeing , a real home from home . Can’t wait to return !

Lovely flat in a historic area.

The flat is very well equipped. 2 flights of stairs are not very steep so easily accessible. The kitchen very well set out. Only used the toaster as after all it is a holiday! Living room with 2 sofas which is brilliant for a family. The use of Netflix’s helped with evening entertainment. Didn’t like the wooden floor as one floorboard was loose and the floor very noisy to walk on. 2 separate bedrooms, little strange the en-suite was off the twin room rather than the double. Daughter ended up with the double and myself and hubby had the twin due to him needing the toilet during the night and didn’t want him falling down the stairs and ruining the holiday! The noise from what I can assume was the upper flat late at night wasn’t good though, fire escape ran straight past the twin room windows so they woke us up a few times, as well as having a security light shin straight through the blinds. So I would defiantly recommend some curtains being put up for a better sleeping experience. Also a mirror in the twin bedroom. Don’t let this put anyone off, we loved our stay and all the surrounding areas were well accessible for touring around. Overall this flat is well worth the stay.

My sisters and I stayed at this property whilst visiting our elderly parents recently.

The flat was lovely and large with a modern bathroom and kitchen, and a lounge that retained some historical features such as wall panelling and gorgeous floorboards in keeping with its Grade II listing. Certainly plenty of room for us three. Mel was a pleasure to deal with and quick to respond so was an excellent host. The parking arrangements are excellent as long as the permit is placed face up rather than the wee note on the reverse. I managed to get myself a ticket and suspect I may not be the first. Just a matter of double checking, something I failed to do! Overall, I can heartily recommend.

Our second time at this very comfortable & convenient apartment.

Deceiving property as much larger than you may think, 2 bed, 2 bath - one en suite. Compact kitchen but everything you need, nice large lounge with comfy sofas & large dining table. Right on the market place so ideal for all the town shops, pubs, cafes etc - we can highly recommend Valentines restaurant. Plenty of walk options in all directions right from the property, host excellent and the parking permit is a great asset. We will be back.

The Flat was very comfortable and looked out over the Main Street where there was always activity to watch but far enough away not to be bothered by traffic noise.

The flat had everything you would need in terms of cooking and entertainment, with some really informative how to do it lists. Parking wasn’t an issue as the car park was a very short walk away and on the last night I parked the car after 6pm just outside the flat so that loading the car would be easier the next morning. The location is excellent just walk out your door and you’re in amongst the shops and eateries, you really don’t have to go anywhere else and just relax. I would definitely recommend this accommodation and wouldn’t hesitate to book again.

A simply perfect place to stay to explore a wonderful town.

The flat was warm and cozy and was a joy to return to after a day of exploring. Everything had been considered. The Bowes Museum was just round the corner and there are plenty of lovely local walks. We parked the car and didn’t use it the whole week!

Absolutely wonderful flat, in a perfect location right in the centre of the town.

The Flat was a real home from home and quite quirky which was lovely. Felt so warm and welcoming. The owner has put a great deal of thought into welcoming visitors by providing a bespoke welcome pack taking into account your needs and also provided dressing gowns which were another lovely touch. We enjoyed it so much that whilst there we have booked another week next year!!

Our first time in Barnard Castle.

The flat was everything we hoped for, and more. The photos don’t do it justice. Very warm, clean and spacious, with everything you would need provided. A home from home. The properties location was perfect to see everything BC has to offer, with places to eat, drink and shop on the doorstep, as well as the Castle and the Bowes museum only short walks away. Parking is a two minute walk away, and the parking permit meant one less thing to worry about. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch, tailored to our requirements, as were the dressing robes, which was much appreciated. We will certainly be returning to the flat in the near future. The flat is in a great location in Castle Barnard, perfect for just popping down the High Street or round the corner to Bowes Museum.

We found the flat sparkling clean, warm and very well equipped with everything we needed. The welcome hamper was great, personalised to us after an email with Mel so we knew that we didn’t need to take milk or bread - a real bonus. The flat is on a main road so you do hear some traffic noise but the bedrooms are at the back so that is minimal and not a problem. If you like a place where you can walk to get a meal whilst still be handy for beautiful scenery this is the place for you!

This is a lovely property, even nicer than the photos depict.

The owner, Mel, who lives on site, could not have been more kind or helpful. We woke one morning to find the heat and hot water had shut off. Within moments of receiving my call, she was at the property and had everything up and running. The property is located in a perfect spot, convenient to shopping and the center of town. We will certainly stay here again.

We have just spent 2 weeks at the Flat and cant fault it.

The place was very clean and well presented, everything you could want for a stay was on hand from pots and pans to cooling fans we didnt feel like we could want for anything. You are on a High street so it can be a bit noisy in the lounge at sometimes of day, but in the bedrooms it is very quiet so you do get a good nights sleep. Both shower rooms are fitted out very well the shower in the upstairs bathroom was very powerful and refreshing. We would gladly return here in the future

More than you need for a week away.

Plenty in the local area to do and eat. Flat is in a great location to the town. Comfortable, clean and we'll serviced. You won't be disappointed.

The Flat was spotlessly clean on arrival.

Right in the centre of town, it was lot busier than I expected, but its a lovely place. The welcome basket was a kind gesture, and the dressing gowns was an added bonus. It could do with some kind of little night light at the top of the stairs because when you need the bathroom in the middle of the night it's pitch black and you can't see where you're going. It's a great holiday place, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone!

Ideal for two couples with plenty of space and a well kitted kitchen. Very impressed with Barnard Castle . Everyone was friendly and very helpful. Great location to visit the area with lots of attractions within an hour's drive as well as Swaledale just over the moor.

The flat is on the Main Street close to everything, Absolutely beautiful accommodation that has been renovated in keeping with the buildings age. Spotlessly clean everywhere.Everything you require is there. Top quality bathroom fittings and lovely bedding. Kitchen is small but everything you require is there. I knew from walking up the stairs this was going to be a beautiful place to stay. Barnard Castle is a bustling town with plenty of shops, cafes and pubs. Bowes museum is a nice leisurely walk away. The low force and high force waterfalls are a must visit.By shear luck it was the towns gala weekend which we really enjoyed. Will definitely stay here again

A fantastic flat - it had everything we needed and was far more spacious than we thought it would be.

Very well decorated and the layout was great. The location in the centre of Barnard Castle was fab - close to shops and restaurants, but quiet at night (mainly due to the fact that the bedrooms were at the back of the flat, overlooking a courtyard). The parking permit and the welcome pack provided were lovely touches - it really felt as though the owners genuinely wanted us to have an amazing holiday (unlike in some properties which come with a list of rules which make you immediately feel unwelcome!). We would definitely return and have already recommended the flat to family.

Location perfect right on main street in the town, never any noise issues. Parking permit really handy but you can park right outside if space (2 free hours ideal for loading/unloading. Communication with owner, instructions etc top class. Can highly recommend and we will be back !!

We went for my birthday and The Flat was perfect, everything you could need for an amazing week away. The accommodation was an old property, but a perfect example of how old doesn't mean run down, the decor was lovely throughout, with some lovely period features yet modern touches too. The bed was extremely comfortable, the 2 shower rooms immaculately done, a small but spot on kitchen with lots of crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment. The dressing gowns were a lovely touch, and the welcome pack had the best bread we've ever had, and the owner, Mel, was very helpful. The Flat is well situated to explore the market town, which has lots of pubs, eating places and independent shops, and an ideal location for exploring the beautiful area and getting some good long walks in. We would recommend a meal at the Italian, we went twice just to make sure the first meal wasn't a fluke with how delicious it was, and indeed was just as perfect the second time. The little coffee shop next to McNabs book shop had the best coffee in town. We will definitely be back as we have so much left to explore.

We loved The Flat.

It was super clean, spacious and comfortable. We liked all the extras too - the welcome hamper of essentials, the dressing gowns, the handy bedside torches and so much more. The Flat is fantastically situated, right in the heart of this delightful town, with pubs, cafes, shops, the castle and a charming church just minutes walk away. Barnard Castle is also a perfect base for exploring county Durham and neighbouring Yorkshire. Thanks so much for making our holiday so enjoyable.

Property was great.

A super location near plenty of eateries, even ones which serve vegan food for one of our party. A wonderful area to explore. Our grown up sons enjoyed the adult sized beds in the twin room and the ensuite. Bathroom for double room very good too. We needed to contact owners for instructions for window opening and location of thin blankets during a very hot week. They responded very quickly, which was much appreciated. We'll be back.

This is a lovely flat in a very convenient position in the attractive town of Barnard Castle.

There is everything you need, although no freezer or freezer compartment in the fridge, so no ice for drinks! It is a lovely interesting town, parking is free with the permit in the flat, and the area around is easy to get too, and well worth visiting. We loved it.

This flat was very well equipped, comfortable.

It met all our requirements. Having 2 bathrooms was a bonus, as was having the 2 tv's and Netflix in the property. It was in the center of town which had plenty of restaurants and cafes and local shops. This property was fantastic, the cleanliness was above and beyond our expectations. The welcome hamper left for us was lovely, also having the dressing gowns was a lovely touch. This is our second visit to The Flat, I would highly recommend this property.

Modern decor with good modern kitchen/dining equipment (not full of odd bits).

Everything we needed was there even down to dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid detergent for the washing machine we needn't have taken anything the flat was beautifully furnished and decorated in a very central position and spotlessly clean.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this accommodation to anyone visiting the area.

Superbly appointed (no bath - but that's very personal!

) and spotlessly clean. Bang in the middle of BC but the busy street scene didn't intrude. The sympathetic conversion / decoration / furnishing, with excellent wi-fi / TV in every room + Freesat made for a brilliant stay and we'll try to book again for next year.

The Flat is a credit to the owners.

We wanted for nothing and everything in the flat is top quality. We have taken holidays with Sykes every year and always pick a property and location by reading previous guests feed back. This is one of the best we have stayed in. The location is perfect. Step out of the door and you are in the center of lovely Barnard Castle's old Market place. With history so close the lovely Castle, River Tees and The Bowes museum are only 5 minutes walk away. We did not move the car for 3 days. It is in an ideal position for venturing further a field. A fabulous flat in a central location with easy access to all local amenities plus the local and regional beauty spots/attractions.

Really good property (this is our second stay there).

Town centre location is great and there are many walks from the door, plus shops, restaurants, pubs, takeaways, etc. Everything very comfortable and clean, we felt very happy with all the extra cleaning for COVID. We would definitely recommend this property and would stay there again.

Flat well equipped and in good location in the middle of town.

The flat itself was spotlessly clean the location couldn't have been better and the welcome pack was great wasn't expecting an email asking what kind of bread milk tea and butter which was great.

I felt not having a clear view of the street as Venetian blinds always down over lovely big windows was annoying.

No need for this as flat above a shop. Having plenty of space and the interesting layout of the flat was welcome. The kitchen is well equipped, comfy bed plenty of storage. The flat is well placed for local walks and places of interest as well as going further afield.

The Flat is in a very good position in the town with easy parking ,just around the corner at no cost using the parking permit provided.

Immaculate and cosy with lovely touches like dressing gowns and a welcome basket that enhance your stay. We loved staying at the flat, it was an ideal base for stunning hikes and enjoyable lazy days . We would love to come back in the future, and do it all again.

Really enjoyed our stay at number 3.

The flat was beautifully presented and very well equipped. Slight reservation that parking is in a car park not visible from property but encounted no problems. Had a wonderful week exploring the area.

Unfortunately we thought this was a top floor flat as the arrow on the listing seems to depict this.

We left a night early as we couldnt cope with the major noise from the flat above at night. Banging moving furniture and all very late which disturbed us. Such a shame because the flat itself was beautiful. spotlessly clean and in a great place for town and the owners had gone to a lot of trouble to make it nice but for us the noise issue was not condusive to a relaxing break so we wouldnt return .

Beautiful presented flat , in central location for all amenities, with lots of extra touches the personalised welcome pack was such a lovely thought as was the extras like dressing gowns , the owners had really gone the extra mile to make our stay really enjoyable.

The property was in a very good position for all amenities, with lovely walks in the area without using the car.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Flat in Barnard Castle.

The flat was in a great location with all the shops, pubs and restaurants within a very short walk. Parking in the public car park behind the property was fine and we never had any problems getting a space. Everything we needed was provided (including a welcome hamper) and the flat was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and had been fitted out really well. Barnard Castle is a lovely town too with lots of historic buildings, local walks and longer walks nearby. And don't forget the Bowes Museum which is fascinating. We had a couple of favourite places to eat out - The Three Horseshoes pub and Spice Island Indian Restaurant - both very good food and service. Thanks for a great stay and I'm sure we'll be returning.

Everything was perfect!

We enjoyed being right in town for walks and visiting the Bowes Museum. The owners were kind to leave a hamper for us to begin our stay. “The Flat” was immaculately clean and lovely to return to at the end of the day. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is likely to visit the area. Thank you for a lovely week!

Superb flat with everything you could want including a welcome pack.

It was so good to leave the car because restaurants etc were walking distance and we used the buses for everything apart from Beamish. I would recommend going via Darlington for Durham and Richmond was lovely.

We had a lovely 5 nights at the flat.

The owners provided a lovely welcome pack. The flat was very clean and lovely bed linen, towels and bath robes were very welcome. It felt very home from home. Lovely country side to explore and beautiful village. The flat is located in a fabulous market town with everything on the doorstep. We would recommend the flat to anyone.

The flat was absolutely lovely.

Clean, nice bathrooms, very comfortable beds. Everything looked new. Good wifi. It was in a charming old building in a very charming town. We will be back!

A lovely apartment in a central location in Barnard Castle.

Owners are very hospitable and generous in providing a nice welcome pack on arrival. Ideal location for walks along the Teesdale Way, shops or pubs / restaurants.

The accommodation was excellent.

Bowes Museum was literally around the corner within walking distance. We had a lovely Sunday roast dinner in The Old Well Inn 2mins away. There are a number of quirky pubs etc. We would love to return, but bring our little dog next time so we would have to book somewhere else unfortunately. Would definitely recommend The Flat, the owners were very informative and the welcome hamper was a nice touch too! 10/10

The flat is centrally located in the town and handy for all amenities.

On arrival everything was clean and the welcome pack meant we didn’t have to shop that evening. We had a great time and would consider staying there again.

Very clean. Very well equipped. Very easy to communicate with the owners.

The flat is absolutely excellent.

A bit misleading about 3 floors, one floor has just a shower room and another just the entrance with all main rooms being on one floor. Whoever does the laundry needs to be rewarded as the bedding was absolutely cleaner than clean. Very impressed. Everything you could want is provided in this property and owners go the extra mile to provide a welcome pack of milk bread tea bags coffee butter and jams, absolutely brilliant and really appreciated. Unfortunately during my stay, mid week someone moved into flat above and had tv and music on loud and an annoying barking dog. Our plans for lazy mornings were spoilt by workmen arriving at 8.15 working on path outside. Both of these things not the fault of the flat but unfortunately spoilt our stay. That said the flat is marvellous, clean and well equipped and superb location.

The flat in barnard castle is by far the best yet with sykes excellent value and the facilities are on the doorstep I highly recommend this property

The Flat is a great place to stay very central for everything my husband and I spent our wedding anniversary here and had a fantastic holiday.

The weather was also superb which was an added bonus. Would definitely stay here again.

An absolute gem.

An extremely well presented and appointed apartment in the perfect location.

The Flat is a lovely property, right in the heart of the market town.

On arrival we found the property to be spotlessly clean and a small welcome hamper had been provided, milk, butter, bread, jam, tea and coffee. The property was well furnished and extremely tidy, it looked like it had just been furnished and decorated. The location was excellent we walked directly from Barnard Castle, we hardly used our car. In the town we ate out every evening, the choice of restaurants and pubs serving food were fantastic and every meal we had was excellent. The owner had provided us with a paid parking ticket for the week, for the public car park at the rear of the property, we found this to be perfectly fine and when we did use the car we were able to park without any problem. On arrival and departure we parked directly outside the door in the market place. We had a really lovely holiday and would definitely consider re-booking.

We had a great weekend.

although we were delighted with the Flat ( a very high standard of property), we were disappointed with Barnard Castle and probably wouldn't stay there again.

Five star accommodation-we had a great holiday-would highly recommend the Flat to anyone.

Barnard Castle is a very busy town with a huge number of places to go out for coffee, lunch or evening meal.

There are many independent shops but it is also close to some beautiful countryside for those who don't want to spend the whole holiday shopping! The Yorkshire Dales, moors, Pennines and the east coast are all reasonably close with some beautiful places to visit and there are also beautiful places to visit in and around Barnard Castle itself without driving.

The owners were excellent at communicating and we enjoyed the hamper on arrival.

Having booked with Sykes last year we new what excellent service we were to expect, and we're not disappointed.

A great flat in a great location.

We enjoyed staying in the pleasant town and being able to walk to the shops, museum and the castle. There are lots of pleasant places for coffee and cakes it was fun going out for bacon and sausage baps from William Peat's Deli for breakfast, and we highly recommend lunches at the Bowes Museum and at Eggleston Hall Gardens. The bedrooms are very quiet, despite the central position and we are looking forward to a return visit in the near future.
