  • "Bracken Howe Lodge is a well appointed, comfortable holiday home in the middle of a beautiful woodland caravan park."

We were very pleased to find that the photos matched the reality and we had a lovely week's stay. The park is well situated for travelling to nearby attractions, such as Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay, Scarborough and Dalby Forest, but far enough away to feel a sense of peace and quiet. A few finishing touches might improve the lodge further (toilet roll holders would be handy and a blind for the front door - the children were a little scared to get up for the toilet in the night), but these are very small things. Thank you for our holiday, I have a feeling we will be back.

  • "There had been a couple of small issues which we reported to site manager Lisa, who responded immediately and provided excellent service in rectifying the issues."

Lovely lodge, fully kitted out with everything you could need. Lovely peaceful site, lots of birds & wildlife (saw hares, squirrels and even a deer). After long days out with lots of walking, it was lovely to come back to the hot tub. Only suggestion would be to cut back some of the overhanging branches as debris off the trees falls into the decking / outside furniture. Otherwise loved it. Thank you…

  • "This was our 3rd stay and we loved it."

Our only criticism is the early check out time. It feels very rushed having to get a family of four out by 10am and it makes the end of the holiday a little stressful. Even if this was extended to 10.30am, it would be helpful. Otherwise, this is one of our favourite places.

We found very few faults with the lodge and very much enjoyed our two nights there-we regretted not staying longer! The caravan park is lovely and quiet with plenty of wildlife and is well situated with Whitby and other places of interest /attractions only a short drive away. Would definitely recommend and stay again!

We didn't have hot water the first night, someone tried to fix it but couldn't, however we got the plumber there first thing and was all arranged and fixed no chasing. Excellent service I work in a similar industry and understand things break. Its how it is dealt with and this was 100% good. Loved the quality of the bedding utensils everything. Location stunning and the hot tub icing on the cake. Thank you hopeful we will be back soon.

  • "We had a wonderful stay at bracken howe."

We were pleasantly surprised at how modern and clean everything was. It also was a great touch having a cupboard with lots of kids toys and books, our two toddlers certainly enjoyed it. My only slight downside is the very late check in time and early check out. It does make it impossible to stay for only 1 night and even with us staying 2 nights it felt very rushed having to quickly have breakfast and tidy the lodge up ready for us to leave. But all in all, we loved it and would definitely stay again.

  • "We’ve had a fabulous week at Bracken Howe."

Lovely lodge, well equipped and great welcome basket. We all loved the hot tub! Lots to do in surrounding area. We did the Rail Trail and got steam train back ( easy downhill walk). Visited Whitby Abbey, Robin Hood’s Bay, Staithes and Runswick Bay ( great beach). We also did the escape Whitby Room – great laugh and lovely couple who run it – good for a rainy day. Great campsite and loved the woodland walk. Hopefully be back.

  • "A lovely weekend has been had at Bracken Howe Lodge !"

Great location for Goathland walks, RHB and a fabulous meal at The Postgate Inn (Egton Bridge), which we would highly recommend. The pack on arrival was a lovely touch with Yorkshire treats. The hot tub was great and relaxing after all the hiking. There were hiding places a plenty for the big kids (adults) we brought with us which gave us a lot of laughs.Chilled, fun, peaceful, relaxing weekend with great friends in lovely surroundings.

We found the lodge to be comfortable and well equipped and enjoyed the extra luxury of the hot tub after a long walk on New Years Day We were visited by the chickens but they were more interested in whether we had any food for them rather than us! All in all a lovely stay and we will definitely be back!

  • "Cleanliness was appalling, considering there was supposed to be extra cleaning due to vivid this was far from evident."

We did get a text to say we could get into the lodge 2 hours early than the 5PM normal time I just wish they had spent those 2 hours on cleaning the property. 1 crumbs left on worktop by toaster 2 crumbs and hair all over the floor in the kitchen area 3 old sock under the bed full of dust must of been there over a month 4 dirt dust and cobwebs behind every item of furniture 5 handmarks all over the coffee and dining table 6 half or 3/4 used soap dispensers left in bathroom and kitchen as part of covid i would expect either new bottles or none

No refund was given, this is not good customer service so I would warn everyone be careful when booking you take out insurance as Sykes will not provide a refund. I will not be using them again. On a positive note the lodge was fantastic and would go again if I could book it direct.

Perfect weather, sunshine every day. Have enjoyed every minute. And very happy with the lodge, no complaints. Been out exploring every day, so much to see on the doorstep – moors, the seaside, Whitby, the Abbey, Ruswarp. Made use of the hot tub every day. Would definitely recommend the lodge and look forward to coming back in the future. Many thanks!

  • "Overall the lodge was amazing and provided us with a lovely break away with the family."

Couple of negatives, the springs in the mattress on the mezzanine bed were broken and it slopped downwards making it quite uncomfortable and we couldn’t get the heated towel rail in the ensuite on the mezzanine to work. The lodge is fully stocked with cutlery, crockery etc. but that doesn’t leave any space in the kitchen cupboards to put the food we took with us so had to stack it up on the breakfast bar, hence leaving very little workspace. These were little issues which would not stop us from going back again if the price was right, we’ve looked for summer 2021 and prices are really expensive though.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Bracken Howe and that you have since decided to book a return visit. Thank you so much for alerting us to the problem with the bed. It was a broken slat in the bed itself. Both King Size beds and mattresses have been replaced with new ones. The cupboard with rotating shelves is intended for guests to store their food provisions and is usually left empty for this purpose. Everything else will fit into the other kitchen cupboards and drawers. The heated towel rails are fully functioning. Please do not hesitate to seek assistance from staff on site during your stay if you have any queries or difficulties. They will be very happy to help you Property Owner

  • "The booking process for Bracken Howe Lodge was very straightforward as was the payment process."

Information about our stay (e.g. check in and check out process, things to do) was sent out in advance and the site itself was very quick to respond to a direct question I asked them about whether you can get online groceries delivered to the site (you can by the way - you just need to meet the delivery van in the car par by the site entrance). The Ladycross site was very pleasant. It's nice and quiet and there is plenty of woodland in which you're free to roam. Bracken Howe Lodge was also lovely. It can be easy to quibble about lots of little things when writing reviews like this (e.g. it would have been nice if they'd provided this or that), but I don't think it's ever possible for the owners to think of every little thing to include in the lodge or to cater for absolutely everybody's tastes - all I can say is that overall both me and my family thought that this property was really good and we would recommend it.

Languishing in the hot tub was so relaxing - a proper de-stress from our busy jobs.
