  • "We had such a wonderful stay at Flittermouse Barn and can thoroughly recommend it to anyone."

    The standard of the accommodation is outstanding, both inside and out, with extra kind touches like a personalised note from the owners and a basket of goodies containing bread, cakes, milk, and orange juice waiting for us when we arrived. The location is beautiful, with wildlife all around but so peaceful and quiet yet so close to nearby amenities with Hornsea mere, village and beach very close by, and Tesco only 5 minutes drive away. We also loved visiting local stately homes, beaches, beautiful Beverley and Spurn Point, and there is helpful local tourist information available in the barn. It would be difficult to ask for more-a truly fantastic place to stay.

  • "Flittermouse barn was everything we wanted and more, it is absolutely beautiful."

    The location is very rural, and peaceful which is just what we wanted. It was lovely to be back in nature without the hustle and bustle of life. It felt very luxurious and the owners have thought of everything. We do think it is quite pricey but for a special occasion it is worth it. Thanks again for a beautiful stay!

  • "What a wonderful Barn in such beautiful surroundings."

    From the drive down the lane and our first view of the barn. To the Roe deer that came to see us off when leaving. The barn had everything you could want and the surrounding area is a delight. The outside area was lovely just to sit and watch the wildlife. So many birds, rabbits, squirrels and the roe deer which we were lucky to see on numerous occassions. There are lovely walks from the barn including the walled garden at Wassand Hall which we had to ourselves. Hornsea has a beautiful stretch of seafront with cafes and eating places. The walk up the prom is lovely and the views at the end beautiful. There are plenty of places to visit if you want or just sit and watch the scenery changing in the enclosed garden with a glass of something. The barn was so comfortable and Liz and Garry had thought of everything to make our stay special. The welcome basket was a delight and we enjoyed our suprise sweet treat in the ice box after unpacking on our first day. Thank you for a lovely break.

  • "Such a stunning barn in beautiful surroundings."

    We had a wonderful time here. Immaculately clean, comfortable beds, great shower and lovely personal touches, made our pre wedding stay even more special. We made the most of the lovely garden and outdoor garden room. Although the weather was mixed We made the most of the outdoor walks. Thank you to our hosts Liz and Garry, we hope to return very soon.   • "Superb accommodation with almost everything you could want for a peaceful relaxing holiday."

    The goodies provided on arrival were a real treat. The only disappointment was the heavy machinery very close to cottage starting up around 7.30 each morning, no chance of a lie in!! Don’t know if this was a short term problem since there was nothing but blissful peace and quiet when we stayed for week last December. All in all a super place to stay.

  • "Loved the location and grounds ."

    Some tlc required -especially on outside barbecue area as roof tiles missing and furniture getting wet in rain . Also garden needs some attention ie weeding . First impressions are great, but some things not quite right and let it down . Eg no toilet rolls, we found the mattress uncomfortable. Would have been helpful to have a bit more crockery eg pasta bowls, colander for draining. We found the barn dark inside especially the kitchen area..a bit more light would be helpful.

    I defy anyone to find a superior self-catering property than Flittermouse Barn.! It really is in a class of its own not only for its quiet location in amongst beautiful farmland but for its cleanliness and high standard of craftsmanship inside. The owners are the best too.! The welcome pack and fresh flowers were very much appreciated and the cheering log burner especially as the nights were cooler on this visit. Thank you so much. Flittermouse is a credit to you!

  • "We booked this firstly on the gallery photos, secondly it just looked and felt like the ideal place we needed for some R&R and it didn’t disappoint one bit."

    First afternoon arrived ( Storm Amy ) got ourselves sorted, lit the log fire, poured a couple of malt whiskey and relaxed in a beautifully appointed Barn conversion, thoughtfully and tastefully designed throughout. We also strolled around the Farm Estate, seeing a family of deer each morning outside the fabulous maintained garden. Cannot praise this enough, surpassed our expectations completely. The only thing to comment on would be the outside hot tub, it might be me, but looked like too much hassle to fire up, so we wondered how many couples did use it. Not a complaint just a thought, overall 10 out 10 and a return is already on the cards.

  • "Flittermouse barn is quite simply a stunning place to stay."

    When we saw it we were so excited to get inside and we were not disappointed. All rooms are beautifully decorated in a luxurious but practical style, very much 5 star accommodation. The underfloor heating took a bit of getting used to but because we had glorious weather it was warm enough for us. There is a log burner if you need more heat. It has a private and peaceful garden, log fired hot tub and a spacious gazebo. We didn't use the hot tub on this occasion but the owners are on hand to help you out if you do want to use it. The location is perfect because you're in the heart of the country, surrounded by fields and woodland, whilst also being close to the town of Hornsea, shops and the coast. We saw a family of deer in the mornings and could hear the owls "chatting to each other" at night. The only thing we couldn't find was a shaver socket (luckily we'd taken our own) although I think the owners will have probably sorted this by now. We hope to visit again in the not too distant future. A really special place!

The property

Flittermouse Barn is a two-hundred-year-old barn sited close to the Yorkshire coast on the edge of Hornsea, perfect for couples seeking a romantic getaway, offering exceptional interiors and a serene setting with an excellent private garden. The barn features open ceilings that reveal the timber structure, as well as exposed brickwork and polished concrete floors.

The outside space is equally special, including a large patio with sun loungers, a covered gazebo with a barbeque and comfy seating for the warmer months.

The enclosed garden has been professionally landscaped and planted. This stunning hideaway flanks Hornsea Mere, the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire.

Decorated and furnished in a calm yet luxurious style and set on one level, guests will not be disappointed as they enter the gorgeous open-plan living area; home to a well-equipped kitchen, dining area and comfortable sitting area with, Wi-Fi, TV and a wood burning stove - a fantastic place to relax and enjoy this peaceful location.

The spacious hallway leading to the bedroom houses two double wardrobes.The bedroom includes a king size bed, a wall-mounted Samsung 'frame' Smart television, and a vaulted ceiling.

The bathroom oozes character and charm, with a traditional cast iron bath and a separate shower enclosure. Located in the grounds of Weatherhill Farm with uninterrupted countryside views, the outside space in front of the barn truly is something special.

HORNSEA

Bridlington 15 miles.

The pretty seaside town of Hornsea lies on the East Coast, 15 miles south of Bridlington. This old Victorian resort has long, wide, safe sandy beaches and an attractive promenade with well-kept gardens, ideal for families. The bustling town centre has an old-fashioned feel with a good variety of small shops, pubs and cafes, whilst nearby Hornsea Mere is the largest natural lake in Yorkshire and offers sailing, fishing and boat trips. Hornsea Freeport is popular for shopping, whilst Bempton Cliffs RSPB reserve can be reached in just over half an hour's drive, offering one of the largest mainland puffin populations in Britain. Hornsea is near to Wassand Hall and walled gardens and provides a good base for touring the Yorkshire Wolds, the North York Moors and the East Riding coastal resorts. The historic city of York, Beverley with it's famous gothic minster and The Deep at Hull are within an easy drive.
