  • "Fabulous holiday and great house!"

We were a party of 5 so the room layout and bathrooms worked perfectly! There was so much we liked, like having 2 lounges so you could go and do your own thing or read or watch TV. The beds were comfy and bathrooms were sparkling clean. No issues with anything! We didn't know about the bin day but the bin men just came and took the rubbish away which was great! Lots of kitchen utensils and crockery etc. We would highly recommend and would definitely come back.

  • "Despite the excellent photos Laurel House was a lot darker than i’d imagined, especially on the ground floor."

There was a constant smell of damp which could be put down to the age of the property, but having mould growing up the wall in the kitchen and badly cleaned/repaired and damp patches in every ground floor room was not what I would have expected from a premium property. On arrival there was a strong smell of bleach which showed the place had been well cleaned, but the oven was filthy, how can this be missed. We didn’t use the oven due to this. All in all, not what we expected and the ground floor let the rest of the property down. 1st and 2nd floor were excellent by comparison.

  • "Just returned from a glorious week at Laurel house."

It’s a really beautiful home- very spacious for big groups over three levels with 2 large sitting rooms. It has a lovely large dining room too and an extremely well stocked kitchen. I had a wonderful view of the abbey from my bedroom. It’s close to shops cafes the harbour and beach but being tucked away was very quiet. We had lovely cafes, bread shop and a deli just a stones throw from the house. There is parking for two cars which is great for such a central location. We loved it so much we’re booking to come back next year!!!!

  • "The house is fantastic for a large family gathering - plenty of space to be together or spread out over the 2 sitting rooms."

Very comfortable and lots of plates, glasses, mugs etc. Would echo some of the previous comments re heating, loo roll & kitchen cleaning supplies but these are minor issues and did not take away from the enjoyment of our holiday. Parking out front for 2 cars and a public car park a couple of streets away for other cars. Watch out for the traffic wardens! Thank you for a great holiday.

Thank you for your brilliant review - we really appreciate your lovely comments. Thank you for letting us know re the heating / supplies - we have had a local plumber in to check the heating and he has reported everything is working okay, so hopefully any issues are now resolved. We will pass on the comments about loo roll and cleaning supplies to the local cleaning company we use and thank you for drawing this to our attention. Very best wishes. Property Owner

  • "Beautifully appointed property."

Comfortable beds. We had a very enjoyable winter break. Only two problems: 1. One of the duvets had some unpleasant-looking stains. 2. The central heating doesn't work properly so we were either too hot or freezing. However, these are issues which can easily be sorted and we'll definitely be coming back!

Thank you so much for your lovely review and constructive feedback - and we are so pleased to hear you will be returning! Apologies that one of the duvets was stained - we will report this to the local cleaning and laundry company we use. Re the central heating - we have had a local plumber in to check the system over and he has reported that all is working okay, so hopefully all issues are now resolved. Thanks again for taking the time to submit a review. Very best wishes. Property Owner

  • "Several existing problems with the property (eg heating timer gone) but we can add some."

It wasn't possible to get the downstairs warm without lighting both fires despite upstairs being warm. Poorly equipped with using items - only 2 dishwasher tablets so we had to wash up in the end; not enough toilet roll for each toilet; no dishcloth or towel in kitchen so we had to buy Jeyes cloths; no spare bin liners so had to buy some. This is irritating and comes across as petty. Kitchen also poorly equipped. There are lots of pots and pans but when you have a large property taking 6-8 people you need large items not just lots of them. There are no adequately large pots or saucepans (baking trays fine). I had to use 3 pots to make a single dish of fish stew for 6 people. We also couldn't do a stir fry as planned as only small/medium sized frying pans. The owners might want to try draining pasta or rice for 6-8 people in that undersized strainer! This is very poor - the owners haven't thought this through at all.

Hello there, Thank you for your helpful feedback - we were not aware that there was an issue with the heating timer so will arrange for this to be looked at (we have had a plumber out recently and thought the issue with the boiler/timer had been fully resolved). Thank you for letting us know about the situation with dishwasher supplies, toilet rolls and washing up items. We use a local cleaning and laundry company who leave out the welcome pack / toilet rolls etc as we do not live locally. The standing instruction to the cleaners is to leave sufficient supplies out for each booking, so we apologise that this did not happen for your visit and will chase this up with the cleaners. We want all our guests to feel comfortable, welcome and well-catered for at the property so are sorry that you felt otherwise. Your feedback on our kitchen equipment is also helpful and we will arrange for more pots and pans and strainers of a larger size to be available at the property when we next visit. Obviously we thought we had equipped the property thoughtfully and fully for our guests when we set everything up following our purchase and renovation of the house, but we are always happy to learn and improve our guests' experience, so thank you for taking the time to provide a full review and specific comments and thoughts. Best wishes. Property Owner

  • "Lovely accommodation; beautifully appointed and very well equipped."

The bed configuration wasn’t quite as we had requested but that was sorted very quickly. Very spacious house, perfectly suited for 6 of us as a group of friends. There was an issue with the timing of the heating (which the owner had warned us about) but with two large log burners we were fine, and the house very warm - even during Storm Arwen when even walking along the road was impossible. Great location for enjoying the whole of Whitby and its environs. We would certainly return.

  • "A great property for a large party."

Lots of space, really well equipped and good quality throughout. Two parking spaces and in a perfect location. Only one issue , the outside bin had not been emptied and was overflowing on our arrival. A real issue when you have 8 people for a week, this was a massive pain. Sykes answer regarding the next collection day was inaccurate. There are no recycling facilities in town either.

  • "A really good house for a group of eight and a dog."

Location brilliant, in the heart of Whitby with some great shops and bars just down the road. Parking for 2 cars, tight getting in and out but not a major problem. The only improvements would be a supply of bin bags, more robust trivets or kitchen surface protectors and the oven could do with a professional clean. But all in all, it was a great holiday and the house worked really well for us.

  • "The parking situation was not really made clear as we struggled to park 2 cars in the driveway."

If cars were parked on the road close to the gates it was impossible to get out and on two occasions we were blocked in for 4 hours plus. You could not park on the road as you needed permits. The trays in the oven had not been cleaned and full of fat/grease. There wasn’t any toilet roll in 2 of the bathrooms.

  • "Good central location."

When we arrived the garden area was a mess and untidy. However on our last day a gardener came to tidy it up and it looked better. Parking was very tight for our 2 x 4 wheel drive cars. No place for children to play.
