  • "Gorgeous flat couldn’t fault anything!"

So new and clean! Loved it can’t wait to come back. Loved watching the trains right outside the window and not noisy. Great garage space.

  • "The Engine Shed was a fantastic place to stay!"

The apartment lived up to everything you said. A perfect location and great fun to open the windows and be so close when the steam train came in. The apartment itself was perfect: absolutely spotlessly clean and with all the facilities you could need, though we didn’t cook or wash clothes! We would return there happily and have already recommended to friends.

  • "We (2 adults 2 kids) absolutely loved our stay."

Secure parking, easy walk into Whitby, steam trains arriving (to the kids' delight), everything you could need provided including jam, butter, milk and bread which was a blessing for the first morning. Also an easy walk to the local co-op. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay.

  • "The place itself is lovely and very comfortable."

It is also in a great location and has the bonus of parking. The only negative is that we felt it was a bit of a cheek asking for us to strip the beds and put the bedding into a wash bag - this is what you usually expect to be done for you and included in the cost. We have no issue with leaving the place tidy and putting out rubbish but the bedding part seemed a little cheeky.

  • "Well equipped apartment with great parking for one car."

Only negatives would say is no welcome pack at all and very very noisy from spot on 8am till 5pm with a constant hammering sound. When we asked what the noise was we were told they thought it was construction work from a nearby site. The comfort score is only due to this noise.

Hi, Unfortunately there is some demolition work ongoing at the local NHS hospital and it can be heard during the day time. Clearly this is completely out of our control and is due to complete by this April, it is unfortunate that it was taking place during your stay as in general the Engine Shed is a fairly quiet place to stay. Already booked it for next year. The welcome pack was very useful and the fresh flowers a lovely touch. Furniture and beds all very comfortable. Towels and linen lovely quality. Close to the town but very quiet apartments. Trains didnt really bother us, got used to them in no time. There was some decorating and work being carried out while we were there with some drilling, hammering and tools lying around but one the whole it didnt disturb us to much. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. Loved it.

  • "We were really pleased with the apartment."

It was stylish, clean and more spacious than we were expecting. The location was great and my children loved seeing the steam engine parked up outside. My only criticism is that the team didn’t make the bed in the second bedroom into twin beds, even though we have primary school aged children. This was listed as an option on the website and so I had assumed the beds would be twin. I would email to request twin beds if staying in future.

My son was obsessed with watching the steam train from the bedroom doors and now wants a train outside his room at home. The place was very well equipped and clean. The only downside for us was the beds being too firm but would stay again.

Very clean property with the added benefit of covered garage parking. Approx 3 steam trains per day pass by the window and stop directly opposite so you can watch the engineers prepare for the next journey which is really interesting. I can thoroughly recommend this property.

  • "These apartments are stunning!"

The attention to detail and quality of furnishings is of a very high standard. Flowers, milk and a welcome pack were waiting for our arrival, a lovely touch. Anyone who loves a train of any sort would find this an ideal place to stay. To have a steam train standing opposite your window is a lovely sight and sound. The Engine Shed apartments are centrally situated with FREE, SAFE under cover parking. Only a few minutes walk to the town and all Whitby has to offer. I have stayed in many self catering properties over the last 30 years or so, and can honestly say the Engine Shed apartments truly exceeded all my expectations of a self catering stay. Can highly recommend and will certainly return....

  • "The quality of the 'cottage' was great!"

4* hotel standard bedrooms & bathrooms. The accuracy of the detailed listing could be improved. More specific detail about what is and is not provided. The Covid19 preparation felt good, but you could insist that masks are worn in the corridors as there is no ventilation of those spaces. Also, there is an inconsistency over the need to strip the mattress protector on leaving - the email you sent said do, the sheet in the cottage said don't. The sofas look nice but are uncomfortable.

There was dust on the bedroom furniture & a lot of long dark hairs on the bathroom floors. We did get woken up each morning with trains as they pass right next to the window. None of this would stop us booking again though, we really enjoyed our stay & would recommend. The on-site parking was great.

Being close to the centre allowing you to explore on foot but also very quiet. The accommodation has been very well thought out and designed. Secure off road parking for 1 car, each appartment named after a steam engine. Warm, welcoming and comfortable. Fabulous super king beds. Well equipped kitchen and all you would expect from a home from home. Lovely welcome pack which also included bread, butter, selection of jams, Yorkshire tea, coffee and milk. Some flowers and delicious biscuits made in Whitby (We purchased several more packets!!!) Whether you are a steam train enthusiast or not, you cannot fail to be charmed by the daily visits by the steam engines. They are fabulous and literally, right outside the window (the trains do not disturb you, they only run at civilised hours!!) Whitby itself is a lovely town. Very well worth a visit. From the independent shops, cobbled lanes, 199 steps, churches, the Abbey, Dracula stories, the beaches, fossil hunting, boat trips and of course the fish and chips. If you've never been to Whitby, you really should go and stay at the Engine Shed, you won't regret it.

  • "Actually getting into the property at the start of the holiday was a little difficult."

Several guests arrived at the same time and a backlog occurred on the road. People were having difficulty accessing keys from the key safes. Once in the garage no one knew where to park...as each bay was numbered. Subsequently we realised the numbers were those of our apartments, however we had to park up before finding our apartment and discovering it’s number. This seemed to be stressing some of the more mature guests. It would therefore be easier if on the booking info you were told the number of your appartment. However although we parked in the wrong bay all week and no one bothered it would simplify arrival. The plush carpets throughout the building were fabulous....as walkers coming back in muddied up it meant we had to strip off outside and then access the garage to leave our wet muddy boots and over trousers, as we didn’t want to make a mess. We felt wooden flooring inside the foyer would have been more appropriate. But we loved the place and will definitely return.

  • "The Olton Hall is advertised as ground floor."

This is one of the main reasons I booked it as my elderly mother who has Alzheimer's cannot manage stairs. Actually it's not ground floor level. It is LOWER ground floor level. And there are stairs and no lift. My husband and I had to carry my mum down the stairs. We also met an other elderly couple on the stairs. And the gentleman was also struggling with the stairs. They said they also booked their accommodation because it stated ground floor level. This needs to be looked into. Having said all that. The accommodation, the car parking and location were brilliant. And I will definitely recommend it to anyone.

The apartments are superbly furnished and no aspect has been overlooked, and broadband in each apartment which is not shared is an added bonus. The railway theme is a perfect nod to the building's historic past, and helped by a few pictures and other railway items on the walls. The location is a no more few minutes walk from the town, bus station, restaurants and the harbour, so very convenient if you prefer to eat out. Secure car parking is a plus too. No hesitation in making a strong recommendation and am already planning a return visit. The trains are not intrusive either with no early morning or late evening arrivals.
