  • "Firstly I would like to start with the good points, the cottage is lovely, comfortable all mod cons and fairly clean on the surface, though feel it could do with a deeper clean, there was lots of cobwebs."

Description states there is a dishwasher, bit there isn't one, but that wasn't a problem for us. Also from reading previous reviews, where let's say minor problems been mentioned but still have not been rectified. My final point is the heating and hot water, so basically we had a 3 night stay, but ended up leaving on Sunday teatime due to it not working, so the only day it worked was Friday evening, it states there is a problem in the customer manual that is left. We could not have a shower and it was quite cool later at night. I did actually ring Sykes cottages to put a complaint in, was told it was owner managed cottage and would get in touch with them and ask them to make contact with us, we'll guess what we never heard anything from anyone. This is VERY bad management by all parties

Dear Sir/Madam, Firstly, please accept our sincere apologies that your stay did not meet expectations. We regret any inconvenience caused, and we are addressing the issues you raised. We will work with Sykes to promptly update the listing to reflect that there is no dishwasher, as you correctly noted. Regarding the heating and hot water, we were not informed by Sykes of any issues during your stay. The boiler sometimes loses pressure if the cottage has been vacant for a while. It has been inspected by three separate plumbers, each of whom confirmed there is no fault. The boiler was also recently serviced to ensure optimal function. In the welcome pack, there are detailed instructions on how to increase the boiler pressure if needed, which may be helpful in the future. Im surprised you didn’t find this with you being so thorough in reading through the literature. It was in the welcome pack thats left on the table. We appreciate your feedback and hope to improve the experience for our future guests. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. Best regards, Property Owner

  • "The location is brilliant and even in peak summer we found a parking space outside the property."

The kitchen and bathroom Are done to a decent spec however the cleanliness of the crockery was poor. We had to wash everything. As people who like to cook it was surprising to find only one sharp knife and sparse utensils. Also the listing stated a dishwasher and there wasn’t one. Overall it did the job but I felt it needs to feel homely and loved a bit more.

  • "We stayed for 3 nights and the location was ideal 10-15 mins walk into Whitby."

The cottage itself was clean and had everything we needed for our short stay . It had TV in both bedrooms which were great for the kids and beds were comfy. It also had a separate dressing room on the 1st floor which a nice surprise as it us some extra space with being a family of 5. Parking was an issue as you are very lucky to find a space on the main road. Things to be mindful of are that the bedrooms are over two floors and the stairs in the property are very steep. The main bedroom is in the attic and it was extremely hot with noisy seagulls throughout the night. We enjoyed our stay overall and we would stay again. The only negative was that the bin lid in the kitchen did not close which I’d read in another review therefore expected this to have been fixed.

  • "Our holiday was booked for three day and nights."

On arrival we found that the boiler was not working, as a result we had no hot water to wash and shower or heat from the radiators. The info pack included ‘how to’ fix the boiler, we tried this without success. There is obviously an error in the system, the owner needs to fix this. We endured the holiday without heat or washing or showering, this is not acceptable. We consider that financial compensation should be agreed for us and the owner should be made to fix this for the sake of future hires.

  • "A gem of a property, right in the middle of Whitby, on the quieter side of the river."

This property has been designed to a hight and tasteful standard. Spacious bedrooms, very comfortable firm beds (much more to my level of comfort) , a warm and welcome living area and a fantastic rainfall shower. The internet was superb, you could even retreat to 5 Ivy Yard and work there comfortable. Like all rentals you find some quirks, the only gripe we had was some of the light bulbs in one of the ceiling lights didn’t work, there weren’t any spare bin bags and an empty roll of foil left in the drawer. The property was very clean and tidy upon entering. I would say to the owner or cleaners, please double check cutlery and plates that guests have cleaned, there were some questionable ‘cleaned’ items but know this isn’t reflected on the owner or cleaners. There is no parking on the property, but on 3/4 of the road there is free parking on Church Street but it’s a free for all and very popular. We had no issues but at peak times it would be difficult. Further up, getting closer to Whitby there is 40 mins free parking restrictions or a small pay and display car park.

  • "Let's start with the positive as it was a good stay, location of the cottage is really good and only 20mins walk to the town."

The facilities in cottage was really good as you've got everything you need, beds are comfy, shower is good and WiFi was pretty quick at 25md download. Now the negative which starts at outside the property, the moss on the ground was slippy when wet and needs bringing up, the property next door is an eyesore. Inside the kitchen bin lid doesn't close and smell could disperse. Final point which was annoying and the check out, it was 09.50 and the cleaner was early waiting to get in, check out is 10am and they should arrive after that time allowing you to leave.

Excellent location and street parking was available. Only thing it stated was it had a dishwasher and it doesn’t. Will definitely stop here again.

  • "The cottage was as described and provided a very nice base for a holiday in whitby ."

There was no customer handbook so you had to work things out for yourself ie WiFi and heating . The main problem in Whitby is finding a parking space and the cost of it . Council sites charge £9 per day . The property is listed on several letting sites , some of which specifically mention the provision of parking scratch cards which enable free parking on specified zones and are frequently used by owners as they are a great way to enhance their letting prospects and only cost them £2 for any 4 days of parking . I was expecting a couple of scratch cards to be in the property , but they were not provided . I contacted Sykes who asked the owner for feedback which was not forthcoming . So please be quite sure that when you are booking this property that no parking assistance is provided .

It is clean and comfortable and has a modern bathroom and kitchen. Not much of a view from the property, Can just about see some boats on the river from the top bedroom window It is just five minutes walk beside the river to the centre of Whitby
