  • "We are a large group of friends who stayed for a long weekend and the property was lovely."

Excellent central location made it easy to get around Whitby. The property itself was clean and well furnished with a good kitchen, large dining room table that we could all sit together and nice relaxing sitting rooms. Good communication with the owners and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

  • "We had a fantastic stay."

The house was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The table was perfect for all of us sitting down for Christmas dinner - which was also helped by the heated hostess trolley keeping food warm! The bedrooms were big and beautifully laid out. The house is in a perfect situation with a view of the Abbey from the front door, It is a stones throw from the beach and the town and also there was a Church for midnight mass just at the end of the road! It was the perfect house, in the perfect place and we had a perfect Christmas, thank you!

Had everything we needed and very comfortable. Great location, short walk into the town and beach. We enjoyed a lovely return 6 mile walk to Sandsend along the beach., stopping off at a lovely cafe for coffee and cake . Host left us lovely Bothams of Whitby tea and biscuits to enjoy and was very efficient responding to emails. We had a great meal at Cosa Nostra (Italian ) and enjoyed take out fish and chips from the famous Magpie Restaurant .

Short stroll to the beach and to all attractions and amenities. This house is beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. The owners have thought of everything one might need for a multigenerational holiday. ( 2 lounges, large dining room, modern kitchen and updated bathrooms) We were a group of 11 aged 34-70 years. However, we would happily book this house and bring our grandchildren next time.

  • "Abbey Terrace was a great choice for our large family get together."

The property was very clean and well maintained. Ample space for everyone, with great bedrooms, bathrooms and social areas (large dining room, and 2 large living rooms). All the bed linen and towels were provided which was perfect. The location of the house meant only a short walk down to Whitby town centre. The 2 parking spaces at the back, and additional parking permits which were requested were great (They last 4 days from when you arrive) Really good value, and we all managed to get spaces near the house. We will definitely go back if we plan another family trip to Whitby.

It’s really spacious allowing our multi-generational family holiday enough room for all to enjoy the holidays. The property was nice and clean. We had a couple of minor issues during the stay, we had a really quick response and the issues were resolved. Our contact Linda was so helpful. It’s our second stay at the house as it’s a brilliant location - just a short stroll to sea or shops. The house is well equipped for cooking and is maintained really well.

  • "Overall we had a lovely stay and we would recommend renting this house for a holiday."

The house was very warm, clean, comfortable and in a brilliant location - what a great place Whitby is, along with surrounding countryside. The welcome bag of local biscuits and cake was much appreciated. Kitchen well equipped and it was great to have two dishwashers. Electricity tripped twice as we had been warned might happen, but it was not difficult to fix. Also door of bathroom between first and second floors was quite noisy to open and close. A small thing - the potato masher was not effective. Perhaps could have more recycling bins. Finally a comment about the back door key - one time two of us couldn't get in through the back door because the key was left in the lock. But when you take the key out of the lock and hang it on the wall it is the other side of the kitchen and not by the back door which is where it needs to be in the event of a fire. So perhaps move the key rack?

  • "We had a lovely extended family Christmas at Abbey Terrace."

The house was as described and as we knew there were a few levels we put the youngest at the top which they loved. The stairs to the top rooms were quite steep but no problem for us. Although there were 16 of us at one time we didn’t feel on top of each other as the house is spacious. The kitchen was very well equipped and we found cooking our Christmas lunch easy with all the pans etc provided. The big table was brilliant for us all to be seated together and the Christmas decorations were lovely. Nigel (the owner) was easy to contact and very helpful . The lovely cakes left for us were a lovely surprise too.

We are a family of 15 who were celebrating our daughters 50th birthday, the house was pretty central to everything the only drawback was the many flights of stairs & the lounge area up a floor from the kitchen , we put the younger members of the family at the top but the stairs to rooms 4,5& 6 proved challenging, we appreciate it’s the layout of the house

I'm sorry that you did not find your stay entirely satisfactory. We updated our photos at the beginning of the year to show some of the stairs to help give a feel of the layout. I hope your celebrations weren't impacted too much. Best wishes Property Owner

What a beautifully kept house and responsive, helpful owners. Lots of bathrooms so no one was on each others toes. We could all (14 of us) come together for meals and games and then comfortably have own space to chill as well. So close to everything, short walk for sea dips both mornings! The house had everything we needed and we were kindly offered permits for the extra parking spaces required (2 provided behind the house), the only downside to the area is finding a spot I would say and that can't be helped. Highly recommend staying here, thanks Nigel and Anna :)

Thoroughly enjoyed by all. Kitchen well stocked with enough space to cook for all. Enormous dining table so all can sit and eat comfortably. Two lounges upstairs meaning teens and parents can be separate in the evenings. All bedrooms very comfortable with nice linens. There are lots and lots of stairs. Location excellent - only a few steps from West Beach and lovely walk down to Sandsend along the beach. We were blessed with blue skies the entire week. All in all a great week.

From the moment you arrive you’re aware that you’re somewhere special. The large front door leads into a huge hallway which invites you in. Leading of this was the kitchen and dining room, both rooms large. The dining table is larger than some places that I’ve stayed in Whitby. We had a party of 12 and everyone was very impressed with the house and the rooms they stayed in. When we got ready to go out 12 people had baths or showers. I was the last one and the water was still hot! Hopefully won’t be too long before I return!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It’s lovely to have returning guests, especially when they look after the property so well, as clearly you do . Looking forward to hosting you again . Property Owner

We called the house keeper to report that the towel rail in the basement bathroom was not heating, but no action was taken to remedy this, which was disappointing. The sound proofing between the ground floor and the basement needs improving, as wooden floors amplify the noise. On the positive side, the house was spotlessly clean and felt safe. We appreciated the spacious dining-room with the welcome pack, as we did 3 years ago. The kitchen and dishwasher facilities are good for a large self-catering family, as is the availability of crockery and cutlery. On the whole, a positive experience in difficult circumstances.
