Fantastic place to spend time close to Whitby.

Quiet area to stay and only 25 minute walk to Whitby along the Cinder track if you don't want to use the car. Alternatively there were "Disc" parking clocks provided that enabled 3 hour free parking in selected side streets close to West Cliff. Would highly recommend.

We had a great stay at Buffers, the property was spotlessly clean and really well equipped.

Linda, was very helpful and left us some lovely treats for Christmas. We would definitely recommend a stay at Buffers and will be back.

We just love the position and facilities the property offers. We walked everyday visiting Whitby, Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay and Ravenscar. The house was warm, clean and has been thoughtfully decorated and equipped by the owner. We will be back! Grimley/Isted/Gibbs from Coventry.

What an absolute gem of a place!

Not only is the place of 5 star standard, it enables you to enjoy Whitby without the hassle of finding a parking spot at your accommodation. A lovely 20 minute walk takes you into town, regular buses are available to go to Scarborough etc. Wonderful to be able to do long distance walking from the property utilising the Cleveland Way. All in all, one of the best places I've ever stayed in.

The property was very clean and well-equipped. Everything was in good working order and the location was ideal for exploring Whitby with two young children via the traffic-free Cinder Track. The owner was very helpful and easy to contact both before and during our stay.

The only thing I would say about the property that there was to many clocks for my liking but this is only my thoughts { clock in bedroom which ticks} but every thing which was great.

We were comfortable, warm and in just the right spot for us to not be right in Whitby. Being next to the Cinder Path it was an easy walk in and a lovely cycle into Robin Hoods Bay in the other direction. The house was well equipped and communication with the owner was great. Thank you Linda.

Very clean. The biscuits and milk in the fridge on our arrival were very welcoming. I wished we could have figured out a way to walk into Whitby centre. (our fault not the cottage owners). We would stay again without a shadow of a doubt.

Buffers is the perfect holiday cottage in every respect.

It is extremely well equipped with taste and with a sense for practical needs. It is clean and comfortable and shows that the owner cares. Contact with the owner about the key collection details was a pleasant experience. Its position in the proximity of the impressive Larpool viaduct is an ideal starting place for exploring Whitby and the surrounding countryside. Whitby harbour and town centre are in walking distance (25-30 minutes) and a large supermarket ist only two kilometres away. Excellent!

We are just back from a lovely week staying at Buffers.

Communication with the host was great. The cottage is finished to a very high standard and even though the pictures make it look amazing, it looks even better in real life! The attention to detail by the host is outstanding and it is the most well equipped holiday home we have ever stayed in. We travelled as a family of 5 and our 3 children loved it. The welcome pack was a lovely touch. Thank you so much for such a wonderful week, despite the changeable weather! We would love to come back.

Lovely cottage, very comfortable and well equipped.

Great outdoor area with seating and room for the children to play. Cottage is in a very attractive setting and we enjoyed the walk down the cinder track into Whitby. The owner was very welcoming and the flowers plus tea and biscuits from the local bakery were very much appreciated. Would definitely recommend and would love to come back.

When we arrived the house was clean and warm and fully set up like a home from home (not just a holiday home) it was ideal for our party of teens and adults and was an excellent base for walking and exploring the other side of Whitby. We would definitely return and recommend to others.

Comfy beds and lovely bedding.Great views over the moors from the back bedroom windows and a view of the viaduct from the front.Parking areas could be marked with the house number as sometimes you have to park away from the house.

Excellent in all aspects

E xcellent accomodation,very short car journey to supermarkets.

Owner very helpfull with advice on opening key box and rang subsequently to confirm everything was ok.

We are two couples in the old fogey category.

We found the property perfect for us. It was exactly what we needed. Clean, tidy, comfortable, roomy and welcoming. The access to Larpool Viaduct was just a short walk up the hill and a walk down the hill to the River Esk is well worthy. The walk back up the hill was a bit difficult for one of us who has a heart problem but he took his time, rested twice and got up to The Buffers comfortably. We think that the property is perfect for reasonably active oldies and would suit families and other groups of all ages.

The property provides an excellent base to explore Whitby and surrounding areas.

The Cinder Track over the viaduct gave an easy level walk into Whitby town centre taking about 20minutes. Full marks for the bed in the front bedroom which was one of the most comfortable we have experienced. We visited in April 2023 so it was easy to park in the car park. No so sure how easy it would be in peak season. There are lots of fish and chip establishments in Whitby but we would strongly recommend Trenchers. Also if you fancy a hearty full breakfast Java cafe is the place to go.

Has everything we need for a relaxing holiday, away from the hustle and bustle but you can walk to to the beach in 20-30 minutes which is perfect for us.

Buffers is a really good location, easy access to shops and beach.

The house comes equipped with everything you are likely to need and the welcome pack is really kind, especially the pint of milk for a cup of tea and cake. We would definitely rebook if we plan to stay in the Whitby area again.

Absolutely couldn't fault Buffers.

We arrived home yesterday after a wonderful weeks stay here. Linda, the owner who I spoke to on the phone and messaging was really friendly and accommodating. The house had everything you could ask for. Spotlessly clean and comfy beds. Everything had been thought of from the lovely welcome bag and milk in the fridge to plenty of spare towels in the bathrooms. Beautiful location, would highly recommend gling to west cliff in whitby if you have children, the outdoor pool there was great. Also Goathland is a must to visit which is where heartbeat was filmed. Staithes and Saltburn by the sea is beautiful too. Thelwall along the viaduct into whitby is a must too. Its around a 20 min stroll from Buffers.

What a lovely place to stay, definitely a home away from home.

Owners have thought of everything. Ideal location, nice and quiet and not far to walk into Whitby (about 20 minutes) on the Cinder Track and 3 minute drive to Sainsburys or Aldi and pub (or 15 minute walk). Nearest takeaways are a drive into Whitby (6 minutes). Definitely a favourite of ours and we will be booking again in the future. Would highly recommend staying at Buffers!

Great property that had everything we needed for a wonderful family break - close to supermarket and 5 minute drive into Whitby.

We saw some amazing views from the bridge that is a 2 minute walk away - you can see Whitby harbour and the surrounding countryside. From the rear garden you get a nice view of the valley and trains coming past.

We had a great holiday with beautiful weather for November.

The house was ideally situated to visit many places on the east coast. We had lovely views from all the windows in the house. It was very clean and well equipped with lots of special touches like fresh tulips in November. Thanks for the welcome pack, it was much appreciated.

We had to cancel this holiday at the last minute in 2020 due to Covid.

We were offered a week in 2021 at no extra cost which was greatly appreciated. Lovely, comfortable house in a quiet location. Slightly remote but able to walk into Whitby along the cinder track.

It’s was amazing everything about the property was 5 star , great for family’s easy reach to Whitby so no need to take the car , the owner was outstanding too Clean and everything u need for a great holiday !

the house was very clean and comfortable, fully equipped with everything that was needed, home from home. Great place for the family as we had a young grandson with us and plenty of outdoor space for him to run around. The family would love to visit again in the future

This is the second time we have stayed in this cottage.

We find it very comfortable and ideally placed for getting around. It's not too far from town and bus route, and having designated parking is always a big plus for us. We have no desire to go out for the day to find that we cannot park anywhere near the property on our return! I have no doubt we will stay there again in the future.

The cleanliness of Buffers was superb, bearing in mind the extra cleaining/sanitizing due to Covid, the property was immaculate.

We felt very safe with all the extra safety measures that have been put in place by the owners. This property is very well presented with lovely comfy sofa's, a very well equipped kitchen (very necessary as restuarants and pubs not yet open due to covid restrictions) excellent beds and the bathroom has recently been refurbished to a very high standard. A lovely welcome pack was very appreciated.

We were delighted to find that Buffers was spotlessly clean and tidy and that it had every appliance etc that we could have wished for.

It was pleasant to be up high and out of the town, but equally it was good to be able to walk into Whitby via the old railway track. One external improvement that could be made is to have each property allocated a parking space by name and by spacing. we had no great difficulty but did find that spacing was not totally considerate and that a generous but lined parking slot would have been sensible and helpful.

Sykes initial position on possible Covid refunds in the event of holiday not being allowed by government rules (as discussed with your office) was disappointing but did improve once the government put pressure on you.

Cottage was really well equipped and the cinder track walk into town avoided all parking issues there.

The cottage is very well placed, being near enough to the town (Whitby) to walk in, or catch the bus.

The cottage was warm - we didn't have to have the heating on at all even though it was October. The bedrooms were of a good size and had plenty of storage, which is sometimes an issue in holiday cottages. In all, we were very comfortable and certainly hope to be able to visit again.

Was grateful for the bucket and spade loan and the ball and bbq were well used too!! We prefer our own bathroom when travelling with others but I would certainly book this property again despite the lack Of en-suite facilities. Lovely walk to Whitby which we did daily . Would recommend whole heartedly.

Property is lovely and cosy and very clean.

Location is excellent for walking into Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay along the cinder track which runs at the side of the property. Views are stunning from the property an it is lovely to sit out in the evening and watch the sun set over the hills.

Buffers is in a very convenient place.

Near Sainsbury's for food etc. Only a 5 minute drive to the Park and Ride car park. With a bus every 15 minutes to bus station. There wasn't a Guestbook and I left my complimentary comments on a small piece of paper. We like to read other people's comments and ideas for things to do and places to visit nearby.

The buffers holiday cottage is located near the river esk in Whitby.

The cottage offers wonderful views. The cottage is very well furnished and looked after and has everything you could need for a week away from home. There are lots of wildlife and wonderful walks to go on while you are there. Whitby is just a short walk away with lovely views and places to eat. The Duke of York in Whitby ford lovely foood as does the bridge Inn located in Ruswarp. I would highly recommend this lovely cottage.

This was our second stay at 'The Buffers'.

We enjoyed it so much last year that we decided to go back, hence we knew what to expect and it met our expectations!! We would definitely consider staying there again and have recommended it to family and friends.

Buffers was extremely well equipped with everything included in the price,towels,toilet rolls etc. Stunning views from the viaduct and only a short walk into Whitby. The only negative I have is that it is not very private around the back of the cottage,it could have done with fencing off to separate the gardens to ensure privacy. Linda,our host,was fantastic from start to finish,answering any questions that arose.

Having stayed in Whitby many times we knew the location well, the cottage itself was one of the best we have ever stayed in.

It was very well equipped with very good quality fixtures and fittings. It felt more like being in someones home than in a holiday cottage. Also the owners very kindly left us some welcoming treats as well as some essentials. We have stayed in many holiday cottages and this was certainly one of the very best.

Cottage was lovely, very quiet. Fully equipped with everything we required. We really enjoyed our time here, lovely area, masses to do, close enough to Whitby but very secluded. Close to river and railway with walks and wildlife but close to nightlife and eateries in town. Great.

It is a shame there are no recycling facilities
