  • “We know this area well, having stayed 'next door' the previous year, and we had another brilliant week in Whitby.”

Haven House is convenient;y located to walk into town, and there is - just! - parking for two cars. Haven House is convenient;y located to walk into town, and there is - just! - parking for two cars. Having read some of the feedback on cleanliness - and having an extra-vulnerable member of the family with us - we were a little concerned before arrival; however, we found nothing to worry about. We did bring our own wipes and just for peace of mind went over key 'touch' areas, but we had no concerns about the cleanliness of the house. There were five adults in our party, but we had plenty of room to spread out and do our own thing. The kitchen was well provisioned, and we appreciated the large oven and hob which enabled us to cook meals for everyone at once. We would happily return another year.

The property

Quietly situated close to the centre of Whitby is this attractive, modern, terrace townhouse.

With light and airy accommodation, it is ideal for family groups or friends wanting to explore this wonderful historic seaside port and the numerous local attractions.

Set over three floors, there is a bright and sunny sitting room and a well-equipped contemporary kitchen, with the dining table in the middle - where you can sit and linger over a meal, a lovely sociable space.

From here, there are glimpses of the upper harbour and the railway line, where steam trains pass regularly.

Three of the bedrooms are on the second floor, one a charming king-size double with an en-suite shower room and plenty of storage, whilst the fourth bedroom lies on the ground floor, with a large shower room next to it.

With a family bathroom too, guests are well catered for.

A small conservatory with an additional TV provides plenty of space to spread out.

Doors open from here onto a sheltered rear enclosed courtyard and decked patio, perfect for relaxing in the sunshine with a morning coffee.

A gate here leads into a children's playground, where the younger members of the party can play safely; sure to be a big hit!

There is off road parking at the property, a big bonus and a rare find in Whitby.

A few minutes' walk brings you into the hustle and bustle of Whitby centre, with some excellent restaurants, quaint tea rooms and interesting shops to browse.

Wind your way through the quirky narrow streets, go down to the pretty harbour and into the cobbled market place.

From here, you can work up an appetite by climbing the 199 steps up to the Abbey and the beautiful St. Mary's Church, with breathtaking views along the coastline.

This is part of the Cleveland Way trail, where you can enjoy exhilarating cliff top walks.

Children will be delighted with the long sandy beaches, perfect for building sandcastles and going on donkey rides, while the brightly coloured beach huts can be rented on a weekly basis.

The surrounding area has something for everyone, whether it's discovering the pretty fishing villages of Robin Hood's Bay and Staithes, a trip on the steam railway, or having a fun-filled day out at Flamingo Land.

A splendid base for a varied and memorable holiday.
