  • "Lovely property, great location, very comfortable but let down as the cleaners of the property did a terrible job."

There was crisps, chewing gum and dirt all over the floor. The cleaners need to do a better job. Glass shelf in bathroom needs removing as it is damaged, oven not working but owner did supply an air fryer and heating stopped working but was resolved by owner the same day. We would book again, hopefully cleaners get feedback and do a better job in the future.

  • "We have been visiting Whitby for the last twenty five years."

Staying in self catering cottages all over- I have never wrote a bad review. The cottage and our experience there, has made us never want to visit Whitby again. The place is a poor combination of being number ‘13’ (excuse my superstition) and being badly managed. The first night the boiler completely broke, the panel stated there was an error and we were left without heating in the middle of October for over 48 hours. We contacted Sykes and the owner, multiple times, and someone reluctantly took there time coming out to us, they offered no apology. The oven didn’t work the entire time we were there, maintenance didn’t bother fixing it, which meant we had to spend our money eating out every evening. They had a hoover in the property, which was shocking, really. Because it didn’t look like the place had been hoovered in many years. I don’t know if the cleaner is just short sighted? But the place felt like an advertisement for spec savers. We unblocked your hoover for you. We also deep cleaned your property, which we enjoyed doing on our first day on holiday. But I recommend you get a new hoover altogether, Henry never really picks up much, and you’d need an army of Henry’s to even begin tackling the amount of dog hair that is embedded in your carpets. The place was deeply disappointing, a let down to the other beautiful cottages on Henrietta street. It’s such a shame, hire some professional cleaners and give the place some TLC and you wouldn’t have had to of wasted your time reading this review. And I wouldn’t have had to of wasted mine, typing it.

  • "We have stayed at Henrietta about 3 years ago & it was excellent, this time was very different, we were very disappointed to say the least."

Here are my complaints/opportunities for improvement: -Outside area/yard had a strong smell of dog urine & had lots of flys. -A lot of dirtiness & cobwebs in all rooms -A lot of areas needs painting -Carpet needs cleaning -Bathroom dirty & mouldy -No complete set of crockery & placemats if four people staying -Wood flooring worn -Bedroom light damaged (This was the same three years ago) -Main bed uncomfortable & lumpy -No ignition (Lighter/matches) to use log burner The cottage in general is “run down” & needs a refresh & deep clean.

  • "We had such a wonderful stay at this lovely cottage in Whitby."

The property was clean, beautifully decorated, and had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing break. The kitchen was well-equipped, the living area was cosy and welcoming. The bed linen was beautiful and comfortable, our one issue was the mattress not being comfortable. The location couldn’t have been better: just a short stroll to the harbour, shops, and restaurants, yet tucked away enough to feel peaceful and private. We loved being able to explore both the town and the surrounding coastline without any hassle. Henrietta cottage is a very old property roughly 300 years old with many quirks that you get in such an old house yet it is clear that a lot of care and attention has gone into making the cottage special. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a perfect Whitby getaway. We’re already planning our next visit!

  • "The property needs a complete refurbishment."

The paint is coming off the walls, the flooring needs inspecting, broken and loose in places. Some lamps have failed or are failing, flickering on and off. The window in the main bedroom is cracked. The shower drips constantly and the towel dryer in the bathroom needs bleeding. There were dead spiders in the corners of the downstairs rooms and at least five very alive flies, The wheelie bin that dominates the small yard was the source of these. The dishwasher came as a nice surprise as it was not mentioned in the booking. The location was excellent and Sykes staff very helpful when we were struggling to work the tv.

  • "We stayed at Henrietta cottage 2."

5.25 for 3 nights over the bank holiday. Unfortunately the boiler wasn't working on our first night. So we had no heating or hot water. I reported the problem on the Friday night, it wasn't fixed until 5pm on the Saturday night. Over 24hrs in to our 3 day stay. So for one third of our holiday we were without a basic amenities. Im a runner so had to have a cold shower after my run. My teenage daughters didnt want to have a cold shower so went without. The cottage advertised that wood would be provided for the log burner but this wasnt the case. Its a shame because other than this issue the cottage is beautiful and the location is amazing. I picked this cottage as a special treat for myself and my girls. As a single mother who was just celebrating ending a period of being a mature student. Finances had been difficult and this really was a luxury break for us. I had looked at cheaper options but this cottage looked perfect for us so I was prepared to pay the extra money. I agreed with the conditions of the £150 good house keeping bond if we were to not leave the cottage in a satisfactory condition. I appreciate that these things happen, things will break and they can be out of the owners control. I also appreciate that maintenance services might not be available immediately. I held off writing my review, as I had hoped that the owners or Sykes would acknowledge my experience and offer a days rent back as compensation for being with out basic services for a third of our holiday, as this would have been expected of me had I not left the cottage in good condition. My advice if considering the property is - beautiful cottage, wonderful location.

  • "Gorgeous location."

Decor nice but needs some tlc. Paint peeling, light fitting broken etc. Terrestrial TV not working. Latch on the back gate rusted away - we fixed it while there, so that we could use it. Comfy place. Shower fabulous.

  • "A nice cottage in a good location, however there were hardly any Instructions for various appliances."

No information about recycling, TV not fully programmed, WiFi signal was weak, glass shelf above wash basin in bathroom was at a slant so not able to place items on it. No oven gloves, no log burner gloves and could do with a grab rail to get out of the deep bath.
