Description
Madelines View is a traditional, Grade II listed Fishermans cottage built 1735, with two-bedrooms and stunning harbour views situated in a great part of Whitby.
This three-storey dwelling is the perfect place to admire the stunning views towards Whitby Abbey and is sure to provide you with a splendid escape with friends and family.
Take over the kitchen in the open-plan living space, well-appointed with everything you need for the weekend, before gathering at the dining table and toasting to a much-needed getaway.
Spend your down time lounging on the sofa before whisking away to the first floor; on this level there is a double bedroom and a bathroom with a choice of bath and shower over.
Up another set of stairs leads to a twin bedroom, built into the eaves, providing a delightful choice for children.
Take a stroll through the cobbled streets and visit the iconic Whitby Abbey, a Grade I listed building, and the ruins of St. Hilda’s Abbey, both offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
Stop by the local shops and find traditional souvenirs or enjoy a bite to eat at the renowned Magpie Café, known for their famous fish ‘n’ chips.
Visitors can also explore the North Yorkshire Moors, where The Wainstones, Danby Beacon, the Mallyan Spout Waterfall, and the National Trust spot of Nunnington Hall await.
or travel to Scarborough and explore the ruins of Scarborough Castle and the sandy beach.

We’ve had an amazing holiday.
The view from the cottage is wonderful, across the harbour to the Abbey. We’ve really enjoyed watching the activity on the water and around. There’s been no noise from the arcades, just the benefit of hearing the seagulls and holiday noises. It was Whitby Regatta weekend so very busy but we still managed to park at the bottom of the steps to unload and with a little difficulty found parking spaces using the scratch cards. We had 2 vehicles, as we met our son there and were very grateful for 2 sets of parking cards for the full week. The cottage is very clean and comfortable and has everything needed for a great holiday.

This is our second stay at Madeline's View and we love it.
My elderly parents love to sit and watch all the activity from the beautiful harbour view. We picked the best week - a glorious Heatwave. We hope to come back again next year. Easy check in and check out and complimentary biscuits on arrival. Thank you for allowing us to make special memories here.

Madelines View is simply stunning.
Perfect location with incredible views, it was everything we'd wished for and more. The cottage is beautiful, very comfortable and with all the amenities you could need. I was a little worried beforehand about potential noise from the amusements below, but I needn't have been. There was no noise at all, and when inside the cottage you would not know they were there. In fact, there was no noise from anywhere. Just peace and quiet. We will definitely be back and I would recommend this cottage to anyone.

This cottage was absolutely STUNNING.

Perfectly located with everything we needed for a relaxing weekend away with friends.
The cottage was well equipped, comfy and despite the warnings about steep stairs and headspace in places we found it more than ok. The views were amazing, instructions about how to find it, where to park and where best to unload were all very clear and very useful. A cozy weekend despite the November grey & wind - the perfect retreat!
Had a great time in Whitby, second visit to Madeline's View and we thoroughly enjoyed it, I'd certainly recommend it.
Plenty to do in Whitby, short walk to beach, shops and restaurants, we'll be visiting again next year.

Quieter than anticipated (in a good way!). Parking was tricky but there was a festival on so Whitby was even busier than usual.

A Magical Seaside Escape – Perfect for Families!
Our South African family of four had the most unforgettable stay at Madeline’s View in Whitby. From the moment we arrived, we were enchanted by the charm of the cottage and the stunning surroundings. The cottage itself is a cosy and beautifully kept retreat, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The small touches and thoughtful care from the owners truly make it feel like a home away from home – warm, welcoming, and full of character. Our 7-year-old twins had a blast riding their body boards on the nearby sandy beach, and to top it off, we were lucky enough to watch dolphins playing in the swells just off the pier on several evenings – absolutely magical! We loved exploring Whitby and the surrounding area. A highlight (and a bit of a challenge!) was the steep walk back to the car park in Robin Hood’s Bay – Mum nearly didn’t make it, but it was worth every step! We also felt like pros with our crabbing skills at the bustling harbour, and the combination of history, stunning sunsets, and the vibrant seaside atmosphere made this trip truly special. We can’t recommend Madeline’s View highly enough. It’s the perfect base for creating lasting memories, and we left feeling completely refreshed and grateful for such a wonderful experience. We’re already dreaming of our next stay!

Dear Madelines View.
I booked last week for my parents to spend a week in Whitby. They had an amazing time. The cottage had everything they needed. It was warm and the view is spectacular. They loved eating breakfast watching people climb the 199 steps, boats coming in and out and people enjoyong the beach opposite. The beds were super comfy. Shower lovely hot water and powerful. If this cottage ever went on the market we would buy it as a forever home. We will definitely be back. Thank you for all the books and history of Whitby we loved looking at the old photos. The welcome folder was perfect and the Scratch cards for parking. Five stars for comfort & cleanliness and location. We made a superb choice. Really nice place, great location for the beech for my dog and pubs and wandering over to the Abbey.
House is lovely - great views, watched the boats come in and out and also took loads of photos of the sky above the abbey as it changed everyday depending on the weather. Kitchen has everything. Bathroom is nice and bed was really comfy. Was a superb stay.

I have stayed at the cottage before.
It is in a great location, views of the harbour from every window and 2 mins to the beach. I booked for 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year and found the cottage well equipped for a lengthy stay over the festive period. Will hopefully visit again.

We did enjoy our stay at Madeline’s View but we were a little disappointed by the exact location (above the noisy arcade) & wished we had maybe check that out more as we had never visited Whitby before.
Getting our bags from the car to the cottage was really tricky despite being fit for our age (65) Also we were unable to work the heating & we did feel cold indoors in the evenings.

A lovely cottage with great views over Whitby harbour.
A life saver having milk in the fridge as we forgot to pick some up on the way. Madeleine's view had everything we needed for a short stay. Would love to stay again but the only slight niggle is a 4.00pm arrival time, which I missed on booking.

Yet again an absolutely amazing stay at this cottage!
It’s like home from home! We went at a fantastic time of year as there was lots to do! The only snag I have is maybe we should have been made aware of the parking restrictions for our first 3 days as we had to pay to park in the long stay car park. Again not a problem but it is a little costly and we could have park there from our time of arrival! But other than that thank you again for an extra holiday in an absolutely beautiful cottage.

We were a little concerned when we pulled up outside the fun city arcade however once we turned up the stone steps and into Madeline’s we entered another world.
The flat was perfect and the only noise was seagulls. It would be helpful to leave the visitors information out as we didn’t find it until the last day. The flat is comfortable and well equipped. The views are amazing, we saw a harbour seal while eating at the table. Take your own binoculars if you enjoy bird wildlife watching. We did the railway to Pickering ( note no toilet at station, cafe at station served the worst coffee I ever had, wait till you are on the train). Also walked from Whitby to robin hoods bay, a big walk but fabulous views, we had a lovely 3 night break

Very happy with Madelines View.
Very cosy with everything there you might need, excellent location, all within walking distance and amazing views from every window. If there was a downside and I'm being picky, the parking, although we did manage to park outside to unload, it was a bit of a struggle to get in as it was really busy along the front, had to drive round a few times before we could park. After unloading there was a parking space up the top. The main bedroom mattress was quite hard, might be great for some, but not for us, we managed to put something underneath and it was only for a couple of nights not sure it would have been OK for a week. All in all had a lovely stay there and in Whitby.

Great location always wanted sea view to live. Every convenience(except small sharp knife). Comfortable beds/seating. Thank you for providing great place to stay. And quick response when I stupidly couldn't get my head around netflix log in)

Lovely, warm comfortable cottage with amazing views accross the harbour and out to sea.
Great location for walking to Sandsend on the beach (tide dependent!) or walking through the many hidden cobbled whitby streets.

It’s comfortable, clean and has everything you need. Including board games which we thought was great. The views from all windows are outstanding and it is central to everything. We enjoyed our stayed that much we have booked to come back in August!

The cottage exceeded expectations.
Great location, view of the harbour from lounge and both bedrooms. Comfortable and clean. Nice to have those extra little touches like milk, tea bags, washing up liquid and tea towels. Am a regular visitor to Whitby so will hope to book again.
