Having the school fields on the doorstep was amazing, as we had a 6 year old with us. She really enjoyed all the outside space. We did have trouble with the fridge freezer, it practically defrosted itself on our first night, then seemed to rectify itself. Bu the owner was very quick to respond to us. Also, a manual for the dishwasher would have been very handy. We didn't quite figure it out despite having an engineer in our party! All in all, we had a lovely holiday and would definately return.

The property is exceptionally well maintained to a very high standard. A short 15 minute walk to the harbour and all that Whitby has to offer. Our grandchildren loved the garden. The flower boarders were superb for all kinds of wildlife. We had chaffinches nesting in the bushes and an array of different butterflies, moths, birds and rabbits. We also had a gorgeous Magpie that visited us on a daily basis. We will definitely book this property again.

  • "This is a nice roomy cottage and everything worked well and it was well equipped with easy access and parking for 2 cars."

The location next to the Sixth Form college caused no issue and it was a simple 10 minute walk into town. There was one short steep bit on the way back, but that is not unusual for Whitby. Yes, as some reviewers have noted, the showers in the upstars bathrooms are not ideal due to sloping roofs/height restrictions but at least they have useable bathrooms. The shower in the downstairs bathroom as great and used by all. Overall a great place to stay to enjoy Whitby and we liked the views of the abbey.

  • "On arrival it was a little disappointing to find that cleaners were still cleaning the cottage (this was at 4pm) we only had to wait 10/15 mins but felt a lot longer when you want to start your holiday."

This cottage is relatively clean although after a few days it became apparent that it was surface clean. A few of the floors could do with a deep clean and we dropped an item that went under the couch and that could do with a clean too! We all used the en-suite shower downstairs as the upstairs ones were a little too tight to shower in although this wasn’t really an issue for us. The upstairs double bedroom would benefit from a chest of drawers and mirror and there is plenty space for this. All in all we enjoyed our holiday and this cottage is certainly an excellent base for Whitby town centre and surrounding areas.

The Barn was comfortable and within walking distance of Whitby. However I think the down stairs wet room needs some attention the silicone around the base of the toilet is quite offensive to look at it’s brown and stained Thinking this needs attention as it’s quite off putting. Hopefully this can be attended to in the near future. It’s a shame this has had to be reflected on the survey scores.

Had cause to contact the owner a couple of times who were very quick to respond and help us and went out of their way to make things comfortable. The cottage has 3 bathrooms, but only one has practical showering facilities, which was absolutely fine for our party of 6 adults. You just need to accept to share the shower between your party. The cottage was very clean and well looked after. Likewise the garden. The beds were comfortable. The adult family members using the upstairs en suite were disappointed that there was no shower over the bath, only a hand held spray. They came to the downstairs shower every day. Not as practical and time consuming. Two more flat baking trays of a larger size would have been useful. Luckily I had taken my own pizza trays and we used those for other things(lined with greaseproof) as there was only 1 small tray. Also a set of exactly 6 items of cutlery and plates isn't very practical for 6 people if you intend to use the dishwasher. Ended up washing up.

There was parking room for two cars. The property was clean, tidy and well-appointed. There was plenty of space in the lounge/diner and the three bedrooms were large. The internet access was good which pleased out two adult sons. The only negative point, was the small ensuite bathroom next to the upstairs bedroom which was tight for space with little headroom over the bath. We liked this holiday cottage and would stay again if returning to Whitby. (You can also add the following if you wish to:) The location was good with access through the secondary school to the old railway footpath just a couple of hundred yards away. The same distance away is a footpath to Whitby on the other side of the main road. The school was closed when we stayed, the whole site was quiet.

The cottage was situated in a perfect location being only a 5-10 minute walk into town. The area was very peaceful and quiet. The cottage was immaculately presented with all mod cons to make our time away from home a comfortable one. We initially had a problem with the oven but upon contacting the owner they rectified this in a swift and timely manner. My husband is disabled so the downstairs king sized ensuite room was absolutely perfect for all his needs. We had the added bonus of a lovely garden and we were lucky to enjoy some lovely sunny days which was great. Sainsbury's is less than a 5 minute drive away for all the necessities and there are other outlets nearby. As I said before, the town is a short distance away and is absolutely bustling. We will definately be staying here again. Thankyou

The house was lovely and warm and with plenty of hot water. Slight issue in that there were no hairdryers which I thought unusual for a 3 bedroom, 4* property that had every other mod con. We messaged the number on the info sheet but never received a reply which was disappointing. Also there were no instructions on how to work any of the appliances. I understand the lack of local info leaflets due to Covid restrictions but it would have been handy to have instructions for the dishwasher/ washing machine/ cooker. Apart from those two issues it was a lovely place to spend a holiday and we would seriously consider returning again due to the location, parking and overall comfort.

The bathrooms upstairs are a bit tight on head height but manageable if you shower sat in the bath. The only bug bear was there was only one toilet roll to each bathroom for our three night stay so it would have been nice to have a spare. The cottage had everything else we needed and the torch was a nice touch for when walking into town. There were also fresh flowers in a vase upon arrival which was also a lovely touch. I cleaned out the filter which was blocked with decaying food and grease. The dishwasher salt reservoir had no salt in just grey scummy water. I emptied this out too and filled it with fresh salt. After running the hot cycle through twice with no dishes it was clean and fit for use. Late on Monday evening the flushing mechanism in the downstairs en-suite would not stop flushing, this resulted in a very disturbed night's sleep. On Tuesday morning I left a message on Mrs Nobles voice mail. When she did not ring back I rang the Garden Center contact number where we had collected the keys. They said Mrs Nobles phone was not working but they did send some one round straight away. The flushing mechanism was fixed and we were given a replacement back door key as one of the two we had been issued with did not work properly. After 12 hours the flushing mechanism failed again and this time despite the late hour I rang Mr Noble as I was not prepared to have another sleepless night. Mr Noble could not fix the mechanism but temporarily turned off the water to the cistern. Wednesday morning Mr Noble rang to say a plumber would be with us between 11 am and 12 noon. The plumber came and fitted a new mechanism which took him about 45 mins. The upstairs bathrooms are quite cramped neither of us could stand up in the bath and I am only 5 foot 3 . Having said all this the situation of the cottage was very pleasant, as was the view of the Abbey. The cottage owners did respond as quick as they could to the problems we encountered. When we got home on Saturday there was an e-mail from Mrs Noble sent on the Tuesday morning acknowledging the fact the her mobile was not working and that she was sending someones to look at the toilet. Overall however I don't think we will be coming to Magpie cottage again.
