  • "Good week at the cottage despite the iffy weather, great walks from base."

We found a fridge full of sandwiches and fabulous huge jam and cream scones...so nice...a very tasty carrot cake and a basket full of other goodies, never had this much before, ever. The cottage was very clean, especially the oven and the bed was very soft and cosy, hard to get out in a morning. Our issue was not enough lighting in the living room if you wanted to read, dismal in the dinning room for eating. So oldi worldi ...

The owner Sam who lives next door gave us the best welcome gifts we have received in any holiday cottage in the UK. The cottage is clean, beautifully furnished and an ideal base for both sunny day walks and also wet days when we stayed inside to read and relax. • "Quoits cottage is exquisite."

We had a lovely time in this beautiful and idyllic cottage. Sam is a great host and she’s just next door. We were welcomed into the cottage with a selection of sandwiches and cakes, which is a lovely touch. Sam then greeted us once settled in and was very welcoming and friendly and gave the children some more cakes and paid an interest in the children, which they loved . Sam doesn’t bother you then for the rest of your holiday but you can contact her if needed but we didn’t need to because everything is so well maintained and thought out. The cottage is cleaned to a very high standard on arrival, The decor is lovely and the furniture comfortable and well maintained. The garden area is lovely to relax in and read a book or just listen to nature. Cottage Instructions are clear but not overbearing with do’s and Dont’s. The location of the cottage is very tranquil and quiet, the sheep wondering on the green outside is lovely to see each morning. The surrounding area is beautiful with the lovely Goathland just a 1 mile drive away. Quoits cottage is a great base if you are looking for a walking holiday around the beautiful countryside or if you just want a base to get to all the towns and attractions North Yorkshire offers. We would highly recommend Quoits cottage to couples, friends or families, this cottage would suit anybody, there is nothing not to like about it . It’s perfect and we hope to return again one day soon. Thank you again Sam!

We had a beautiful Welcome basket and an Afternoon Tea with homemade cake waiting for us. The cottage was comfortably furnished, the bed so comfy. It was equipped with everything you needed and there were thoughtful little notes around. The village had its own Quoits team, which played twice a week, on the green. We had sheep to wake us up and beautiful views to cheer our spirits. A beautiful cottage in a great location.

This was by far the best cottage we have ever stayed in. Sam, the owner is bext door if needed. She is lovely but we did not need to disturb her. Great location for walking. A lovely cake and scones along with tea and milk awaited us. Very much appreciated after a long journey. Be aware that sheep roam freely around the area and you may get an early morning wake up from them calling. The local quoits team appeared unexpectedly on Tuesday which was lovely. One of the team sat with us and explained the rules. Everyone in the area is friendly. The North Yorkshire Railway was a treat to ride along. The staff were knowledgeable and helped us with the baffling timetable. Birch hall inn is a treasure and chatting to the owners and locals gave us great options for walking. Walking from the cottage daily was great as we got to see local wildlife including deer. Downside is you need to travel to Pickering or Whitby if you are planning on getting food other than essentials. If you don't want to cook though, there are plenty of tea rooms, cafes and pubs to choose from. Highly recommend this gem.

We have previously been in March 2018 and seen winter in its log fired splendour, October 2018 for the autumn leaves. This time we went for the spring / summer flowers, leaves and fauna. The walking here is wonderful and dependent upon your needs can be serene or challenging. This time we did both and the views were breathtaking. The Quoits players played two nights which was entertaining. The fat lambs gave their mums the run around and were a joy to watch. Beautiful birds, butterflies and flowers. The sausage roll at the school house cafe at Grosmont and their coffee and scones was smashing. Val particularly enjoyed the steam trains there. The goodies that Sam put on for our arrival were really, really great. We couldn’t speak more highly of the owners, Sam and Andy, they are lovely, considerate people. The cottage is spotless, well equipped and comfortable. We sat in the sun on the garden seat watching the birds and bees a lot, the plants and trees smell lovely. Beck Hole is known as one of the most picturesque and idyllic hamlets in the whole of North Yorkshire.

It is situated in a wooded valley famous for its wild flowers and stunning scenery.

Named Quoits Cottage after the traditional game that is still played on the village green during the summer months, this quintessentially English property is ideally placed for exploring the spectacular surrounding scenery and the dramatic coastline of this superb area.

Deceptively spacious, with much charm and character, there is a generously-sized sitting room with French doors that can be thrown open wide in warmer weather, and a cosy woodburning stove to gather around on cooler evenings.

The separate dining room has the original stone and cast iron fireplace, now for aesthetic purposes only, and both rooms boast oak flooring and beamed ceilings.

Upstairs are two delightful bedrooms with painted timber floors, sloping ceilings and sumptuous beds with quality Egyptian cotton bedding to sink into.

The family bathroom has luxurious Fired Earth marble tiles.

The well-equipped kitchen leads into the rear terraced rockery garden with a small seating area on the top terrace, a very sheltered and private spot to sit and relax and enjoy the sunshine.

Warm and inviting throughout, this exceptional cottage is beautifully and tastefully furnished to the highest of standards, ensuring guests have a wonderful and comfortable stay.

Beck Hole is set within a deep tree-clad valley, with a few dwellings clustered around the village green and a small local inn of immense character serving real ales.

The area is a walker’s haven, with an excellent network of public footpaths shared by sheep that are free to wander the lanes and moorland.

Enjoy a walk to nearby Goathland, with the Mallyan Spout waterfall and the North York Moors Steam Railway, explore the woods or follow the beck as it winds its way through the valley to the next village of Grosmont.

A few minutes’ drive brings you to the historic seaside port of Whitby and its long sandy beaches, narrow cobbled streets and majestic Abbey perched high on the clifftop, reached by 199 ancient steps.

With quaint tea rooms, independent shops and a rich array of restaurants, cafes and renowned fish and chips, it offers something for everyone!

This superb cottage is surrounded by scenic beauty and sure to delight the most discerning guest.
