Excellent as always, looking forward to revisiting in 2027, think that says it all!

Sam is an excellent host and always makes us feel so welcome.

Quoits is a beautiful cottage really well equipped with everything you need to have a wonderful holiday.

Sam the owner always goes the extra mile to make you welcome and leaves lots of food goodies on your arrival which is really appreciated when you’ve had a long journey. We have stayed at Quoits 3 times now and would give it 10 out of 10 every time. It’s perfectly located for walkers and exploring North Yorkshire.

Absolutely wonderful cottage, we knew we would be rebooking as soon as we arrived.

Never had such an incredible welcome - tea, scones, sandwiches, cakes…. The list goes on. The cottage is immaculate and so idyllic. Heaven. Thank you!

Wonderful place to stay.

This was our 4th visit. Great access to lots of walks from the door step and a short drive to even more walks, visits, sights and beaches. The cottage is ideal to relax after the walks or in the evenings. It has everything you need and Sam made us feel very welcome. Definitely our happy place.

Our second visit and it was just as superb as before.

Welcome treats included homemade carrot cake, cream scones and sandwiches. The lovely owner, Sam, was most welcoming and was keen to ensure that our stay was most relaxing. The cottage was spotles and included everything you needed. Watched the game of Quoits outside the cottage (twice) on the green. Fabulous walks in the area with the seaside a short drive away. A return booked already for next July.

Quoits Cottage is beautiful and very comfortable.

The owner has made it all very welcoming and the sandwiches , cake and scones were a wonderful surprise and greatly appreciated after a long journey. We had a very relaxing week exploring the lovely area .

Great location with many walks straight from the cottage. Also fascinating to watch the game of quoits held on the village green. We were blessed with a heatwave but the inside of the cottage was cool. All contributed to a most relaxing stay. Would definitely recommend this cottage.

Quoits Cottage is a wonderful cosy cottage with all mod cons.

When you close your eyes and meditate and visualise heaven: this is it.

The old idyllic cottage, the quiet, the green trees in the distance, the sound of a steam train coming by. Being welcomed with cream tea, carrot cake and flowers was a lovely touch too.

This was our second visit to Quoits cottage and we will go back.

A beautiful setting. Very well equiped. Absolutely perfect. Sam is a wonderful host. She left us a cream tea in the fridge. A perfect welcome. Enjoy watching the local quoits teams play outside the cottage. Take time to sit on the moors. Watch the curlew, red kites and grouse. A wonderful place to wind down and recharge your batteries

We loved it from start to finish sheep on the front lawn what more could you ask for and walks to die for .

A wonderful cottage in a wonderful place.

From the moment we arrived, we loved Quoits Cottage.

It was so cosy and comfortable with the most amazing welcome we have ever had. And when we fell into bed, it was the most comfortable bed (and bedding we have slept in). The location on the North Yorkshire Moors National Park did not disappoint. We did beautiful walks nearby, popped up the road to see where Heartbeat was filmed. Even the sheep did not disappoint, they were very entertaining.. We star watched when the skies went black and listened to the dawn chorus in the mornings. Just loved it.

Very relaxing, welcoming and comfortable accommodation.

A remarkable cottage set in a beautiful valley hamlet within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

The cottage is set back from the road with its own parking space alongside. The green area in front is frequented with local roaming sheep. The cottage itself is furnished and maintained to a very high standard. On arrival, we had a lovely suprise of a selection of homemade treats. A very tasty homemade carrot cake, fresh cream scones and a selection of freshly cut sandwiches. It is an ideal location for visiting Whitby, Scarborough, York and for those who love steam trains, Goathland and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. We had a fabulous week and have already booked to return next July. Sam, you have provided a beautiful holiday let and are worthy of a further gold award from Sykes. Thank you so very much. Perfect cottage, beautifully clean, perfect location, perfect host, nothing more to be said!

We had a fantastic stay at Quoits Cottage.

It is clean and comfortable and we received a welcome package including an amazing home baked carrot cake. The heating system works really well so hot water is readily available without running the hot tap for ages. Just be careful upstairs because there are sloping ceilings with low beams.

Everything was perfect from arrival to include the best welcome gifts of scones, a beautifully baked cake, sandwiches and other essentials. We met Sam who welcomed us and explained the local area, which was perfect for beautiful walks and easy routes into places such as Whitby. The surrounding areas are beautiful and returning to the cottage after a full day out is just perfect. The lounge is cosy, the beds are so comfortable and it’s so peaceful. It’s lovely to have the sheep as an alarm call too!

Greeted with an amazing welcome pack - the best we've ever had. Situated in an ideal location, quiet and very peaceful, lots of local walks and convenient for the local holiday resorts on the coast. The cottage was spotlessly clean, with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing holiday. If needed, Sam the owner, was readily available to help. Would highly recommend this beautiful cottage and we will definitely be visiting again in the future.

We decided to return after a holiday in the cottage last year.

We had a wonderful week of walking, seaside visits and relaxing in the cottage. The delicious sandwiches, cake and milk were greatly appreciated after a long journey on arrival. We felt very looked after after and would highly recommend.

Lovely character cottage in a very unique location.

On arrival the cottage was very clean, warm & comfortable, with everything we required for our stay. The owner Sam had gone to great lengths to ensure our stay was special and left us some very nice treats - thank you. Beck Hole is very quiet & peaceful especially at night and it's handy having Whitby only a few miles away. There are plenty of walks on the doorstep. There is a pub & shop but they are very small & only open for a short while but are well worth a visit as they are also unique little places. Bear in mind that mobile reception in Beck Hole is non-existent until you get out of the very steep valley. We definitely hope to come again. Highly recommended!

Exceptional hosting by Sam, upon arrival we found a lovely platter of sandwiches, pork pie & cream scones along with a huge homemade carrot cake.

Everything was thought of for our comfort in this quaint picture perfect cottage. Plenty of nearby walks for all abilities, also a very warm welcome in the nearby pub birch hall. Would highly recommend a stay you won’t be disappointed

Caring and thoughtful owner. Cosy and comfortable cottage with exceptional hospitality who goes beyond expectations to ensure a happy stay. Setting peaceful and glorious but within a car ride to the coast. Excellent base with delightful walks locally. As a regular visitor , through all seasons, it has never failed to live up its high standard and the owner continues to replace and maintain as required to ensure a totally relaxing break in a well equipped and characterful cottage. Perfect .

Quoits cottage is a great place to stay on the North Yorks Moors.

Walks from the door, NYM Railway nearby. Comfortable, spacious, and generally well appointed (bathroom needs a shelf and dining room is very dark). Friendly owner who left a more than generous welcome package. Local pub, quaint, very friendly but closes at 7:30 pm, limited food and drink.

As always, cottage warm, clean and comfortable and in a perfect location, Sam the owner looks after us so well, afternoon tea on arrival is so welcome after a journey.

We very much enjoyed our stay Quoits cottage.

It is an excellent place to stay for both local walks and trips out. We were made to feel very welcome on arrival. Food, milk and treats were left for us on arrival which made it easy to wind down after a long drive. The cottage is spacious and well equipped to relax in. It was good to be able to park on the drive next to the house. It is a beautiful location and we would recommend the cottage as place to stay. Our son loved the quoits match on the green.

Amazing little gem of a cottage.

Never really stayed in a holiday cottage before as we usually camp but I think we have set the bar very high with our first stay. The welcome basket alone and fridge full of food on arrival was just above and beyond!

This beautiful cottage was as my 9 year old son said, " the best place in the world to be on holiday and I want to go back next year"!

The location was absolutely stunning with easy access to the gorgeous Goathland and steam trains out from there, as well as easy access to the main roads. We bumped into our host too, who as well as leaving an enormous and excellent welcome package (we didn't have to go foraging in the evening on arrival) was one of the loveliest and most helpful people you could hope to meet. Will definitely be looking to book again.

This is the 2nd time in 3yrs we have stayed at Quoits cottage and it just gets better, We had the most relaxing and peaceful holiday ever, The cottage was so clean and tidy and could not be bettered in any way, Our thanks to the owner for the hard work involved to make Quoits cottage an un forgettable holiday, well done.

This was such a fabulous cottage, set in a truly beautiful village.

We were blown away by the amazing treats left for us on our arrival, including a stunning homemade cake. To stay in such a wonderful cottage, within a few short steps of the original Stephenson railway line, and with a regular steam train still running, felt blessed. And the engagement / aftercare went above and beyond. Cannot recommend too highly. Brilliant!

!! Gorgeous cottage in a beautiful quiet hamlet with walks from the door. Lots of things to do in the area with Whitby and the coast within 20 minutes drive. Spotlessly clean, wonderful friendly welcome with owners on hand if required but with privacy once they knew we were ok. Tastefully decorated, very warm and homely with all amenities you could need. There are shops for the basics and also restaurants and cafes in Goathland a mile away but also other shops and fish and chips in Sleights which is only about 10 mins drive. I can fully understand why this holiday cottage has received well deserved awards. Thank you very much. We loved this holiday cottage.

This is the most wonderful cottage and we have such an amazing time staying here.

It really is peaceful, beautiful and the perfect base for a North Yorkshire Moors holiday.

The property was very well presented and one of the cleanest that we have ever stayed in.

There was a lovely welcome pack on arrival, plus a delicious cake. The only two slightly negatives were the king sized bed was uncomfortable (far too soft), and the house holder next door playing very loud music on the Sunday and Wednesday morning at 05:45, which I was forced to message the owner about.

Good week at the cottage despite the iffy weather, great walks from base.

We found a fridge full of sandwiches and fabulous huge jam and cream scones...so nice...a very tasty carrot cake and a basket full of other goodies, never had this much before, ever. The cottage was very clean, especially the oven and the bed was very soft and cosy, hard to get out in a morning. Our issue was not enough lighting in the living room if you wanted to read, dismal in the dinning room for eating. So oldi worldi ...

Previous guests have spoken of it and we have found it to be true ourselves.

The owner Sam who lives next door gave us the best welcome gifts we have received in any holiday cottage in the UK. The cottage is clean, beautifully furnished and an ideal base for both sunny day walks and also wet days when we stayed inside to read and relax. Excellent - no wonder the property is often fully booked well ahead.

The cottage has been kept to a very high standard by the owner, always exceptionally clean on arrival and is located in a beautiful area of the Yorkshire Moors.

Quoits cottage is exquisite.

We had a lovely time in this beautiful and idyllic cottage. Sam is a great host and she’s just next door. We were welcomed into the cottage with a selection of sandwiches and cakes, which is a lovely touch. Sam then greeted us once settled in and was very welcoming and friendly and gave the children some more cakes and paid an interest in the children, which they loved . Sam doesn’t bother you then for the rest of your holiday but you can contact her if needed but we didn’t need to because everything is so well maintained and thought out. The cottage is cleaned to a very high standard on arrival, The decor is lovely and the furniture comfortable and well maintained.The garden area is lovely to relax in and read a book or just listen to nature. Cottage Instructions are clear but not overbearing with do’s and Dont’s. The location of the cottage is very tranquil and quiet, the sheep wondering on the green outside is lovely to see each morning. The surrounding area is beautiful with the lovely Goathland just a 1 mile drive away. Quoits cottage is a great base if you are looking for a walking holiday around the beautiful countryside or if you just want a base to get to all the towns and attractions North Yorkshire offers. We would highly recommend Quoits cottage to couples, friends or families, this cottage would suit anybody, there is nothing not to like about it . It’s perfect and we hope to return again one day soon. Thank you again Sam!

Had a wonderful welcome to Quits Cottage, it is ideally placed to have a quiet restful holiday and to explore the area around Whitby and the North York Moors.

The proximity of the NYM Railway is a bonus for those interested in heritage rail, plus there is lots to explore in the area for walkers

Sam, the owner, was very friendly and apart from checking on us, left us alone.

We had a beautiful Welcome basket and an Afternoon Tea with homemade cake waiting for us. The cottage was comfortably furnished, the bed so comfy. It was equipped with everything you needed and there were thoughtful little notes around. The village had its own Quoits team, which played twice a week, on the green. We had sheep to wake us up and beautiful views to cheer our spirits. A beautiful cottage in a great location.

Because we are a bit elderly, we found that the upstairs was a bit chlostraphobic with the low beams , very nice welcome pack, sandwiches, cake,cream scones, basket with bread biscuits,plum loaf, much appreciated.

We had a wonderful relaxing stay from the minute we walked in the door to see the fabulous ‘welcome’ food. The cottage is clean, cosy and has everything you need. The owner, Sam, is friendly and on hand to help if you need anything. The surrounding area is stunning and the cottage has lots of leaflets with suggestions for walks and things to do. Sam, the owner, was very friendly and helpful, and her welcome treats, were amazing and very much appreciated. Brilliant location for walking and plenty to do in surrounding area. Would highly recommed to family and friends.

This was by far the best cottage we have ever stayed in. Sam, the owner is bext door if needed. She is lovely but we did not need to disturb her. Great location for walking. A lovely cake and scones along with tea and milk awaited us. Very much appreciated after a long journey. Be aware that sheep roam freely around the area and you may get an early morning wake up from them calling.The local quoits team appeared unexpectedly on Tuesday which was lovely. One of the team sat with us and explained the rules. Everyone in the area is friendly. The North Yorkshire Railway was a treat to ride along. The staff were knowledgeable and helped us with the baffling timetable. Birch hall inn is a treasure and chatting to the owners and locals gave us great options for walking. Walking from the cottage daily was great as we got to see local wildlife including deer. Downside is you need to travel to Pickering or Whitby if you are planning on getting food other than essentials. If you don't want to cook though, there are plenty of tea rooms, cafes and pubs to choose from. Highly recommend this gem.

Right from the start we felt welcomed by the messages and lovely eats provided, lots of which was home made. We had everything we needed and more. It was a lovely base to explore the surrounding area which was quite beautiful.

Fantastic stay at lovely, well-kept cottage.

Ideal village location, one of the cleanest and best kept cottages we have visited. Short walk or drive to Goathland and lots of walks on the doorstep. Added bonus of a fantastic host who left snacks for us on arrival (all fantastic) and even lovely extra thoughtful touches re our 3yr old who was staying with us. Thoroughly recommended and we will return.

The property and surrounding area offers comfort, relaxation and peace.

However, due to the property being situated deep in a Valley, there is no Mobile signal and can only be obtained once you travel higher up the roads.

Quoits Cottage is lovely and very well cared for, and very clean.

Sam's welcome hampers were delightful as always! It was even more welcome as the Birch Hall Inn was closed throughout so no chance of supper there! Beck Hole is a wonderful location, away from the crowds but with many lovely walks all around. In the absence of it's pub, we found The Inn on the Moor in nearby Goathland very welcoming and open all hours! We will certainly return to Quoits Cottage in the future.

This has been the most relaxing and peaceful holiday we have ever had, The cottage was so much nicer than the pictures portray, The sound of the birds echoed from early morning until night with sunshine until the last day, We had the most memorable holiday ever, Upon arrival we found the owner had done so much more than provide a lovely cottage for our stay, a large carrot cake, fresh jam and cream scones plus a selection of freshly made sandwiches so what more could you ask for after a long drive, and if that was a surprise then the freshly made sandwiches provided for our return journey was even more appreciated, Well done Sam for all your hard work and the extras provided, We look forward to going back for our second stay again next year,

Beautiful cottage in a perfect setting.

Spotless, and comfortable, home from home.

We have spent the week in a perfectly relaxing setting - wonderfully quiet and peaceful in a lovely village surrounded by beautiful countryside with walks to suite everyone, and plenty of picnic places.

Not far from Whitby or Pickering, drives over the North Yorks Moors with breath taking scenery. After the lockdowns what a wonderfully relaxing place to be and so safe. Quoits cottage is so safe and Sam the owner was so helpful and attentive nothing too much trouble. With an incredible welcome we almost felt like family - we loved it - from the Quoits gentlemen on Monday on the green, Tom Cruise on the railway and the lovely Darci the puppy!!! Can't wait to go back.

A wonderful welcome from Sam, the owner. Comfy bed, lovely sitting room and spacious kitchen and a super patio area in the sun for afternoon tea. We definitely have this on our list of places to come back to.

When we arrived, the owner had provided some really generous welcoming gifts and had also put up a fantastic decorated Christmas tree. We really couldn't have felt more welcomed and comfortable. The cottage had everything we needed. Everything had been scrupulously cleaned. We felt completely confident that in this most difficult Covid period of time, everything possible had been done to provide a safe place, and we enjoyed a completely relaxed 10 days. The owners had gone above and beyond in their care and attention. We have stayed in many cottages over the years, and Quoits Cottage is the tops!

Great area for a holiday

Had a fabulous break at the beautiful Quoits Cottage.

The sandwiches and cakes awaiting us on arrival were warmly received and just a couple of lovely highlights of our stay. The cottage had everything you could need and Sam the owner was available if we needed anything. With plenty of walks and beautiful scenery on your doorstep we we highly recommend a stay.

The owner of the cottage was extremely helpful and kind hearted whilst still respecting our privacy, we will definitely be returning in a couple of years time.

We have booked holidays with Sykes Cottages before so were confident we would be happy with Quoits Cottage nr Goathland in North Yorkshire ( we know the area quite well ).

Beautiful Moorland, Pretty Villages & Towns , Not far from the coast , plenty to see & do. Our first impression on approaching the cottage — it was situated in a lovely, peaceful spot ,it overlooked the village green & there was plenty of space to park the car. So far so good !! We then we unlocked the back door & were straight into the kitchen — Wow !! Beautifully decorated, spacious, light & airy,very clean with all the appliances that are required in today’s kitchen. In addition there was ‘A Welcome Gift’ - beautiful home made sponge, fresh cream scones, small cakes & a selection of sandwiches, even fresh milk in the fridge. What A Welcome !!! The rest of Quoits Cottage didn’t disappoint - gorgeous lounge with a comfortable suite, log- burner, large tv & wi-fi. - separate dining room - two good sized bedrooms - reasonable sized bathroom with shower into bath The cottage was beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean , a delight to stay in !! Sam, the owner is a lovely lady .She lives next door but is never intrusive but so welcoming and helpful when needed. We booked another cottage holiday with Sykes a couple of months ago ,for early 2020. However we want to return to Quoits Cottage in the not too distant future. A super holiday cottage in a picture-perfect location.

We enjoyed lots of activities in the area and the proximity of the steam train and welcoming local pub were real bonuses. Many thanks to our superb host for her friendly welcome and attention to detail, assuring us a wonderful holiday.

The area is very quiet, peaceful and a lovely location. There are plenty of walks from the door. The variety of birds including Woodpeckers in the garden was a bonus. It is a beautiful cottage, the owner could not be more welcoming, never have we stayed anywhere where we were welcomed With a variety of homemade cakes and sandwiches including cream scones! Hope to return soon.

This was our third visit to Quoits.

We have previously been in March 2018 and seen winter in its log fired splendour, October 2018 for the autumn leaves. This time we went for the spring / summer flowers, leaves and fauna. The walking here is wonderful and dependent upon your needs can be serene or challenging. This time we did both and the views were breathtaking. The Quoits players played two nights which was entertaining. The fat lambs gave their mums the run around and were a joy to watch. Beautiful birds, butterflies and flowers. The sausage roll at the school house cafe at Grosmont and their coffee and scones was smashing. Val particularly enjoyed the steam trains there. The goodies that Sam put on for our arrival were really, really great. We couldn’t speak more highly of the owners, Sam and Andy, they are lovely, considerate people. The cottage is spotless, well equipped and comfortable. We sat in the sun on the garden seat watching the birds and bees a lot, the plants and trees smell lovely. Again a lovely week, thankyou Sam and Andy.

It was great to arrive for our booking at Quoits Cottage to find that it not only met, but exceeded our expectations.

It is an idyllic location and the cottage was beautifully presented, with a great deal of effort put in to making us welcome. We booked again within hours of returning home, which says it all!

This is without doubt one of the best holiday experiences we have had.

It is the first time we have stayed in a cottage and Quoits cottage does not disappoint it is set in Beckhole a small hamlet just a few cottages and a pub The birch hall inn yet not to difficult to visit Whitby or the NYMR at pickering its only 46 minuets to york and Castle Howard well worth a day out recommended. There is plenty of places to eat out in Goathland 5 minuets away or use the local butcher at Slieghts and eat in the cottage which is well appointed. Samantha the owner has the cottage next door, she was brilliant from local knowledge to days out she was very helpful and the welcome pack she left for us on our arrival was just perfect and so thoughtful. We will be booking again for us it is perfect.

This cottage has them all!! It was the extra touches given by the owner that made you feel realy welcome and "at home". Also the way the whole booking system works to make it a problem free holiday. We would return in a flash.

She provided a 5* welcome making sure everything was comfortable for us. We were blessed with good weather and able to walk every day. The car was not used until the day we left. The location of the cottage was very tranquil and we were privileged to see a quoits game outside the cottage. You could not fail to enjoy a stay at this beautiful cottage.

The cottage was clean, well equipped and just right for relaxing. The goodies on arrival where scrumptious [many thanks Sam] Even the neighbours we met were all very friendly. If im to be picky....the small area for evening sunset and drinks is very small and up steps [ older may struggle] and had overgrown a tad. overall thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Geoff & Trish

The area was excellent for walking with the moors on your doorstep and towns within easy reach should you need them. The Cottage was extremely comfortable and the owner Sam had added some very welcoming touches. We were also introduced to the game of Quoits which is played on the green in front of the cottage. The whole holiday was totally amazing, the cottage exceeded all expectations,and Sam the host was so welcoming.

The sandwiches,cakes and sweeties waiting for us was a lovely surprise and was delicious . It's no wonder Quoits cottage won Yorkshire cottage of the year 2017 the attention to detail ,the cleanliness,everything was superb and Sam and husband Andy were lovely .Will certainly return .

The standard of the accommodation and the welcome from the owners is outstanding. Sam is fully deserving of her ‘Best in Yorkshire ‘ award. The quoits match outside the window that gives the cottage its name just added to the feeling of belonging in this small community. Wonderful moorland walks right on the doorstep cater for all levels of fitness while curlews and lapwings rise from the heather around you. It’s like stepping back to a nicer place in time.

Outstanding cottage with high quality facilities, comfortable king size bed, bedding and towels.

The cottage is very comfortable , cosy but well able to deal with four persons. Owner Sam, exceptionally thoughtful and provided additional touches such as afternoon tea and cakes on arrival and milk in the fridge. The setting is ideal for walks but open to travelling wider afield like Robin Hood’s Bay. Some beautiful walks without the need of the car. In walking distance of the NYMR steam railway Outstanding countryside setting quiet welcoming which leaves you with a real feel good factor and sense of tranquility. A gem of a cottage run by a Yorkshire treasure, Sam!

Amazing hospitality; gorgeous cakes and chocolates. The owner ensured we had everything we needed and more and was so friendly and helpful. We were able to go on lovely walks right from the doorstep and the cottage was beautiful. We have already booked to visit again! Fabulous.

The owner of the property was exceptional in making us welcome after a long journey.

An unexpected lovely Yorkshire tea of sandwiches, home-cakes and a large chocolate cake, as well as homemade chocolates awaited us. Very thoughtful! We would also like to say what a wonderful "hidden location" Beck Hole is for walking and exploring the area generally.

The location was lovely.

Sam the owner went out of her way to make you feel very welcome. The cottage was lovely very clean and comfortable with everything you needed. There were cakes and sandwiches waiting for us on arrival as well as tea, milk and coffee.
