  • "Just had a long weekend with friends at Shoreview, met all our expectations."

Excellent property in a great location. If I had to be really picky the WIFI signal strength was poor even after logging in, but that did not spoil the weekend at all.

The house is clearly finished to a high standard. It was just the 2 of us staying for the 4 nights, and although we didn’t need all the space, we booked it based on the photos and the location, and we certainly wasn't disappointed. Sandsend has always been a favorite location for us, and this property put the icing on the cake. We look forward to returning again in the future.

The property is not clean and 2 pairs of dirty underwear were found in 1 wardrobe. The oven was dirty. The downstairs shower room and toilet smelled and the others were grubby. The location is stunning and the only issue with the holiday was the property. It is always an issue when you are asked to not put problems in the guest book. By our stay the book had been removed. • "We have very mixed emotions regarding Shore View."

It is in a great position with fabulous sea views and has been created with a lot of thought given to the decor and high end fittings. However, the same consideration has not been given to the cleaning and maintenance of the property. It was dirty, with thick black dust in the crockery cupboard, the top of the fridge/freezer, even on the poles on the kitchen wall holding the hooks for the mugs. All the drawers had crumbs in them, there were food stains/marks on the kitchen walls and on the window shutters by the sink. The backsplash to the range oven was greasy and there is food baked on to the shelves inside the oven. The surface of the outside table was dirty, with cigarette butts left under it and in a rusty can. A deep clean is required in each shower cubicle, where there is a build up of dirt. The freezer needs defrosting. The paintwork is in need of a refresh in some areas and the handles on the wardrobes in the double and single bedded rooms need tightening up. A chest of drawers in the double room would have been useful. With hindsight, I should have contacted Yorkshire cottages to advise them, but I didn't realise the extent of the problem until I started cleaning and then I continued with further family members due to arrive expecting a meal to be served. We will return again to Sandsend, which is in an excellent position, being a quieter place with a lovely beach and several places to eat out, but only a mile to walk into Whitby. However, we will not be staying at Shore View.

  • "We loved our stay at Shore View."

The location, sea views from all windows and layout and decor of the property all made for an extremely pleasant stay and we will certainly consider returning for our stay next year. Owner Feedback: Whilst the sofas were comfortable enough the occasional chairs both downstairs and in the living room were incredibly uncomfortable. You don't need to go to the expense of new chairs but the seat cushions need replacing as a priority. It's like siting on wood making it near on impossible for us to sit and enjoy the view or gather as a family when it was raining and blowing a gale outside. The paintwork is also in need of a touch up and is looking very tired and battered in places. Finally the glasses need reviewing. Many are chipped and there are only 4 tumblers left meaning constant washing up to ensure glasses and crockery on hand. Also we couldn't get the fire to work. Think the control needed new batteries but it meant the living room was cold and the chairs were hard which was disappointing given its such a lovely property. We appreciate its hard to keep on top when it's so popular, but to book a day out over the low season to attend to everything would help keep the property in 5* condition and warrant the premium rental.

Lovely and warm when we arrived and there was a very good welcome pack waiting for us. The house was spotlessly clean with a well equipped kitchen. Lovely comfortable beds and excellent shower rooms. The living room was a good area to relax with a welcoming gas fire and large TV….although we didn’t watch it too much as the views from this house are amazing and we found ourselves just kicking back and gazing out over the sea after our days out sightseeing. The Hart Inn is just a 5 minute walk and we had a delicious meal there one night. We had a superb breakfast on our last morning at the cafe which is literally at the bottom of the road. Ideally placed for days out in the wonderful county of North Yorkshire, with regular busses into Whitby. You can’t better this holiday home. We will return.

The problems were; smoke alarm beeping, kettle not working and gas fire ignition. An engineer was despatched immediately to the smoke alarm. Then someone brought us the spare kettle from the office, on her way home. A gas engineer came out the following morning and sorted the fire . • "Shoreview is a lovely cottage in a stunning location."

We have already booked a return stay. The beds were comfortable with pristine linen. Lovely sitting room with a very good tv. All the rooms had stunning views out over the beach and headland. The kitchen was well equipped and cosy. You can walk to the nearest pub (The Hart) in 5 minutes which we did twice and had an evening meal there which was delicious. We had breakfast on our last morning at the cafe just across the road. That to was really good. The location is great for trips out to Whitby, Goathland and Scarborough. There were just a few minor niggles. The cutlery drawer was missed by all 6 of us and we had to ring the contact number to be told about the “secret drawer” not a good thing when dinner was getting cold! Mark the drawer CUTLERY. There was a very wobbly dining chair that my husband fixed, this should have been noticed and attended to before we arrived. Also the smell of damp was overpowering in the master ensuite when we arrived, it slowly disappeared as we used the room but wasn’t pleasant. It hasn’t put us off but would have if it had continued. The cottage was also very cold on arrival. Would have been nice to walked into a warm cottage. That said, Shoreview has the wow factor and we can’t wait to return.

The "Welcoming pack" was appreciated and a thoughtful touch. The location was superb with the Cafe just across the road and the fabulous beach beyond. We had never been to the Yorkshire coast before and were amazed at the length of sandy beach facilitating the ability to walk to Whitby along the coastline. Two supermarkets were within easy reach by car. The property was very pristine , beautifully clean and comfortably furnished. The car port was somewhat restricted but that wasn't a significant problem. During our stay there was a problem with a smoke detector, which started to bleep in the early hours of the morning, but I later contacted the relevant people and this problem was resolved quickly and efficiently. If I were to offer any criticism, it would be that the stuffing of the pillows, through washing, had broken up and it felt like resting the head on soft tennis balls, but aside from that, we loved the property, location and thoroughly enjoyed the holiday. We would love to return next summer!

We liked the sea views from every window, the parking, the beach and cafe just across the road. The beds were really comfortable each with an en suite and we enjoyed sitting in the lounge of an evening taking in a beautiful sea view. A few little negatives: the radiator in the master bedroom was permanently piping hot and wouldn't turn off: the handset for the TV in the kitchen did not work well and we had to listen to the cricket on the radio. The issues are really niggles and not hard to resolve that would then make this a perfect place. The cleaning leaves a little to be desired, downstairs shower was dirty, floors needed mopping properly and the upstairs main bathroom has a serious blockage and very bad smell. Also the kitchen chairs as already previously mentioned by previous feedback are not in the best condition and one is actually broken, luckily my wife did not fall off it as could have been quite dangerous.! The furniture is terribly uncomfortable and very low to the floor. The top floor twin bedroom is Not suitable for adults as the staircase takes a chunk out of the room area, so the bed legs have been taken off. In all three bathrooms the tops of radiators were black never been cleaned found that out when I draped a towel over the top and the cleaners do not take care when cleaning the wash basins the over flow is dirty. Some of the kitchen crockery was chipped we left them on the bottom shelf to highlight this. The freezer had some food left it and had not been defrosted for some time. No oven gloves were in the kitchen ??. This may seem like we are picky but we all have lovely homes and do not pay for something less or we may as well stay at home. We only book luxury homes so that is what they should be. As for the welcome pack!! Well no we don’t understand why a bottle for milk can’t be left in the fridge, it also said in the house book to please removed any stains on the furniture well that’s not been done in a long time so obviously not recently refurbished!! Photographs of houses should be updated ever few months so as not to give a false impression. I do think the owners of the property should check on the cleaning and kitchen crockery etc to make sure there are enough of everything for 6 people.

  • "The property has been fitted out to a high standard, but unfortunately this was marred by the simple lack of someone checking it over to make sure all was in order before our arrival."

To list some of the faults that we encountered: 1. on arrival, we found that 5 of the 8 downlighters in the kitchen had failed, meaning that I immediately had to go out and buy replacement bulbs so that we could see to eat. 2. the toilet seat in the master en-suite is loose, and slides to the side. 3. one shower had been left dripping, meaning that the bathmat (left in the shower) was soaking wet. 4. when I tried to dry the bathmat, I found that the tumble-dryer was not working because the condensed water tank was full and the fluff filter was blocked. So I had to spend precious holiday time carrying out basic maintenance on the dryer. 5. the gas fire does not work because the battery in the remote is flat, and it has no other controls. 6. one dining chair was missing. The replacement that was provided 2 days later was tatty and out of keeping with the property. 7. the towel rail radiators would appear to need bleeding, since they all have cold areas towards the top; also the one on the 1st floor drips at the valve. One point for the future safety of guests, especially the elderly or infirm, is that the shower bases are rather slippery. It would be a good idea to provide a non-slip finish and install grab handles. Also it would be a good idea if the bathroom vents had shutters, because the north wind whistles through them at present, making the bathrooms chilly. Finally, to describe the property as having a "small courtyard garden" is an exaggeration. It is merely a path about 1.5 metres long with a few flagstones at the side. No way can that be called a "garden"!

The house is in a great location, only 1 minute from a really nice cafe which is open until around 16:00 every day for good coffees and excellent cakes and scones. Parking at the house is good, with one space under the carport and on street parking available right outside. Inside, the house has everything you could need for a self catering break. the kitchen equipment is first class, with everything you need to cook throughout your stay. The three bedrooms are great and all have lovely views out across the bay - the beds are comfortable and the bed linen was lovely. having 3 en-suite shower rooms is a definite advantage and the showers are really excellent with lots of hot water and good water pressure! The utility room is really well equipped with a good washing machine and tumble dryer, as well as iron and ironing board should you need them. The lounge is great and with a couple of nice armchairs its easy to watch the day and the shipping go by out across the bay - perfect way to spend lazy days. This is one of the nicest holiday rentals i've used, and its something i do quite a lot with my wife and our family, so we have plenty of places to compare with. • "The beautiful cottage was sparklingly clean on arrival with every home comfort we could wish for."

The equipment and decor is top quality, combined with amazing location with sea views from every room in the house this cottage makes for an amazing, relaxing holiday. We will definitely return - not something we often do! We enjoyed fabulous walks on the Cleveland Way straight from the cottage. It was great to have a car free holiday. Fabulous meal at Bridge Cottage Bistro, definitely recommend but remember to book!

About the location

SANDSEND

Whitby 2.5 miles.

Lying on Yorkshire's spectacular Heritage Coastline, Sandsend is the ideal place for a family holiday with its award winning, wide sweeping beaches, rock pools and dramatic cliffs. Indeed this part of the coastline is known locally as the Dinosaur Coast because of the many fossils found here. Children will enjoy damming the little beck where it crosses the beach to form a freshwater lagoon - great (and safe) for paddling and boating! For the more energetic the village sits on the lovely long distance Cleveland Way Trail, which offers great off-road cycling along the disused coastal railway as well as breathtaking clifftop walks. The National Trust now own the nearby headland, Sandsend Ness, where there is a delightful nature trail in the old quarry pits. A special place offering something for everyone!

Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi included. Note: There is underfloor heating throughout.
