  • "Property amazing, very clean and catered for."

Definitely would stay here again or one of the other rooms. The communication from Sykes I rate poor, I tried to return their call to update on my daughters doctors appointment, even email asking for an acknowledgment to which I never received. Upon arrival I call the house keeper of the accommodation and she was unaware that we were still coming as yet again Sykes had not contacted her with an update to if we were still going from the outcome of our daughters doctors appointment. This was booked through hotels.com and for some reason Sykes got involved. Also I was given two different check in and check out times, turns out we could have checked in 2 hours earlier. Bad communication between Sykes and hotels.com on the timing part too.

  • "We loved our stay, everything was excellent, luxury flat, bonus been able to check-in early, nice touch with the welcome pack."

Secure private parking is a real plus given Whitby's parking situation. The Engine Sheds are only a few minutes walk into the centre of Whitby, very handy for anyone with mobility issues. We have stayed before and will again, would highly recommend. Minor issues the pillows were hard ( obviously personal taste) & no chopping boards for food preparation.

  • "The Engine Shed is a superb complex, right from arriving at the secure undercover parking, entering the Nigel Gresley apartment and leaving at the end, all is brilliant."

The apartment was spacious, very well equipped, and was really comfortable. The daily trains did not disturb us and the steam trains were an added attraction. Can fully recommend this complex and the off street, undercover, secure parking, so close to the town centre, is an added bonus. We'll be back.

  • "The apartment was lovely, clean, modern, well designed."

Very cold inside but that is the nature of the building, did need heating on every night.Very good welcome pack.Mattress rather firm and sheets ride off the bed easily, pillows far too thick and overstuffed for comfort but we are all different, others might like them. Indoor parking not made clear in original booking description and would have been problem if we all had tall vehciles, plus roof creaks when vehicles moving above you a little alarming.Fire evacuation details a worry if you are trapped in apartment as only one exit, only option to open doors for fresh air. Great faciltiy however and couldn't be more conveniently positioned in town centre and view of abbey and harbour from window. The Police need to address the local boy racers with noisey car exhausts who meet in carpark opposite the station, I don't object to them gathering but the constant in and out and around town and back and revving engines is like being trapped in a jam jar with an annoying fly, the sound reverberates around the harbour and town being at the botttom of the hills and the locals must be fed up with it as it goes on past midnight every night, these exhaust are illegal and just sorting them out would solve problem.

  • "Can't fault this lovely apartment."

Spotlessly clean, spacious, huge comfy beds, well equipped kitchen. We went as 2 couples and found the living, dining, kitchen a sociable space with plenty of room and good sized table for meals and playing games, and we had a bathroom each. The trains didn't bother us at all, we found the apartment very quiet. We were pleased to have designated, secure parking when we saw how busy Whitby was. Check in and out was simple. The apartment is only a short stroll to the harbour. Very large fluffy towels are provided and hairdryers and also a small welcome pack with bread, milk, butter and jams, biscuits and a stick of Whitby rock. We had a lovely weekend and would definitely stay here again.

On this occasion the owner entered the property after I had checked in, to drop off the welcome pack. While I appreciated the gesture, I think the pack should be there before check in time and if not, a phone call to advise when they are calling.

  • "The accommodation was excellent."

The only downside was the lack of ventilation in the bedrooms. In order to ensure good airflow at night it was necessary to have the doors open. The ventilation would have been better by having some form of vent or rather than having doors, windows could have been fitted inside the existing bars.

  • "What a fabulous little find."

The whole experience was fabulous. After initially being told we might have to wait up to 5pm to gain access (due to covid cleaning measures) we were called by a lovely lady at 1.30pm to say everything was ready for us. The apartments have covered and secure parking and access to the apartment is gained through a security coded door directly from the carpark. Once inside the apartment we were delighted with what we found, 2 spacious double sized bedrooms (one ensuite and the other with a bathroom directly opposite). An open plan living area that had a sparkling clean fully equipped kitchen, dinning table and a very comfy and spacious L shaped sofa. Initially we were a little concerned about the fact the train line runs within inches of the windows but the stylish double glazed doors mean that the rumbling of the infrequent trains is actually a welcome noise and you were almost disappointed that they didn't run more often! Overall I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this apartment as a place to stay if you are visiting the area and it would be suitable for a family of four to have a break or 2 couples

Only slight niggles was that cupboards in kitchen area quite high up, so not good for small people like us. We also had slight problems with key safe, not always managed to close this securely when going out, but apart from those things had a really nice holiday and would definitely return.

Our son is a complete train geek and we couldn’t have been any closer to the train action and being in the centre of Whitby with views of the Abbey was perfect. The apartment was very comfortable from the beds to the sofa in the lounge and had everything we could need. Lovely touches like the welcome bag and even fresh flowers on the table were much appreciated. There were even ice packs in the freezer to use if you took a picnic out with you. Being right in the centre of Whitby was great and even better that we had private, secure parking. We took our two grandsons and they loved it when the trains went rumbling past! If i was to say just one small thing that would be useful (and it is only a suggestion not a complaint!) would be some sort of shelving in the bathroom to put toiletries etc, or a rack in the shower rather than having to put everything on the floor. aside from that we couldn't fault anything and would definitely recommend the Engine shed to anyone else.

Perfectly situated in Whitby, only 5 minute walk and your on the seafront. A designated parking spot in a garage was a bonus as parking in Whitby can be a nightmare. The apartment was extremely well equipped, lovely welcome pack and everything you could think of for cooking. The noise from the train was minimal, my 9 month old baby slept through it all. High quality travel cot (with extra mattress) and high chair available although they were not left in our apartment and we had to go and find them. My only suggestion to the owners would be some sort of blind or curtain in the living room as first thing in the morning it is impossible to sit on the sofa as the sun shines right into your eyes.
