  • "Lovely place to stay."

Very comfortable and loved the log burner. We were hoovered let down with the state of the oven. So dirty we were unable to cook, resulting in increased costs eating out. Needs a deep clean or even replacing. Otherwise, it's a really nice place.

Thank you for taking the time to review, I really appreciate it, and other guests will benefit. I am so sorry to see your report on the oven, I will notify the cleaner to action this straight away. It is a shame you did not complain to Yorkshire Coastal Cottages and we could have arranged a clean whilst you were there. Hope you still had a lovely stay Kate Property Owner

Thank you Joanne for feedback. Access to cottages off Church street tricky but you are allowed to stop to load. Sorry you didn’t find cottage comfortable. It is small to get all big furniture. Hope you had lovely stay Kate Property Owner

. However only little details all in all a lovely place to stay and would book again Thank you xx

Hi Thank you for taking the time to feedback. Apologies there should have been a welcome pack, I have contacted the agent as they usually notify Whitby hampers of all bookings. I usually have enough logs there for the winter, but I also have to carry them up myself, it’s tricky. Yorkshire trading usually have fire logs. Glad you had a good stay. Kate Property Owner

  • "The Nook is a tight fit for five adults and their belongings and provisions for three days ."

You have to get on well together! But, on that condition, I thoroughly recommend this charming tiny house situated in a yard behind a historic pub off one of Whitby's most iconic streets. The price of its proximity to the harbour, the Abbey and the coastal clifftop walk is a daily trip to the car park to top up your ticket. Well worth it in my own opinion. We loved it - thank you very much for putting us up!

Thank for taking time to feedback. So glad you had a lovely stay. Kate PS A tip for parking is to use the RingGo app and you can top parking up from your phone. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was a delight to stay in, and despite the cold, very windy December weather outside, it was always lovely and warm inside."

The kitchen had everything needed for self-catering and the owner had made it very festive, with lights and electric candles, etc. The beds were very comfortable and everywhere was lovely and clean. For me it was home from home, and its position in the town allowed for a pleasant walk and exploration of all on offer in the shops and pubs. etc. I would not, however, recommend the pub/hotel nearby, for they were overly expensive and put very little on the plate. So, all in all, the cottage is to be most certainly recommended.

So glad you had a good stay. Thank you so much for the feedback. Wishing you a very happy New Year. Kate Property Owner

Nearby parking was a bit of a challenge but you can see why as Whitby is lovely so is very popular. By day 2 we had sussed it out and the parking ticket is transferrable between pay and display car parks. The cottage itself was clean, well maintained and decorated with all the facilities needed. The log burner was a plus with plenty of kindling just needed to top up with paper and more logs as they burn quickly Would definately stay again during the winter to be able to fully appreciate the cosy cottage.

Fantastically located albeit with some steep steps unsuitable for the elderly. Welcome pack was a lovely, much appreciated touch. Had a problem with the boiler which was speedily rectified by the Sykes team. A new hoover needed as the floors were quite dusty, try moving the furniture to access all areas! Would happily stop again.

The only tiny detail which wouldn't matter to most hirers was , I was using the upper bunk bed and climbing over the quite high rails was a feat for a 58yr old, fairly fit woman. A gap where the ladder is would have made it easier.

  • "We have stayed many times in Whitby and so knew exactly where this beautiful little cottage resided."

It was perfect! You exit the cottage and are thrust right into the hub-bub of the old town and very close to Tate Hill ('Pirate Treasure') beach the steps and Abbey where there is free parking until 1st March. We unloaded our luggage as close to the cottage as possible, relayed it in and drove up to park, soaking in the air and beautiful views as we walked back down. The ability to park at a residence is rare this side of town but definitely worth the faff. If you want space and parking at your front door, look to the outskirts of Whitby, most likely on the West Side where properties aren't so old or full of character. Once inside the cottage you could not hear the sound of the town (or surprisingly the seagulls for that matter!). There was the noise of upstairs moving around, but, again, an expectation with these ancient properties. I had noticed previous feedback questioning whether it was big enough for a larger family but, as a family that regularly camps, I knew it would be no problem for us. I can safely say that as a family of 5, it was actually bigger than expected despite the quaint name of "The Nook".... just a swift removal of some of the more delicate ornaments on arrival, out of reach of little fingers, and we were safe to enjoy our time. The kitchen has everything! We even spotted a whisk, slow cooker weighing scales and cocktail shaker! The kitchen was perfect for morning pancakes, smoked kippers from Fortunes and various evening fish pies and stews. It was also an opportunity to teach the kids how to wash up after themselves. The boys absolutely loved the bunk beds and continued to play 'Pirates' throughout our stay whilst my 7 year old daughter enjoyed the novelty of a grown-up bedroom upstairs to herself. All bedrooms had comfortable mattresses and were beautifully decorated. The lounge/diner decor beautifully suited the age of the cottage and the area's history perfectly. I loved how many of the trinkets had come from local shops, supporting the local trade. I was even inspired to buy my own scented diffuser oil, pots and stool whilst staying. I also loved the wine glasses and was thrilled to find them in the discount store on the West Side! My husband enjoyed the range of TV channels, including the opportunity to record the late night Superbowl (which I also appreciated as it meant he was not too tired to help parent the next day ;) ) We loved the wood burning fire after our chilly days out which really kicked out some heat, as well as the family dinner table where we ate meals and played lots of games, including Dominowes and Connect 4 which were found in the cottage. The patio (rare for this side of town) was also an added bonus for playing, sitting in and taking little shoes off before entering the property. The rainforest shower was incredible and the baths deep, hot and relaxing. The owner has clearly thought carefully how each space can be used to its full potential. There was one moment when we lost heat. The fancy boiler told us that the radiators needed bleeding (something I'd happily do in my own home) but a quick call to Sykes and a plumber was round in half an hour. All was promptly sorted and our holiday was not disrupted in any way. My only disappointment, having not visited Whitby for 6 years now, was that Scarborough Borough Council still does not recycle in this area of the East side - no problem for us as we simply took it all home to recycle in a giant bag but I'm sure there are many people staying who would be happy to do so. I mention this purely as a wider council/tourist issue, knowing full well that this is beyond the owner's control. As a full time working family we arrived exhausted and desperate to recuperate. Our week at The Nook was the perfect get-away and we have come home having bonded and fully recharged. Thank you Kate!

Thank you so much I really appreciate your effort in leaving such detailed feedback. Kate Property Owner

  • "This property was fine for us as a couple but cannot see how 6 people could fit in."

Upstairs bedroom was very small and draughty with next to no storage space. Bunk bedroom was very dark as bushes had grown all over the window. We used the front bedroom but had to hang our clothes up in the bunk bedroom as this was the only bedroom that had a wardrobe. There was also a lot of noise from the flat above as there didn't appear to be any sound deadening between The Nook and this property

Thank you for your feedback. I am so sorry you did not have a good experience during your stay. It is a small cottage, I hope people can see from the photographs coat hangers on hooks in the double bedrooms as well as drawers. There is a wardrobe only in the bunk room. Unfortunately there is no way to increase storage. The facility to have the bunk room for families helps, rather than turning it into just a dressing room, I hope people will consider when booking how they want to share a small cottage. It is not often booked by 6 people, it has been for short breaks and had positive feedback, some people seem to just like it being central and cosy. I tend to overlap my stay with my sons family of two small children and it is a squeeze but fun. I hope your experience would not put you off from staying again, the agent and I are always keen to help guests stay be a good one. Kind regards Kate Property Owner

It is ideally placed just of Church Street with a lovely little patio area to sit and enjoy the evening sun. The place itself is very cosy. I particularly loved the quirky decor which feels like home and not a holiday rental. It is very well equipped with everything we needed and the downstairs double bed was very comfy. The log burner was a great addition to what was a great relaxing weekend. There was a lovely welcome of cake, biscuits, tea and milk. I will definitely return.

Thank you so much, I am glad you enjoyed your stay. I am slowly trying to make updates that are in keeping with the cottage. My family and I do use the cottage and think of it as home, so I am happy you feel the love. Wishing you all the best, and hope you get to visit again. Kate Property Owner

  • "Right in the centre of church street, a great location with an outdoor area that gets afternoon sun and is perfect for escaping the crowds."

Car access not easy with lots of bags so travel light and buy food provisions locally, the startup welcome essentials were very generous so everything you need is provided there is no need to bring lots with you. Great layout for a cottage as only over 2 floors. We were 3 guests and one pet which worked really well although can imagine 6 guests as advertised would be a bit of a squeeze. Bathroom tap was a bit wobbly and needed repair. It was very hot during out stay so we had to sleep with the windows open which was quite loud. An upstairs fan might make things a little more comfortable. All in all though an excellent location and charming cottage, would definitely stay again.

Thank you for your feedback. It meant we could quickly get repair to the tap done promptly. I would encourage contacting the agent as soon as any concern as you did, I would hate not to have the chance to rectify any concerns. It is a small cottage, I hope people can appreciate it when booking, the bunk room just adds options for families. I bought a trolly which helps with bring bags to the cottage, also just realised the co op do deliveries which is a good help too. I do hope you will enjoy staying again..
