  • "A lovely bright and spacious house in a great location."

Very clean and comfortable. Very well equipped. Minor point; we couldn’t get the gas fire to work and there were no instructions so were a little cool in the evenings in the sitting room. Otherwise, pretty perfect!

  • "A very beautiful property with plenty of space and wonderful welcome pack ."

Decorated to a high standard . Good position close to the sea frost . All that being said . The house keeper had left dirty towels in the cupboard in the main bathroom . The extractor fan in the downstairs bathroom did not work ..THe light did not work above the mirror in the down stairs toilet . The light out side did not work .And it would have been nice to have some heat as was very autumnal First floor bedroom at the front also had a stain on the carpet which was their when we arrived . But we loved the property . If all the little things had been attended to, the property would have been have scored a 10 . Thank you for allowing us to stay and enjoy the beautiful your home . PS THE BABY PIGEONS IN TREE NEXT DOOR WERE GROWING DAILY XX

  • "This is our 2nd time staying at wagtails."

The first stay the property was spotless and without fault in October 24 hence we booked again for Easter and also August this year as the property is in an ideal location, beds are so comfy and it’s spacious enough to fit 6 adults 2 kids and a dog.. This time however - we arrived and the floor hadn’t been hoovered properly, and I then discovered a hoover filled with dog hair and sand, with no hoover bag, and a broken handle . I rang Sykes straight away and was on hold for 20 mins before I got hold of anyone. They then sent back the house keeper who was a little confrontational saying she had hoovered top to bottom, that the hoover was rubbish. At this stage hoovering again with a broken hoover seemed futile so I told her to go whilst we waited for a replacement which arrived about 6pm by this point I had to feed my children and get them to bed so I did the hoovering myself. When I went upstairs it was evident the rooms hadn’t been dusted properly- thick dust on the bottom shelves of the bedside cabinets, on the wardrobes, dead flies behind the blinds on the windowsills. By this point it was 7pm and my parents were arriving in the morning to stay so again I cleaned it as the lady on the phone had said there was no housekeeping on a Sunday. I have taken videos if anyone at either Sykes or Yorkshire Coastal cottages wishes to see. Next day we discovered the waste disposal was broken so water wouldn’t drain from the sink and the bins had not been emptied at the front (council issue) and also under the sink in the property. Queue another 2 phone calls on hold for 15 mins so I gave up. We did miss a courtesy call back from Sykes on Sunday as the reception is poor in sandsend but when I tried to return the call again on hold so I gave up. You don’t go on holiday to be listening to hold music, we have 2 young kids so it’s full on with activities. This house is beautiful, comfortable beds, in a wonderful location, has the kindest neighbours, spacious, great decor and ironically very easy to clean! It just needs some TLC and a proper deep clean to get it back to where it was. Please owners leave a decent hoover and mop for your housekeepers! And also leave some cleaning products for tenants to use whilst we stay. Also Sykes- if you insist on only allowing us to check in late on a Saturday it would be helpful to have housekeeping available on a Sunday. We as tenants find it uncomfortable to complain and then have the person you are criticising turn up. Also sort your helplines out, the wait time is unacceptable.

SANDSEND

Whitby 2.5 miles.

Lying on Yorkshire's spectacular Heritage Coastline, Sandsend is the ideal place for a family holiday with its award winning, wide sweeping beaches, rock pools and dramatic cliffs. Indeed this part of the coastline is known locally as the Dinosaur Coast because of the many fossils found here. Children will enjoy damming the little beck where it crosses the beach to form a freshwater lagoon - great (and safe) for paddling and boating! For the more energetic the village sits on the lovely long distance Cleveland Way Trail, which offers great off-road cycling along the disused coastal railway as well as breathtaking clifftop walks. The National Trust now own the nearby headland, Sandsend Ness, where there is a delightful nature trail in the old quarry pits. A special place offering something for everyone!
