  • "The house was lovely, fantastic location, spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated."

Only comment would be that all the kitchen cupboards were full of (lovely) crockery etc and there was nowhere to put any food!

  • "The attractive little house was very clean, freshly decorated (I liked the colours!"

) and nicely presented. However, it was spoiled by the terrible stench of damp and mould in the kitchen. After sitting for half an hour at breakfast the first day, my eyes were burning from the spores and my husband's asthma was triggered. We had to eat all our meals out. The cupboard under the stairs is like a gas chamber - opened the door once and never again. The cupboard under the sink and the wall cabinet nearest the window are also bad. And this was in a dry week. What it's like after days of rain I dread to think. The drier wasn't working properly. There was spin, but no heat. We had to dry our clothes on the radiators (which happily work very well.) Two small points. First: there is no soap dish or caddy in the shower. You have to put the soap on the floor, which is not only a nuisance but dangerous. Come on, Owners, do you put the soap on the floor in your own shower at home? Thought not. You wouldn't put up with it, so why should a guest? Second: well done for providing a hair drier, but to use it you need a socket next to a mirror. The socket in the bedroom was in the corner behind the chair, and too far from the mirror for the flex to reach. These are small points, but the daily nuisance of them makes the difference between making a return visit and going somewhere else. Don't spoil the ship for a ha'porth of tar. The mould problem is more serious, of course. It's not just a horrible smell, it's a health hazard.

  • "Great little cottage."

Would be difficult for anyone with even mild mobility issues but description does say about that. Lovely main bedroom and good bathroom although description says there is a bath when only a shower. Shower very good though !

  • "The house was very disappointing."

No parking scratch cards on arrival. Outside bins overflowing and not emptied even though we reported this on arrival. Outside patio was dirty and unusable. Loft was damp and leaking through ceiling. House smelt fusty and was generally not very clean. Quite disappointing all round. Would not stay here again.

Absolutely horrendous. No customer service when concerns repeatedly raised.

  • "The house was pretty comfortable and spacious, but what let it down was an accumulation of a few major and a few smaller things."

Parts of the property did not live up to the advertised images and were in need of upkeep; we couldn't use the courtyard as it was an unpleasant space, there was an unpleasant odour as soon as you walked in the front door and the bathroom seals really need done. Other things are a broken lamp in the living room, a half broken toaster, a hall light that just flashed constantly and a broken tumble dryer. These were more inconvenient than anything but still it took the sheen off of our stay. The courtyard was particularly disappointing because that was a large part of the decision to book this particular accommodation. Furthermore we didn't believe there had been a deep clean as was evident from the dirty windows and surfaces. I appreciate current circumstances have affected everything but from our perspective it just looks like an excuse to cut out the welcome pack. Consequently I don't feel inclined to book a managed property as we had a private property the week before and the difference was noticed. I would be interested to know your response. Regards Liz Muschamp

  • "Immediately felt at home on entering the cottage."

Everything was spot on! Being central yet tucked away was perfect, it was amazingly quiet. The decor is well thought out and relaxing. Definitely hope to return soon.

  • "We really liked the cottage, the kitchen was well equipped."

The bedroom was a good size and bed comfortable, looks like new carpets throughout. The only thing we felt let the cottage down was the condition of the bath - the seal around the shower screen and bath was moldy and black, it needs to be removed and replaced and the shower wasn't very powerful and difficult to get the right temperature. We would visit again if the bathroom was improved.

Having recently undergone a programme of refurbishment ready for the 2021 season, West End House is a cosy two bedroom town house in the heart of Whitby, a short 5 minute stroll to the picturesque harbour, shops and fantastic restaurants.

This welcoming property is perfectly situated to discover Yorkshire’s most beloved seaside resort.

Set over three floors, its comfortable accommodation is ideal for families or couples who love having everything on their doorstep.

It has the added benefit of an enclosed courtyard with furniture and is also pet-friendly. The property comprises a ground floor kitchen with dining area.

Gather together around the scrubbed pine table for home cooked fare or bring home fish and chips after a day at the beach – it’s your holidays, you deserve a rest!

The kitchen leads to an enclosed courtyard, a lovely spot for your morning cuppa. Off the courtyard, there is a utility room that provides storage, plus a useful washing machine and tumble dryer – handy for a family beach holiday. Put your feet up and relax in the homely sitting room, there’s a TV/DVD, plus a real flame effect gas fire to bring warmth and comfort after a bracing coastal walk.

When it’s time for bed, head upstairs to the first floor where you’ll find a tastefully decorated king-size double bedroom with plenty of storage and a dressing table.

This floor also has the house bathroom with shower, basin and WC. Children, in particular, will be delighted with the charming second floor twin nestled into the eaves – great for star-gazing.

The décor is simple but pretty, with a seaside theme, plus there are bedside lamps to ensure there’s always a story before light’s out. Outside is an enclosed courtyard with table and chairs for enjoying breakfast or drinks outside. The sandy beach at Whitby has been much-loved for generations, why not try boogie-boarding or stretch your legs on a family walk to Sandsend when the tide is out, a very achievable 3 miles.

Kids will enjoy crabbing in the harbour or searching for fossils, there are also fun boat trips which depart daily from the harbour.

Take up the challenge of the famous ‘199 steps’ to St Mary’s Church and visit Whitby’s iconic Abbey, an inspirational landmark for Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’. Another great experience not to be missed is the heritage steam train which runs from Whitby to Grosmont and Goathland.

It’s a unique way of seeing the stunning North York Moors.

The beloved seaside resort of Scarborough is also nearby (30 mins’ drive); Peasholm Park and miniature railway there are sure to delight the young at heart. There is so much to see and do in beautiful Whitby, and West End House is right at the very heart of it all – that means more time spent making memories together.
