  • "We had a lovely stay in Rosedale Abbey and the cottage was lovely, very nicely decorated and just what we were looking for."

As it's a stone cottage it was also very cool in the recent heatwave and even the bedrooms were not too hot. The village was lovely and we went to Graze on the Green a couple of times for breakfast and to the Coach House Inn to watch the World Cup and sit outside to cope with the heat. There's a small shop which is run by a really friendly guy along with a tea room but we didn't have time to go in there. The only downside of the cottage is that it didn't have a private garden which would have been useful in the hot weather. We went and sat on the village green under a tree instead.

  • "The garden and property are not suitable for a dog."

The interior is shabby and poorly equipped with a number of safety concerns and there was a serious leak requiring the attention of a plumber rendering the washing machine unusable for most of the week. These matters were brought up with both Sykes and the owner but were inadequately dealt with. The property description is inaccurate.

When you first raised these concerns with us, we acted promptly and arranged for a plumber to attend the property at the earliest available opportunity, which was the following working day. Following his inspection, he confirmed that there was no evidence of a leak and advised that any issue reported appeared to be coincidental rather than related to the property. As this is a newly refurbished property, we have received very positive feedback from guests to date, particularly regarding the quality of the interior and overall presentation. With regard to the oven, it is brand new and was installed by a qualified electrician, meaning it fully complies with the relevant safety standards and does not present a hazard. We also made you aware prior to your arrival that the garden was not fully enclosed. At the time, you confirmed that this would not be an issue. While we are disappointed to receive a negative review given the prompt action taken in response to your concerns, we do appreciate all feedback and will take your comments on board as we continue to improve the guest experience. The property

Kirkbymoorside 8 miles.

1 Rosedale Abbey rests in the heart of the picture-postcard village of Rosedale Abbey, near Kirkbymoorside, offering a welcoming stone cottage that’s well suited to couples, friends or small families looking to switch off in the North York Moors.

Step inside and you’re greeted by a cosy living/dining room, where a woodburning stove takes centre stage, just the thing after a day wandering through the valley or striding across the surrounding heather-clad moorland.

The kitchen is thoughtfully equipped for home cooking, making it easy to settle into a slower rhythm of breakfasts, packed lunches and hearty suppers.

A ground-floor bathroom, complete with bath and shower over, basin, heated towel rail and WC, completes the downstairs layout.

Upstairs, two inviting bedrooms, a double and a twin, provide comfortable spaces to rest weary legs after riverside walks or afternoons exploring the wider moors.

To the rear, the lawned garden with outdoor furniture offers a pleasant spot to enjoy the fresh Yorkshire air, whether that’s a quiet morning coffee or a relaxed evening drink.

Parking is available, and with pets welcome, dogs can enjoy the open countryside too.

A village pub is just nearby for a well-earned pint, and the river sits within easy reach for gentle strolls.

Kirkbymoorside offers handy amenities, while Pickering tempts with its heritage railway and market town charm.

Helmsley is also within driving distance, known for its castle ruins and independent shops.

With sweeping landscapes and characterful towns all around, 1 Rosedale Abbey makes a fine base for exploring this beautiful corner of North Yorkshire.
