  • "This is our second stay at The Shipwrights and it didn’t disappoint."

The house is in a really good position, it’s in a very quiet little cul- de- sac. It’s an easy level walk into Whitby where you will find an array of interesting shops and eating places. Fish and chips are delicious there. Should you choose to eat back at the house you will find that The Shipwrights is very well equipped for self catering, there is everything you need, ample crockery and cutlery and sufficient pans and dishes to make catering easy. There is a comfortable sitting room with a great tv which our granddaughters loved. The beds are comfortable, everyone slept well. There is an en- suite shower and a bath with a shower over in the family bathroom and a cloakroom on the ground floor. There was always plenty of hot water for us. Shipwrights also has 2 parking spaces which is an amazing asset in Whitby. We have already booked for next year which tells you how much we enjoyed our holiday at The Shipwrights.

  • "Overall we were very happy with this property and our only real gripe was that no towels were provided."

For the price we paid for the accommodation we would expect towels and had to go out and buy some on the day of our arrival which wasn’t a good start. The house itself is lovely and very well equipped. It is a ten minute walk into the town which meant we could leave the cars on the drive and walk. We did choose the accommodation partly due to its proximity but also because it had a little play area opposite for our 6 year old granddaughter. Unfortunately this was closed for refurbishment throughout our stay so we had a very sad little girl who went out every day to see if it had been reopened!! Unfortunately despite it being the Easter weekend it remained shut….not the owners fault I know but still disappointing when it is one of the factors that led us to choosing this house.

We have only just bought the property and are sorry you were not fully happy. It does state on the website that towels are not provided, but we have added a reminder when you receive the entry code. We are sorry for your little girl’s sake about the play area, but as you say, we can do nothing about it. We do hope you’ll stay with us again Property Owner

The property

The Shipwright is a pleasing three-storey end-terrace resting in Whitby, North Yorkshire.

Suited to families and friends this abode is just a short stroll from Whitby amenities and beaches, with en-suite facilities and proximity to River Esk.

Pull into the off-road parking and step out into a peaceful corner of Whitby, where this end-terrace townhouse sits comfortably within the town and close to the river.

With space to park up and settle in, it is easy to unload bags, take a breath of sea air and look forward to exploring on foot, knowing the harbour, shops and shoreline are all within an easy stroll.

Head inside and begin your stay on the ground floor, where a welcoming sitting room offers a relaxed place to slow the pace.

Sink into the seating, flick on the TV and unwind after a day outdoors, whether that means catching up on a favourite programme or simply enjoying a quiet moment with a book.

Nearby, a handy cloakroom and utility space make longer stays feel effortless, giving you room to freshen up, tackle sandy clothes or prepare for the next day’s plans without fuss.

Make your way upstairs to the heart of the home, where the fitted kitchen and dining area invite you to cook, gather and linger.

Set the kettle on after a bracing coastal walk, spread out local produce on the worktops or bring everyone together around the table for unrushed meals and shared stories.

Just beyond, the main sitting room provides another inviting place to relax, where you can settle back in the warmth of the flame-effect gas fire, stretch out on the seating and enjoy evenings spent chatting, watching a film or planning tomorrow’s adventures.

When night falls, continue up to the upper floors where four thoughtfully arranged bedrooms offer flexible sleeping space for families and groups of friends.

Choose the king-size bedroom with its en-suite shower room if you enjoy starting the day in peace, while the twin room and adult bunk room provide practical, comfortable options for others in your party.

A further double bedroom on the ground floor offers additional privacy, ideal if you prefer being tucked away from the rest of the house.

A well-appointed family bathroom serves the upper rooms, perfect for a long soak after a day spent walking the coast or moors.

Outside, the small enclosed garden creates a welcome extension of the living space.

Step out onto the patio with a morning coffee, fire up the barbecue on warmer evenings or settle into the garden furniture as the day draws to a close, enjoying the calm before heading out for a riverside walk or an easy wander into town for dinner.

Whitby itself is a joy to explore on foot, with its winding streets, independent shops and welcoming pubs, while the sea front beckons for relaxed beach days, harbour walks and fish and chips enjoyed with a view.

Venture a little further and discover Robin Hood’s Bay, where steep, characterful streets lead down to the shoreline, perfect for coastal wandering, fossil hunting and far-reaching sea views.

Scarborough offers classic seaside charm with sweeping bays, lively promenades and historic landmarks that make for a full and varied day out.

For a change of scenery, head into the North York Moors and immerse yourself in open landscapes, heather-clad hills and peaceful walking routes, where dramatic views and fresh air set the tone for memorable days outdoors.

Whether you are drawn by the coast, the moors or the charm of the town itself, The Shipwright offers a welcoming place to return to at the end of every day.
