Akeld Cottage

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage in Akeld.

It proved to be an excellent base for our holiday, offering everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay, as well as being ideally situated for exploring the surrounding area. The cottage itself was spacious, comfortable and very well equipped, with plenty of room to spread out and make ourselves at home. It was clear that a lot of thought had gone into providing everything guests might need, particularly when it came to the kitchen and general household facilities. It's always nice to arrive somewhere and find that the practical details have been taken care of, rather than discovering that various everyday essentials are missing! A particularly lovely touch was the generous welcome gift waiting for us on arrival. We were pleasantly surprised to find a selection of food, milk and even a bottle of wine in the fridge. It was a thoughtful and much-appreciated gesture, especially after travelling, and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. It's these little extras that can make a real difference to a holiday experience. The location was another real highlight. We spent much of our holiday out and about, enjoying a variety of day trips, and found Akeld to be an excellent starting point for exploring this beautiful part of Northumberland and the surrounding areas. Having somewhere comfortable and welcoming to return to at the end of a busy day made the holiday all the more enjoyable. Communication with the owner was excellent throughout. The pre-arrival information was particularly comprehensive, with clear and detailed instructions that made finding the property, arriving and settling in very straightforward. We also experienced an unexpected problem with the boiler during our stay, but the owner was extremely responsive and helpful when we got in touch. These things can happen in any property, and for us, the important thing is how they are dealt with. It was reassuring to know that the owner was readily available and took the matter seriously. Overall, this was a very enjoyable stay in a well-appointed and generously proportioned cottage. It offered a great combination of comfort, practicality and location, and provided everything we needed for a thoroughly enjoyable break. The thoughtful welcome provisions, helpful communication and attention to detail were all much appreciated. We would happily recommend the cottage to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient base from which to explore Northumberland, and would certainly consider staying again if we return to the area.

Akeld cottage is a very comfortable property in a beautifully peaceful location.

We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed sitting out in the evenings watching the hares and rabbits in the field.

A very comfortable, well equipped and warm cottage surrounded by gorgeous countryside and easily accessible to the cultural and costal areas of Holy island, Bamburgh and Berwick upon Tweed ( approx 30 mins by car ) .

This cottage is a little Tardis first impressions seem really small bu once inside there is so much space and the garden area is lovely with tow sheltered sitting areas and lovely views , sunsets and night skies .

Really lovely property with all the amenities like a washing machine.

The owner is very helpful emailing you just as you are about to stay to let you know all about the property and lots of lovely things to do whilst you are there. The property though situated with other cottages was so peaceful especially when you stepped in the back garden you felt like you were the only ones there. We were even lucky and saw the wild goats out in the distance.

This cottage is in a wonderful setting, with magnificent views of the Cheviot Hills.

It's also a good location: peaceful, yet accessible to many interesting places, including Wooler, the local market town.

This cottage is lovely.

So clean, comfortable and well equipped. Gorgeous views from the garden. A friend who visited described the feel of the house as serene. Having a paddock for the dog was brilliant. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place. In fact I'm so keen to get back that I've already booked another week in October!

The location and situation of the property were excellent.

..views were incredible and it was peaceful, where lots of destinations can be reached easily by car. The cottage was mostly comfortable, with a couple of exceptions including the single bed and one of the sofas. The kitchen had all the basics, but the dishwasher was tiny and the washing machine unusable due to the foistiness. Problems experienced with the shower were responded to quickly by the owners and were fixed within a couple of days. Although the cleanliness was generally good, there were some exceptions in the bathrooms and leftover food in the sofas.

We've stayed here many times and always enjoy coming back to this warm and comfortable cottage.

Akeld Cottage is a fantastic base for exploring the Northumbrian coast.

It was warm and cosy, and had everything we needed for a week's holiday. The main double bed was exceptionally comfortable and so were the sofas, in fact the whole atmosphere of the cottage was very relaxed and chilled. The view from the garden was stunning, and the garden itself was perfect for dogs. We had to say goodbye to our beloved Working Cocker two weeks before our stay, but our old Springer loved the house and garden. We had no issues with parking, and the lack of light pollution and quietness ensured quality sleep every night. We would love to return and experience the garden in the summer months. Such a shame we had to come home really! ☺️

A wonderful, warm cottage to stay in if you value great views of the Cheviot Hills, a great enclosed garden with access to neighbouring paddock for dog/s and easy access to a number of walks in the hills and/or wonderful beaches near Bamburgh and Northumberland coast.

Very much a homely feeling to the cottage, kitchen a bit difficult, but so very warm and comfortable to come back to at the end of the day, thank you, Chris.

The setting is wonderful, beautiful sunsets, the sun going down behind the hill and a lovely garden in which to enjoy a cuppa or a glass of wine. The cottage was like a home from home and so good to come back to after enjoying everything Northumberland has to offer. The dogs loved it too!

Stunning views from the back garden. It was pure bliss to sit and read in the afternoons in the garden and just have sheep for company! Welcome pack was very much appreciated to. Beautiful setting for this lovely quaint cottage.

Kitchen well-equipped and bedrooms very spacious. The beds were very comfy and it was a pleasure relaxing both inside in the lounge and outside in the well maintained garden.

Quaint place to stay, very well located for easy access both inland and to the coast.

Wooler is a lovely town with several independent shops. Cottage has a very well enclosed garden and field that our dog enjoyed very much and it is in a quiet rural location. Clean and comfortable to stay in with a generous welcome pack.

Very secluded cottage and in a lovely tranquil and very very quite setting however the parking area was not easily accessed through the venal and parking for two cars was difficult due to the outbuilding and the stones on the grass to the right when you enter the yard are a pain because you cant really manoeuvre in the tight area, there was a lot to recommend about the cottage but disappointing in a few areas, the front door lock need to be looked at as the lock was difficult to open close, the microwave oven needs replaced, the cottage needs ventilation especially due to the kerosene boiler in the hall as the smell was very overpowering, the bed mattress in the single bed is to soft but that is possibly just a personal choice, the supply of towels was an issue as there was no spare towels and the cottage was needing a bit of TLC regarding cleanliness However overall it was a good location and the cottage was just needing a bit of TLC to bring it up to being a recommended property my comments may look petty but the small issues need addressing but we did have a lovely time, we can due to the small issues only give it and 7/10 score please remember it was just a list of small issues that needs addressing to make it a 10/10 and we would visit and use the cottage again

bed was lovely and comfortable, everything we needed to cook with. Beautiful views, Teddy and Buddy the dogs loved the garden and enclosed field to run about in. Plenty of places to visit, will definitely go back there this year, thankyou to the owners.

The cottage is in a wonderful location for walks in the Cheviot Hills and with easy access to the coast and the various castles.

This is our second stay at the cottage. It is a very warm, cosy and welcoming place with great enclosed garden space and field next door for dog owners. The views from the back are superb! Watchers of stars will enjoy the night skies. A very relaxing and comfy stay for lovers of the area.

Initial impression is poor when you first drive up to the property due to general poor maintenance of shared driveway.

This is not the owners fault, but not helped by dead plants outside the house (October when we visited so might be totally different in summer) Having said that, we were very happy with the house itself. Very warm and comfortable. Extremely quiet, lovely views. Great walks from the door. All you need for an excellent holiday. Thank you

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Akeld cottage which was as described.

The welcome pack was a lovely surprise. We had one problem with the central heating boiler but that was resolved very quickly by the owners but the boiler remained an ongoing problem and sometimes there was a very strong smell of heating oil. However, I would definitely recommend Akeld Cottage to anyone hoping for a peaceful break in glorious countryside

Had a fantastic stay, the cottage was lovely, the dogs loved the garden and we where very lucky to have good weather every day so was able to sit outside and enjoy the views and the peace.

We had one small problem which we had to ring the owner about but was dealt with within 20 mins which was excellent, the cottage is very central to many places and some lovely walks, we would return if we came back to the area

Lovely property which was spacious and comfortable.

The enclosed garden is beautiful with amazing views over the countryside which we never tired of. The use of the adjacent acre field was handy to give our two Boxers the ability to let off some steam. The goodies on arrival after a long drive were really appreciated. Although there are neighbouring cottages it is so very peaceful. The location is great with lovely walks on the doorstep and beaches, shops etc only a short drive away. The neighbouring sheep kept us amused with their comings and goings. We returned home recharged and refreshed.

Akeld Cottage is absolute heaven, the cosy, comfortable interior is matched by the wrap-around gardens with more than adequate seating to take in the wonderful views.

The kitchen has everything you could possibly need and more, and the sofas and beds, pillows etc are very comfortable. We had a wonderful week and the weather was glorious, note: don't close the sitting room curtains as you will miss the amazing sunsets! We must return again.

This is a beautiful little house in a great location.

Only three things that were a little annoying the hot water went off twice once we let the owner no but the second time was the morning we were leaving so we all had to have cold showers, the company advertised with the house that there was complimentary horse riding which I was then told stopped a year ago and the third thing was being told on your last day to strip the beds etc when you have paid good money for a holiday the last thing you want to be doing is cleaning.

The house was comfortable, clean and well equipped.

But to us far the best bit was the swallows, deer, wild goats, hares and rabbits visible either in or from the garden. We were unclear why the listing did not make more of this.

A great cottage that provided everything we were looking for.

Well appointed, comfortable and with easy access to the likes of Alnwick, Berwick and the coast along with some good walking with amazing views on the doorstep. Correspondence during the stay was excellent. The brilliant local butcher and deli in Wooler were sources of some delicious produce and the staff there really friendly. Both wonderful finds. A nice garden which would have been greatvto sit out in for breakfast or s morning coffee had the temperatures been more suitable. Looking forward to returning sometime in the future.

Akeld cottage is a lovely cottage with everything you need, the garden is peaceful and has wonderful views.

It’s a great location for walking straight from the door, or the beaches are an easy drive away. The town of Wooler good shops and cafes. We had good weather and had a brilliant holiday, and would recommend it as a place to stay.

We went with the intention of much needed peace and tranquility and we got it. Cozy nights in with the log burner. We also did a bit of stargazing and theres no light pollution. We had a lovely holiday.

Lovely cosy cottage with outstanding views across the fields to the hills.

Everything you need is provided to make your stay comfortable. Perfect location for visiting the Northumberland coast, Border towns and the hills close by. Fantastic secure garden which our wee Westie loved. Walks straight from the door. Can recommend Turnbulls in Alnwick for delicious local produce if you want to eat in. We will definitely book again, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Akeld Cottage was absolutely wonderful.

It was so cosy which when you’ve been walking and dipping in the river was lovely.

On arrival the front of the property did not live up to the picture provide.

On entry things improved but the fire starter kit was non exiting 4 logs half a fire lighter and some paper this would not of lit a fire so the first thing we had to do was drive down to the local garage for logs kindling and coal though we would of done this the next day after travelling it was the last thing we wanted to do. The larger sofa in the lounge was very uncomfortable and really needs replacing the smaller sofa was fine. However, we used the main bedroom and the mattress on this bed has collapse and was very uncomfortable and we left early as we both had bad backs from it. The main bathroom was fine but the shower curtain was yellow at the bottom so need replaced or a good bleaching as it was my husband struggled with the height he is 6’ 1” so we then had to revert to using the the en-suite shower in the other bedroom, did feel quilty using 2 bathrooms but had no choice. The kitchen had everything you would need but again is very very tired looking. Saying that the cottage has a lovely cosy feel and with a little upgrading could be lovely.

Could do with some outdoor lighting for the access archway and courtyard. Asda delivery driver had fun negotiating the route in. Nice secure garden area, ideal for the dogs to investigate. Owners were very helpful.

Beautiful and convenient location approx thirty to forty minutes from most visited places like Bamburgh, Seahouses, Holy Island, Hay Farm Heavy Horse Centre. Just loved every minute of my holiday there 5⭐️.

We just had a relaxing week in lovely Akeld Cottage, the cottage is beautiful with the most stunning outlook, it has a lovely french feel to it.

The garden was secure for our little Rocco and a great space to enjoy with a good book!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, despite the not so great weather which sadly didn’t allow us to make full use of the lovely garden. It’s very peaceful and ideally situated for exploring Wooler and the surrounding Cheviots, or for heading further afield to the coast. The cottage was warm and the beds extremely comfortable. Owner dealt quickly with a minor problem that we had on the first day. Would definitely recommend.

Loved the secure garden which was perfect for our dog and helped us to relax knowing he couldn’t chase the sheep in the surrounding fields. The goodies left for us on arrival was a lovely thought and very much appreciated. I enjoyed beautiful walks in the fields around the cottage which made the start of my day a great one. Great cottage to use as a base for exploring the area, however as we came into the courtyard it looked quite scruffy, the cottage itself needs an outside light, there's obviously been one as there is wires hanging down above the front door.

The entrance into the cottage needs attention, dirty skirting boards and a filthy cream rug. The lounge and bedrooms were very comfortable. Kitchen pans needed to be washed before using and the dishwasher is a waste of time or instructions needed if it to fit plates in! Lovely garden though we never got chance to use it, would be great in the summer months. Also needs to mentioned in the listing is that the riding school is closed in the winter months, doesn't even mention this on the riding schools website, this completely spoiled our holiday plans.

The cottage was very homely, warm and comfortable with a very well-equipped kitchen.

The garden was well maintained and very safe for our two dogs. Although the property has several neighbours, they were rarely seen making it a very quiet place to stay. It is a great base to explore Northumberland, particularly its fantastic beaches and the Scottish Borders. Would thoroughly recommend.

A lovely comfortable cottage, very well equipped with everything we could possibly need.

. We particularly loved the large garden, which was completely dog proof and had plenty of garden furniture. The cottage is in a great location, with walks right from the door and an easy drive to the coast. Wooler was less than 3 miles away, with cafes, pubs and a small supermarket. The views from the cottage were beautiful, and we enjoyed watching the hares and wild goats in the field. Everything in the cottage and garden was in good condition and spotlessly clean. We really couldn't fault it, thank you!

After our horrendous experience with the Sykes cottage rental at Shooter’s Lodge, Wem, Shropshire last year, we were not looking forward to this rental but it had been transferred from a pre-Covid booking.

However, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit at Akeld Cottage. Our only concerns were; 1. In the description of the cottage, there was no mention of the garden not being private, as one of the windows from the adjoining cottage was within the boundary of Akeld Cottage garden, which encroached on our privacy. It was a shock to see a face looking out at us. 2. Although the cottage was quaint, comfy and relatively clean, there were some areas that required attention I.e. rugs needed shampooing or replacing, Kitchen Lino was buckled in places. Having said this, the cottage was very well equipped with a brilliant Welcome Pack, comfortable beds, stunning views and beautiful area.

This was our second visit which says it all.

We visited with our recuse dog Poppy who loved the gardens and walks in the hills behind the cottage. The property is clean and spacious with lovely quiet gardens. We will certainly be hoping to book again soon x

We had a wonderful stay at Akeld Cottage, our first visit but certainly will return when possible.

The cottage is warm and welcoming, very homely and comfortable. More like staying in a home than a holiday let. Rooms are very well equipped, and many thoughtful touches added by the owners to make for an enjoyable and comfortable stay. Any small problem was dealt with immediately by the very friendly and helpful owners. The only slight discomfort we experienced was the hardness of the two double mattresses, but many people prefer firm beds, so that’s just an observation, not a complaint. The setting is gorgeous with stunning countryside all around, views from the windows and gardens are inspirational, especially as I’m an artist. Staying there in autumn was perfect for me with all the beautiful colours of nature, the wildlife and many varieties of birds around the cottage and the whole area. Would return to this cottage without question. Can’t recommend highly enough.

The cottage is very comfortable.

Both bathrooms clean and modern. The only thing I couldn't find was an airing horse for indoors drying of clothes. That's all though, everything else was provided. And the owner was very accommodating of our request to leave a little later on last day.

This the third time we've stayed at this property and we love it.

The improvements made with the woodburner, the larger fridge and the extra shower room were much appreciated. The freezer could definitely do with defrosting and supplying a washing up bowl big enough to take the dinner plates (because they definitely don't fit in the tiny dishwasher) would be very welcome! We'll be back!

It felt like home from home and we will definitely be retuning. Such a quiet and peaceful area, totally relaxed when we left.

The couple of issues that arose during our stay were dealt with promptly by the owners and they could not have been more helpful. Just wish we could have stayed longer!

Nice cottage in a very quiet location (just what we needed).

Cottage very nicely located to things that we wanted to see and do in the area. Garden and views really nice. The only little thing that we would say and it is possibly being a little picky that some of the pots and pans had seen better days, but there was a wide selection in the cupboards. Certainly good value and a nice little welcome pack for us when we arrived. We would certainly go back and stay there again, possibly different time of year to see other places in that area.

We felt very safe, both at the cottage and in shops and cafes, despite Covid 19.

Location amazing.

The view from the garden is mesmerising. The only negative is the decor is a little "grandma friendly", but that doesn't mean it wasnt comfortable, just not our taste.

Really enjoyed staying in this cottage.

Very comfortable, great views from the house and quiet. Our dog loved the garden. Good location for hill walking - there's a nice walking loop behind the house that is good for an evening stroll. The lanes are good for cycling too - so quiet and not too hilly most of the time, but if you go up Wooler Common or take Sustrans route 68 out of Wooler you're in for some serious hill climbing.

Booked Akeld Cottage last minute as a 'firework free' zone for our two dogs and couldn't have picked a better cottage/location.

Warm and welcoming with fresh flowers and welcome pack. The garden was particularly great, very dog friendly, completely secure. The views from the cottage are amazing, would love to visit in summer.

Excellent location and all rooms well equipped and comfortable.

Walking directly from the door onto the Cheviot hills is an outstanding feature of this cottage, and yet easy 30 min drive to the coast too. Had great complimentary horse ride at the owners riding centre. Great welcome pack. Local Italian restaurant "Milan" in Wooler is excellent and very popular so booking advised.

The garden is delightful with lovely views of the hills. Akeld is a good base for exploring north Northumberland and the Borders. We had no hesitation in booking the cottage again twice for 2020.

Fantastic welcome gift . Home from home. What more can I say apart from my other half would like to live there permanently. Also it’s our second year we have been and are thinking about returning next year. The owners Mr and Mrs Jeffreys are very accommodating. I couldn’t wish for more .

This cottage has beautiful views and great garden.

The rooms and beds are comfortable and the owner's welcome pack was appreciated. If 6 people are staying here then 1 toilet in the bathroom can be tricky and the kitchen is on the small side. It would also be nice to have more local information available with maybe a few games and books for the children. Considering the weather was cold we were always warm and cosy, so thank you for a welcome break in this beautiful part of the North.

Very helpful owner who sorted a minor issue with hot water.

Free horse ride was great. Cottage had good garden and lovely views but at the front where the entrance and car space was is influenced by other cottage owners. Thus, as the snow melted various large broken plastic plant pots marking lawn plots were unattractive and made driving in and out of a parking place an issue as it meant avoiding these unattractive 'scrap yard' pots. Maybe without the snow they look less of a mess. Ariel view would show the picture as does looking down from the hills.

Lovely well presented cottage, the owner left us several lovely items in the welcome pack.

The property was excellent for our dogs with a lovely fenced garden with panoramic views down the valley. In a lovely location close to all the amenities in Wooler, yet on the edge of the beautiful Cheviot hills. We had a delightful drive over to Bamburgh with some magnificent scenery, and hardly another car on the road.

This was a lovely find, lots of personal touches that made it feel more like home than a holiday let.

A comfortable cottage in a beautiful, quiet location, but with easy access to many of the popular Northumberland tourist spots. The cottage has a secure, good size garden which is perfect for dogs, and has a marvellous outlook down the valley. All-in-all perfect and a great refuge from the busy south.
