  • "Lovely clean cottage, well equipped kitchen & a great size shower."

    Nice little enclosed sitting area outside for an evening glass of wine. Our young dog would not settle & we had to cut our stay short but would definitely return in the future.

  • "Absolutely an amazing place."

    Dedicated fenced dog walking fields with plenty of bins. Able to walk straight onto the Pennine Way and into Kielder Forrest. The cottage is clean and very well equipped with small fenced garden and patio. Closest main shops is across the boarder about a 35 minute drive to Hawick where you will find all the major supermarkets. Internet had a strong signal only time we lost connection was when we were in the middle of Kielder Forrest. Will definitely book and stay again.

  • "Accommodation comfortable and clean."

    Walking from site and the dog field is amazing. Disappointed to be told on arrival that no cooker/grill available especially since nearest shops are 9 miles away and we had to make other arrangements for meals than planned. Lack of information about appliances, rubbish, recycling etc which we’d expect to find in the accommodation.

    Oven packed up and was quickly replaced,next day, Appliances are pretty basic and simple. Rubbish/ recycling id very near cottage entrance. Property Owner

    Lovely people, only problem we had, was the lack of oven gloves.

  • "Fir Tree cottage was a lovely toasty warm cottage perfect for two people."

    The internet was good, the heating was great and the shower was hot. I did find the bed a bit hard and the pillow wasn't very comfortable but I still had some good sleeps. The only other thing was the condensation in the bathroom which I did mention to the owner. It was very wet on the floor and on the walls but I do think it was probably condensation as there was no window in the bathroom. It was very cold outside and the bathroom was warm and toasty inside, which could have contributed to the condensation. In general it was a great place in a beautiful area and well worth the visit. I would use the property again so that speaks volumes, Thank you Mike and Angela.

  • "What a perfect little gem of a cottage!"

    Spotlessly clean and tidy, with gorgeous furnishings and a beautiful bathroom. Positioned on a static caravan site right on the Pennine Way the views and walks were amazing for our first visit to Northumberland. The warm welcome from the owners was lovely, and the cottage was toasty warm on our arrival. We didn’t visit the nearest pub but used the local shop which is around 15 mins and has a good variety of produce if a little pricy. We walked around Kielder, visited both the lake and the castle, had a lovely interaction with two red squirrels, walked around the Redeswood Forest and found the beautiful waterfall. Our only little grumble would be that the saucepans, knives and scissors were a bit worn and there was no instructions for the cooker or dishwasher and no information about the area or recycling information. We will definitely be back as there was lots of things we haven’t seen and done. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Rachel, Simon, Tracker and Marley the dachshunds.

    The cottage is equipped with everything you need. Bellingham and Otterburn are just a short drive away for any supplies you may need. Dog friendly for those animal lovers, our old dog definitely enjoyed her stay.

Fir Tree Cottage is a welcoming, bijou, semi-detached cottage situated on the owners' caravan park, in the hamlet of Cottonshopeburnfoot, nine miles from Otterburn on the edge of the Northumberland National Park.

Boasting hill, field and river views, this single-storey Northumberland cottage offers cosy and well-equipped accommodation with a comfortable en-suite double bedroom and an open plan living area with kitchen, dining area and sitting area.

Outside this Northumberland cottage, there is a patio with a table and bench, which provides a lovely spot to relax whilst you plan the day's activities.

The park has its own 25 acre enclosed dog walk as well as direct access to the Pennine Way and the wonderful Kielder Forest, from where you and your four-legged friend can enjoy miles and miles of fantastic walks, plus the area offers the opportunity to enjoy mountain biking, pony trekking and fishing.

We are lucky enough to be in the centre of the Dark Skies Gold Tier Award, meaning on a clear night you can see thousands of stars and the Milky Way!

The village of Otterburn is within driving distance and close by is Hadrian's Wall, whilst further afield is Alnwick.

Fir Tree Cottage on the edge of the Northumberland National Park is an ideal base for a romantic break.

The delightful village of Otterburn, once the site of the famous 1388 victory of the Scots over the English, nestles close to the banks of the River Rede, between the hills and moors overlooking the North Tyne Valley. It offers excellent walking opportunities and is on a variety of popular routes for cyclists. Hadrian's Wall and the beautiful Kielder Forest and Waters are close by, providing fantastic fishing, horse riding and nature watching, amidst superb, tranquil countryside. Otterburn is the former home of a busy weaving industry, and the world famous Otterburn Mill marks the village's historic past. Nearby Bellingham, built predominantly from local stone and slate, houses a handful of pubs, shops and tea rooms and a highly regarded 18 hole golf course. Visit the nearby, majestic, stately homes of Wallington Hall and Cragside, or the historic market town of Alnwick, with its stunning castle and gardens, a mere 40 minute drive. Otterburn is a superb location for a relaxing holiday, any time of year.
