  • "Superb house in a superb location."

    The house was perfect, it had everything that we needed. There was lots of information about where to visit in the house and Lynda and John also provided lots of ideas on places to visit and things to do. Location-wise, it is very close to Cragside and also within easy reach of all the attractions in Northumberland. We will definitely book this house again the next time we are in Northumberland.

  • "We had a lovely holiday in Northumberland and staying at Harefield was really the icing on the cake."

    Lovely house SPOTLESSLY clean, comfortable, spacious and everything you could possible need was provided, plus a lovely welcome pack on arrival. Lots of information on places to visit and a couple of gems recommended by the hosts. Thank you Lynda & John, your holiday home is really one of the nicest places we have ever stayed while holidaying in the UK.

  • "This has been one of the best cottages we have ever stayed in."

    It was so comfortable and had everything and more that we could need. The information left by the owners was informative and gave us loads of ideas about what to do and where to eat. The Sugar Sands coves were fantastic and so peaceful, well worth a visit. Owners Linda and John left us an excellent welcome pack. They were so and helpful and checked in with on the first night that everything was ok. One of our party left something behind and they went out of their way to return the item . We would definitely look at returning

  • "Just returned from our second stay this year at this lovely property."

    We had another great week here, the house is in a beautiful, peaceful location, with great views. The owners have gone above & beyond with everything they provide in their property, you couldn’t ask for more. Once again, they provided us with useful information prior to & during our stay, they are lovely & nothing was too much trouble for them. The house is beautifully clean, is in a fantastic location for touring Northumberland & a great walking distance for Rothbury, which is a lovely place & well worth visiting. We look forward to returning again soon.

  • "A really clean, comfortable, spacious and homely property with everything we could possibly need/want in an ideal location between the national park and beautiful Northumberland beaches and only 1."

    5 miles from Cragside - well worth a visit. Lynda and John looked after us really well with text updates and suggestions and even provided a parking disc which was invaluable when we visited Morpeth. A real home from home and wonderful break - many thanks.

  • "This is a lovely property that is spotlessly clean."

    The kitchen is very well stocked - just turn up with food and even Christmas dinner could be cooked with the contents in the kitchen. The garden is 100% dog secure - what a nice change. Lovely owner who cold not have been more helpful

  • "Lovely house in a great location."

    The most well equipped home I have ever stayed in..the owners have thought of everything to make it the perfect stay. Spotlessly clean and beautiful throughout, it really is a home from home. The enclosed garden was peaceful with beautiful open views and perfectly safe for our dogs. The house is in a quiet and peaceful location, perfectly situated for exploring the Northumberland coast and countryside. Thank you for a wonderful holiday. We will definitely look forward to returning in the future.

  • "Had a lovely week here, couldn’t fault anything."

    We originally booked for 5 nights but were loving our stay so much we extended it to a full week. We have stayed in lots of holiday properties over the years, this was the best equipped we’ve ever stayed in, owners thought of everything, property is extremely dog & child friendly. It’s in a peaceful location with beautiful views, photographs don’t do it justice. It is a lovely property in a great location for walking into Rothbury, which is well worth a visit and lots to do in the surrounding areas, Alnwick, Bamburgh etc. Great communication from the owners during our stay & lovely welcome gifts on arrival. Thank you for a lovely week in your beautiful property, we’re looking forward to returning.

  • "The property was beautifully presented and maintained."

    The bed in the master bedroom was exceptionally comfortable [we intend to copy it]! Kitchen well equipped. Loved Rothbury, just a short walk from the house. my husband was particularly drawn to the marvellous pie shop. All in all, despite some inclement weather, a lovely stay.

The property

Harefield is a splendid holiday home based in the quaint town of Rothbury, Northumberland.

It is nestled between the Simonside Hills and Cragside.

This dog-friendly property has an open plan kitchen, dining and sitting area.

It is also close to amenities so is perfect for a family trip to explore the heart of Northumberland.

Once inside the front door, you have the choice of two spacious sitting rooms, both with large sofas.

The large sitting room has a homely gas fire for extra comfort.

There is an enclosed back garden with tables and chairs – and a decking area- where you will be able to enjoy the evening sunshine.

Upstairs, an airy landing (with views of Simonside) leads to three spacious bedrooms.

Close to your holiday base are a variety of shops, including the Co-op (which houses the post office), four lively pubs and several churches and an art gallery.

In Rothbury you will find the National Trust Cragside house and gardens, which is well worth a visit to view the lovely scenery and woodland walks.

You can end the day with a walk along the River Coquet before choosing a restaurant of your choice.

Alnwick is well known for its Castle and Gardens.

And don’t miss out on visiting the famous Barter’s books!

If you enjoy live music the Alnwick Brewery Company and tap room will keep you entertained – as will the home-brewed ales.

Morpeth is not too far away for another day out; Vindolanda (Roman remains) and Housesteads and the Sill are less than an hour’s drive as are Corbridge and Hexham.

Alnwick 11.8 miles; Alnmouth 16.1 miles; Morpeth 17.3 miles.

The capital of Coquetdale, Rothbury, lies on the north bank of the famous salmon and trout river, the Coquet, and is dominated by the heather clad Simonside Hills. It is an attractive, small market town and its proximity to Northumberland’s National Park ensures excellent local walking. Stone houses, typical of the region, line the town’s steep main streets and there is a Post Office, a good range of shops, and a variety of eateries to take advantage of. With a golf course, public tennis courts and cycle hire close by and a variety of great houses and gardens to explore, including the National Trust site of Cragside, Alnwick Castle (home of the Duke of Northumberland), Wallington Hall and a host of famous castles, this great location has plenty to offer. Hadrian’s Wall, Kielder Reservoir and Forest, and the sandy beaches and dunes of the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are also within easy driving distance.
