"My friend and I and my small dog enjoyed our weekend break very much."
We were especially impressed with the attention to detail, such as the Neal's Yard hand wash BioD washing up liquid and provision of pure wool blankets (my friend has poor circulation so feels the cold). The house is ideally located, within walking distance of the rail station, town centre and beach.
Though we didn't use them, the bottle of Prosecco and dog treats were a nice touch.
Thank you Virginia. I’m really glad you enjoyed your stay Anne

"Islestone is a beautiful house set in a quiet part of Berwick next to the hospital."
Everything we needed was there, and was perfect for the three of us, even impressing our 19 year old with the amount of room he had. We will definitely be back!
Thank you Mark. It was lovely to have you stay. You’re very welcome anytime. Anne

"I think guests should be told that the property is next to a large building site."
Thanks Amanda for your feedback. The building going up is Berwick’s new community hospital. It is the rear of the hospital that is opposite Islestone. Work is nearly complete - it will be handed to Northumbria healthcare at the end of this year. Most guests over the 2 years the work has taken - and as you found yourself when staying - have found it is not intrusive. At this stage it is largely the internal fit out. I’m sorry you found it problematic and I’m glad that generally you liked the cottage aside from that issue. Best wishes Anne

"Whilst the property is fine customers should be made aware that it overlooks a huge building site, not shown on website and also parking for this property is a nightmare."
The visitors parking permit only covers a small amount of parking spots and we had no option but to use a public car park which was far from ideal. Unfortunately i would not stay here again due in the main to the parking or rather the severe lack of it.
Thanks Tony for your feedback and I am sorry you found the parking difficult. Until the end of this year, when the building of Berwick’s new community hospital is complete parking is more restricted than normal. Once complete the temporary restrictions to parking outside the property will be removed and it will be possible to park opposite the front door once more. The visitors parking permit provided actually allows for parking in most of the town - there are only two residential areas near the train station that it does not cover. Best wishes Anne

"Had a wonderful stay at Islestone."
It’s a really lovely cottage, well equipped and spotless on arrival. In a great location for exploring lovely Berwick upon Tweed and just a short walking distance from the train station too. Would definitely stay there again! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"The information provided days before arrival included how to access the property which was very helpful."
The owner was easy to contact and quick to reply.
The house felt very much a ‘home from home’. Whilst we found one small convenience store nearby, larger stores are about a 20 minute walk away.
There’s plenty to do and see in Berwick : with the house being close to the station, we also used the bus and train connections to visit Bamburgh, Lindisfarne, Alnwick, and North Berwick for a boat trip to view gannets and puffins.

"Bathroom window would not shut , other wise great good location"
Thank you Michael, glad you enjoyed and sorry you didn’t get the bathroom window to close. It does close, but can be stiff as they are old sash and case ones. I opened it just before you came in as it was a warm day, and could have looked in to close it if I’d known. Best wishes Anne

"Our stay was disappointing."
No mirror in the main bathroom, no bedside light/table in the second bedroom. Only 2 saucepans, both of which had non-stick so scratched as to be unsafe to use. Most of the glasses provided were difficult to fit into the dish washer No privacy in the lounge which at the moment is overlooked by a building site - a blind would be good.
Thanks Ainslie, I’ve taken time to consider your feedback, which is out of sync with that which I generally get, I’ll take your comments onboard where appropriate.

"We stayed at Islestone in June and were very glad to be back there in October / November."
It's warm, welcoming and a very well equipped property in a convenient location. The owner is very helpful. Berwick is a lovely town to visit and from there it's easy to reach so many other places in both Scotland and England. For instance, you can book a ScotRail ticket to Edinburgh at a bargain price. The journey is less than an hour, and Berwick Railway Station is a short walk from the property.

Excellent location. Very comfy bed.Owner was very helpful at recommending a garage when we had problems with our car. Thanks.
Only reason marked it down on cleanliness was because the shower slipmat needed changing, otherwise everything else was perfect.
Thanks Debs. You are right, have changed the shower mat now - my fault - it should have been done earlier. Glad you had a good stay though. Anne

"A very enjoyable experience, cosy, comfortable and very well equipped and an unexpected welcome gift!"
Easy access to all amenities, shops, pubs, restaurants and public transport. Great for sightseeing and walking along the river path.
The only notable drawback being the garden which could easily be improved by the addition of a three foot fence and gate to the front section, thus making the garden enclosed and more dog friendly. We experienced several of the neighbours dogs wandering into the garden during our visit, whilst we’re dog friendly this was not relaxing due to us having our dogs with us.
Overall highly recommended and we are most likely to book a return visit!
