  • "Lovey cottage."

Very clean and tastefully decorated. Minor probem in that the kettle didn't work, but otherwise a great stay.

  • "This is the 2nd time we have stayed in this property."

It is in a good location, central to the town & within easy reach of beaches etc. The property is comfortable & well equipped. Unfortunately it still has a heating problem with only 3 out of the 6 radiators working effectively. This was an issue when we stayed 2 years ago & was highlighted in a review 12 months ago but still has not been rectified. I struggle to understand why because in winter it detracts from your enjoyment of the property & will lead me to seek alternatives in the future.

Great location for Alnwick centre and the beaches. The only things to maybe mention so it can be checked was the radiator in the main living room and Hallway only got luke warm but all the others got very hot also the main fuse blew once when using the grill/oven etc but everything else was spot on tbh.

  • "Fantastic location for exploring Northumberland with only being a few minutes drive to the A1."

Walking distance into Alnwick and lots of supermarkets close by for provisions. We had a lovely week with our two dogs and didn’t want to come home. We would stay here again. It had everything we needed.

  • "Fabulous little cottage in a great location for Alnwick and Northumberland as a whole."

For anyone reading earlier reviews, the heating now works well and was cosy for our November stay. There is plenty of parking and a fully enclosed garden which can be secured if you take a pair of padlocks (one for each gate) in the event you take bicycles or the like.

Also the fact that all electric equipment had working instructions often a problem in some properties.

  • "Pictures are misleading as to location."

Property is beside a noisy building site with construction vehicles parking outside and on the edge of a housing estate. Dirty marks on several walls disappointing that care was not taken to make sure it was well presented. Garden a bit neglected too. On a positive nice clean towels and beds, we enjoyed the area. Look out for the red squirrel that walks along the wall

  • "The Lodge is perfect for exploring Alnwick and surrounding areas."

Easy walking distance to the town and the castle/gardens. The cottage was clean and tidy and very comfortable, but ongoing maintenance needs some attention: the grass in the back "garden" was ankle high, the fridge needed defrosting, and the shower seal in the bathroom needed cleaning/replacing. Having sais that we still had a great time there.

Previous review say they felt it was cold but we found it spot on all radiators got red hot but the owners have taken the comment on board providing some oil radiators if needed. Would stay again if in that area only 10 mins drive to some great sandy beaches which the dogs loved

  • "Thank you, we had a good time at the lodge but was surprised to find the problem with the heating."

Thank you for providing the plug in heaters, but it would have been nice to have been forewarned. Hot water was not an issue, just bathroom often cold when needed warm. Difficult to understand the value of cost of 3 nights compared to other companies or quality B&Bs, Great fluffy towels, but sheets not of the same quality. Disappointing welcome pack - somewhat impersonal.Didn’t expect a full rubbish bin to deal with. Lovely lodge, great for 2 or 4 people. Great location. Would come back when no heating was needed, and hoped bins were checked before new visitors arrive.

  • "Having read a review on Sykes website which stated there was a problem with the heating at the Lodge - I phoned Sykes two days before my booking to ask if this problem had been resolved."

I was advised that there was no problem with the heating. After driving for 6 hours to reach the property - imagine my annoyance to discover the Lodge was cold and felt damp and indeed there was a problem with the heating. The radiator in the hall and the bedroom with the double bed did not come on at all. Then the hall radiator came on and the lounge radiator was cold. The bathroom and kitchen radiators appeared fine. The weather was cold and the Lodge felt cold. The next day I managed to contact Sykes local representative, who arranged for a member of the maintenance team to come out. He can confirm that radiators were not working. He did bring three electric oil heaters out and the place did thankfully get warm. The owners then visited on the Wednesday evening - without any prior notice - and brought with them a fan heater which was not needed. They acknowledged a problem with double bedroom being cold and also advised that there was a problem with the thermostats. I was also advised by the cleaner, that she had been asked to take the three heaters away after cleaning the property on our departure and she advised that she was not aware of a problem with the heating, but that she had also been asked to take away heaters from the Lodge when she cleaned before my arrival. I do think Sykes and the owners have a responsibility here for ensuring that the holiday home they are advertising is fit for purpose and adequately maintained and any issues raised - resolved. I am annoyed that Sykes told me there was no problem despite the written review and that the owners knowingly rent out the property with problems.

Thank you very much for your feedback and we're sorry that something went wrong - we will do our best to get this problem resolved as soon as possible. I hope you had an enjoyable stay in Alnwick and were able to visit some of the many attractions close to the property. Property Owner

  • "We were moved into this cottage due to major problems in the one we booked into."

On first impressions the Lodge was beautiful and unique. Lovely inside and out. However there was major issues with the heating system. The radiator did not work in the hall, only got slightly warm in the bedroom and lounge slightly warmer. This led to the hall, bedroom and bathroom being really cold. 12- 13 degrees on the hallway thermostat. So only half the radiators were working properly. Evenings were spent with blankets around our shoulders and on the bed. The bedroom smelt of wet plaster it was that cold. There are two thermostats, one in the bedroom and one in the hallway. We were constantly running between them both, boosting, to try and get the place warm. The shower was another issue. Lovely fixed head shower, however this is not good for people that don’t want to get their hair wet. There was a hand held shower but it was fixed just above the taps and facing outwards to the facing wall. If this was turned on to get to temperature, the power of the water hits the opposite wall potentially flooding the bathroom. So you had to stand in the bath holding it whilst it got warm, rinse yourself, turn it off, soap yourself and then turn it back on to rinse. Really not ideal and practical. The back door was really stiff to open and some force was needed. Children or the elderly would not be able to open this, so a hazard for fire safety.

About the location

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
