  • "A lovely cottage in the perfect location."

The owner was wonderfully welcoming and friendly and we knew if we needed anything we could ask him with no trouble at all. Everything we needed was there, beds and sofas comfy, cosy cottage and a very comfortable stay. The location is perfect. It was a pleasure to stay there and we would love to come back again.

  • "The region has so much to offer and we enjoyed our stay."

The cottage had wonderful views, even when it rained, and its central location made it an ideal base. Alnwick town, with all its ammenities was really close. The cottage itself is in a traditional style, but was comfortable and cosy. A comfortable bed was greatly appreciated. (Not always given) The spacious, private parking at the rear of the cottage was a real bonus and the Welcome Pack of wine, fresh eggs and biscuits a nice gesture. Thank you

  • "Our first trip to Northumberland and therefore our first stay at."

Appletree. We arrived late due to travel issues, but the house was warm, cosy and inviting. Andrew was around the next morning and was very welcoming. We felt very at home in the cottage and really enjoyed the wood burner in the evenings. Ted the mad springer was pleased to have a secure garden and he thoroughly enjoyed the walk across the field to the river. We would like to come back to the area again and we would definitely book Appletree again. Yvonne

  • "Really comfortable and clean, with good provision for catering and cleaning needs."

Friendly owner came to check on us the first night. Bedrooms spacious with comfortable beds (not always a given!) Bathroom/shower adequate if a little dated, and I didn't see a bath mat to catch drips. Location absolutely superb for access to all the usual Northumbrian sights. Cottage is on a fast road but traffic only really noticeable in the mornings. Lovely countryside views from the cottage. A very easy 10 mins drive into the centre of Alnwick or almost as quick to Alnmouth. It's by far the nicest cottage I have stayed in in recent years.

What a superb location: easy to access all the local attractions... Cragside, Lindisfarne, Bamborough, Amble, Warkworth, Castor and Alnwick yet the farm setting makes your feel as if you're in the countryside, lovely and peaceful. The cottage is really comfortable and clean, and the owners are helpful and friendly. We have a dog who likes to run and the paddock was perfect! Thank you for a lovely week.

  • "We had a great stay at Appletree."

The cottage is lovely & had everything we needed. The owner made us feel very welcome & responded really quickly when we needed help with something. Although the cottage is just off the road, we found it to be quiet & were not disturbed by any noise at all. We were happy to walk along the pavement by the road into Alnwick & we loved the walk opposite the cottage to the river. Northumberland is beautiful & the cottage is in a great location for exploring the area.

  • "We thought the house and its position were lovely."

However, we have been regularly self catering for over 50 years and were a little taken aback by the lack of simple items like salt, pepper, sugar and milk. We were also surprised at the lack of a washing up bowl, granted there was a dishwasher but only one (1) tablet. Even more disappointing was the fact that there was a lot of dog hairs in both the kitchen and lounge. Nice ship spoilt by a haporth of tar.

Hi John Thank you for choosing apple tree cottage for you stay in Northumberland. We are glad that you liked the cottage and the location, which we think is great for touring Northumberland. We thank you for your very valuable feedback and can confirm the washing bowl has now been introduced, we didn't think it was necessary, as there is a dishwasher at the property, but it's there now. We have also instructed the housekeeping staff to supply more dishwasher tables. We were unaware of dog hair in the kitchen, but would have been more than happy to come in with the cleaners and rectify the situation . Again we thank you for all your kind comments and feedback. We would be very happy to welcome you back on your next visit. Kind regards Best wishes. Andrew Property Owner

  • "A warm and comfortable cottage with plenty of parking outside."

Nicely decorated with a good sized living room big enough for 6 people to relax in for the evening. It would be possible to walk into Alnwick, but part of the walk would be along a busy road so we took the car. We enjoyed the walk across the field opposite the cottage and down to the river. The cottage is close to a main road, we were aware of a little traffic noise during the day but it was quiet at night. Our only difficulty was that the fridge door had no shelves so we had to buy milk in 1 pint containers as the larger ones leaked when laid down in the fridge.

Hi Frances. Thank you for your kind words and feedback about your stay in apple tree cottage. We are very happy that you found the property and facility's to your liking. Apple tree cottage is in full summer bloom now and the apples are coming along very nice ,it's promising a bumper crop this year. Guests are very welcome to help there selves. We thank you for your comments and suggestions and can confirm that the cottage benefits from a brand new fridge now. Thank you again. We do hope to see you again in the future. • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

The cottage is ideally situated for exploring the coast, islands and castles/houses of Northumberland. The close proximity of supermarket and M&S foods was brilliant for self catering Owner very helpful and pleasant but not intrusive. There were one or two very minor things we mentioned to him, a dripping tap and a light bulb replacement for example. A1068 is just outside the house and is quite busy during the day, but not so at night.

About the location

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
