  • "The house was lovely and very clean and comfortable."

Nice quiet location but with a pleasant walk or easy drive into Alnwick. We had a really lovely holiday.

  • "Can't leave a true review because we didn't even get the cottage we had booked 3 bed Courtyard cottage Alnwick, We were told it had leak but at the same time we arrived at the "alternative" accommodation, which happened to be next door another couple were moving into the one we should have been in, they knew nothing about a leak (surprised not ) I'm guessing because they were booked for 6 nights and me only 3 they got priority apart from I had booked and fully paid a full 3 weeks before they did on booking."

Com. I did contact Northumbria cottages (Sykes) but only got a bog std reply, because it was to late to get anywhere else we stayed in the 1 bedroom Mews cottage which wasn't ideal because I had to sleep on a sofa bed the owner assumed we were a couple and not friends. After that it just went more downhill it was fly infested I had to go and buy spray as my first job just to make it habitable the bathroom was so grubby and the rest was basic like a student bedsit. All in all it didn't help us enjoy the 4 days we had up in Alnwick and I definitely wouldn't book a cottage with that owner again she lied from start to finish and didn't careless about us. I'll also add even though Sykes are taking an interest now because of ongoing issues it's a little late in the day hence the 6/10 score

  • "Courtyard cottage has the makings of a great cottage - warm, quiet with easy parking and very close to bus stops delivering us along scenic routes to all parts of the coastal footpath."

It meant we could base ourselves here for a walking holiday and use public transport and still walk to a range of pubs or restaurants, supermarkets and all that lovely Alnwick has to offer. It's a perfect location for the area. The owner was friendly, helpful and responsive to a few problems we encountered. However, a few changes are needed for the cottage to fulfill it's potential and I write this feedback as an honest critique to someone starting out in the holiday let business. The outside area could be fabulous, but is currently an unwelcoming weed-filled space and not a good first impression. The kitchen/dining area is good but there is simply not enough cutlery for 4 people (3 knives) and other kitchen equipment was only just adequate and the minimum when we did want to cook a meal. Eg, No corkscrew. No pan lids. The cottage is clean but not thoroughly cleaned. The lounge side tables are bouncy rattan-topped so we couldn't safely put down a cup or wine glass. The main bedroom is great but the 2 smaller bedrooms are very minimally furnished. Bedside reading lamps would be a good addition. The main bathroom door is half glass with full view of the toilet and bath, and there are no curtains in the bathroom or ensuite windows. These are ok if you're holidaying with close friends and family but not so relaxing if you like privacy. The bathroom door needs obscure glass or a blind fitting. This cottage could be fantastic and I hope the owner accepts feedback in good faith and makes the necessary changes so that it is more comfortable for future visitors.

  • "A wonderfully warm comfortable cottage, simply but tastefully appointed and presented."

Quiet location close to amenities but also country and beach walks. Great communication from the host and from Sykes, we and our three dogs were made to feel very welcome. Highly recommend.

  • "The house was dirty, a present had been left in the toilet, a curtain pole fell down."

The heating wasn't switched on and it was in the middle of December!!!! No lighting outside the house, so grateful that mobiles have torch lights. The house next-door had been broken into. Owner agreed to refund and has since ignored phone calls. Even Sykes cant get hold of the owner, however Sykes are still advertising this on their website. I have contacted Sykes again to explain I am not happy with the outcome. I would like this review to be shown against this property. If it isn't I will look to take further action and I will ensure this review is seen.

About the location

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike; for even more excitement, the enchanted world of Lilidorei is also available at Alnwick Gardens, offering seasonal events and plenty of fun for little ones of your group. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
