  • "Comfortable, spacious accommodation in a great coastal location."

Overall we were happy with the accommodation, which was clean and comfortable. However, the furniture, fittings and equipment are showing signs of hard use and could certainly do with a "refresh" sooner rather than later. Lack of a toilet in the first floor bathroom is also somewhat inconvenient.

  • "Beach house was generally clean and comfortable and well placed to explore all the area has to offer."

We enjoyed walks from the door, sometimes using the bus to return. The small museum in the ferryman's hut gave an insight into Alnmouths history. Parking in Garden terrace is tricky as it's very narrow. The weather was mixed but overall we had a good week.

  • "Well equipped property , kitchen is small and some of cupboards are a bit musty ,the ultra small toilet downstairs has a broken toilet seat that comes of when you lift it up and need replacing, the master Bedroom with king-size bed the mattress is very hard and uncomfortable and could really do with replacing the single bedroom with shower and bath the door when shut wouldn't open from outside and our son got stuck in it twice I managed to tighten grub screw twice to get him out the shower room it needs replacement grub screw, the outside garden seating area is very untidy and needs a spruce up , parking is ok if you get a space at the park but car gets covered in bird poo ."

..our biggest complaint was a couple of locals one in the sun inn pub stated we son in-law should be drinking a Yorkshire beer as that's were he is from but in a smarmy way and wasn't pleasant to us but the sun inn pub staff were excellent hosts ..then an old woman on the beach her large dog ran at our very small dog and our dog felt intimidated and snapped at her dog and she was very abusive and swearing in front of our son and threatened to kick our dog to death if she sees it without a lead again on the beach and my son in law challenged her behaviour and was told to go back to Yorkshire where you belong so that made us feel very unwelcome about alnmouth but all in all we had a great time and despite all the negatives the beach house is a great house and super comfy sofas and very quiet and would recommend to anyone visiting it to park next to park not in the street as is a very narrow street.

  • "We loved this house."

Great location to feel away from it all. House clean with comfortable living space and bedrooms ,good wifi in all areas. Kitchen is compact but well equipped. House felt welcoming and relaxed. We enjoyed the outside seating area - a day-long sun trap with parasol provided. Managed to park easily ,close to the house at bottom of the road ,adjacent to small park. Generally an overall excellent stay. Would definitely re-book.

  • "We had a lovely week at The Beach House."

The location was excellent, a short walk to the village centre, park and beach. The living room and bedrooms were are very spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and provided everything we needed. We had a couple of chilly evenings and needed to use the heating which was very efficient and quickly warmed the house. There were a few small things that would have made the stay 5 stars, better lighting in the dining room, more mirrors in the bedrooms and the filter in the hoover needed to be replaced but otherwise we really enjoyed our stay and the previous reviews should not put people off booking this house.

  • "Four cracked window panes in living room window."

Unkempt garden with green mouldy patio. Cobwebs hanging from living room and bedroom light fittings. Poorly stocked kitchen. Broken cutlery holder in the dishwasher. The bins were full when we arrived nowhere to put our rubbish.

Hi Judith - I'm sorry you did not find the property to your liking. I have made adjustments to my cleaning arrangements and will check the patio this week as not usually had any problems with this. Regarding the bins as you know over the Xmas period the bin dates change and unfortunately sometimes guests miss the revised dates. [n.b. • "We had a great holiday in Alnmouth and the Beach House was a good location for accessing the beach."

It was a comfortable lounge area for the family to relax in and was nice and warm. However we had a few issues with general cleanliness that should have been easy to maintain. There was mouldy cutlery in the dishwasher; the ocean was unclean and the carpet had a lot of dirty stains on our arrival which was a little off putting. The dishcloths were very old and tatty too - they need to be replaced. A couple of us also felt itchy and had 1-3 bite marks on our bodies and we wondered if this could be bed bugs - but I couldn't be sure. Overall a great house but would be reluctant to revisit unless I could be sure these things were rectified.

Hi Jane. I'm glad you had a good holiday in Alnmouth. I will look into your issues with my housekeeping team before the next booking. Moreover new carpets downstairs are being arranged for the 2024 season. Thanks again for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "Couldn't ask for a better location - straight out of the house and onto the river and beach for glorious walks enjoying the views and nature."

The house has good-sized bedrooms, the lounge is very comfortable with the sun streaming into it every morning, and the central heating was efficient. We were surprised to see the open fire has gone, as it's still mentioned in the description, but there's an electric fire instead which (though less romantic) was probably a good deal easier to light and warm the lounge through. The beds were comfy, the kitchen had everything we needed, and there was even a bed provided for the dogs. It's a bit of a pain that dogs aren't allowed upstairs, as our two are used to sleeping with us and weren't very impressed at being kept downstairs, but I can understand that the owners don't want to risk muddy paws on furnishings. All in all, we found it good value for money and loved it!

  • "Although the property was clean and comfortable, and in a good position in the village."

We found that it was somewhat " tired ", and in need of some freshening up. The lounge curtains, for example, could do with re-hanging/sorting out, and the " enclosed garden" situation, could be better dealt with.

  • "We were delighted with our stay at Beach House."

It's a beautiful house in a convenient location. Very comfortable and tasteful throughout. As the cook I was particularly pleased to find the kitchen had everything I could want. We were very lucky with the weather and the front garden was a delightful place to sit, getting all day sun. A really peaceful place to be. Inside too where it was very quiet. All in all even better than expected - especially the first rate TV and the useful extra freezer.

  • "The property is well equipped and the lounge is a very pleasant room."

Location for beach, shops and restaurants is excellent. Whilst not inaccurate in the listing the WC facilities are inadequate for a number of people. The WC on the ground floor is far smaller than one on an aircraft! The bathroom facilities are well below current day expectations. It is nice to sit out in the garden but should be maintained far better. Sweeping the area would be a start and removing the weeds would make a big improvement. Parking can be an issue particularly when spaces are taken up by a neighbour's skip.

  • "Lovely period property with a homely feel."

Spacious, perfect location in Alnmouth and comfortably furnished. Having been worried about previous reviews, I was surprised at both the decor and the cleanliness of the property. The house is 180 years old and exudes period charm and character. We have stayed in various accommodation in Alnmouth over a number of years and this house ticked all the boxes for us.

Hi Jane - Thanks very much for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed Alnmouth and our house. I look forward to passing on the positive feedback to our hard working local housekeeping team who will greatly appreciate this. Property Owner

  • "Alnmouth is beautiful."

This property is in an ideal spot for the beach. However, though this is a very nice property, it feels a bit grubby and tired. Threadbare carpet in lounge covered with a couple of rugs. Cooker not clean. Towels need replacing as very thin. Everywhere feels that it could do with a good clean. Rattling pipes when toilet flushed. Enclosed outdoor space is not really enclosed as dogs can easily access the next garden and neighbour using unfenced access rights. I mistakenly saw that the house has two bathrooms and assumed wrongly that both bathrooms would contain a toilet!! One bathroom has no toilet - 2nd toilet is in the rear hall. Very very small loo space - only to be used in emergency! my mistake. I should have read the description more thoroughly! I will be visiting Alnmouth again for sure but not this property.

Hi Lynne - I’m glad the location worked for you and you think the property is nice. However I’m sorry that there were certain things you were disappointed in. There has been a deep clean in early May and I am asking NCCC/Sykes to inspect the property themselves after the next full changeover and I will endeavour to rectify the issues highlighted. As you say I purchased the new rugs recently to hide the two threadbare areas of the carpet until I can replace the carpet after the summer season. The oven (glass) door needs cleaning and will be attended to before the next guests. As regards the garden it’s a quirk of the 170 year old property that it shares a front path (with number 2) and hence full restriction for dogs can only occur across the 2 gardens. We do ask all guests to monitor their dogs while in the garden for this reason – something I will add to the NCCC website for clarity. Indeed the WC issue will be made clearer in the description. Thanks for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "The house itself was in a lovely place."

Really nice to be near the sea however it was incredibly dirty. The oven was awful and the beds felt like the bedding has not been washed. We had to vac the entire house when we got there and dust. Some of the dust looked like it had been there a long time. The kitchen was grubby and the plates and cups needed a good clean before we were able ti use them. The house could do with a really good deep clean!

I’m really sorry that the standard of cleanliness was not up to the standard you expected and it impacted your holiday experience. I work with a local housekeeper and their team. They adhere to high standards and my experience so far has always been positive. However, as you suggest I will put in place a deep clean in advance of future guests including carpet cleaning. For future reference my housekeeper’s contact details are included in the joining instructions and they can be contacted on arrival if additional cleaning or other issues need addressing. When mealtimes call, the kitchen has all of the home-from-home amenities needed to cook up a storm, which can be enjoyed in the dining area.
