• "The Coach House is situated in an idyllic setting."

  It is quiet, peaceful and surrounded by several acres of beautiful grounds. Numerous varieties of birds visit the garden. A nature lovers paradise. It is in an area with easy access to local towns, several National Trust properties and many historical sites. The property itself is well laid out, clean, well equipped and welcoming. Highly recommended, in fact, we have already booked to return next year.

• "This was what I imagined a country cottage to be like."

  Individual and quirky. The 3 of us had a comfortable stay. The welcome pack gave us joy. In spite of the weather, we still managed to sit outside in the garden and soak up the peace and quiet and enjoy the garden. We also had an enjoyable evening walk around the extensive grounds and down to the river. The cottage is well located for exploring east and west Northumberland.

• "Lovely cottage."

  Very comfortable and had everything we needed. Great area to explore. We could easily have filled 2 weeks. Fantastic countryside. Will be back at some point in the future.

• "We had an enjoyable stay at the Coach House."

  The setting was excellent, making it tranquil and quiet. The property was warm, cosy and very relaxing. The kitchen was excellent and the welcome pack was superb. Situated just outside of Riding Mill it offered easy access to the A69 and the wider visitor attractions on offer around Northumberland, but was also an ideal place to enjoy a walk or just chill surrounded in Mother Nature. We will certainly return to this property in the future.

• "We had lovely stay at the Coach House."

  The cottage was cosy, warm and well equipped. The Christmas decorations made it feel very festive and the goodie pack was most welcome. We enjoyed walking the grounds and local countryside. Thank you!

• "After a long and tiring drive we were delighted when we opened the door to a toasty warm cottage decorated with a twinkling xmas tree."

  It’s a charming cottage, beautifully clean and lovely furnishings. Kitchen is well equipped and bright and cheerful. Only downside was the single bed mattress my adult daughter said was uncomfortable. Apart from that it was a very enjoyable stay. Would definitely return.

• "Unfortunately there is an ongoing complaint I made regarding my stay at this property."

  I made this complaint in my Sykes account on the Sykes website on the 3rd October 2025. I have not received a response to this date 16th October 2025. I therefore am unable to provide a true review.

  Thank you for your feedback. Your complaint was raised after your departure however it was a regional outage rather than an issue at the property. We didn't realise that this impacted your stay as the power was turned back on one hour later. The Sykes Team Property Owner

• "An absolutely beautiful cottage."

  Everything was very clean and well looked after. An amazing basket of goodies left along with milk in fridge. Bed lovely and comfy. Only thing I would recommend inside would be a couple of hooks on bathroom door to hang clothes whilst in shower/bath. Will definitely stay again if in the area. Thank you.

• "The property is in dire need of some proper attention."

  Lots of windows are sealed shut so can't be used, this would make it quite unbearable during hotter weather. This is also a safety issue as in the event of a fire you can't escape from these windows if needed. On the opposite side, some windows couldn't be shut properly and big gaps around kitchen door causing draft. Smoke alarm in main bedroom was beeping at night waking us up, probably in need of a new battery. Not sure why a smoke alarm would be in a bedroom. Toilet stank constantly. Some of the towels provided smelt funny, bathroom mat dirty, bedding in smaller room stained and not appropriate for the bed. This was a heavy double duvet on a single bed, way to heavy for a little one. Beds not so comfy as the pillows were way to thick and mattress in small room sunk in the middle. Bits of dirt on carpet that had been missed during cleaning. Lots of mixed styles of furniture, some unnecessary, some items of furniture were so rickety they couldn't be used. Could do with a simplified, unified re furnish. No washing machine which was painful with a little one, would have preferred a washing machine over a dishwasher. Had soap put in washing up bottle, so not useful. Kitchen not as user friendly as expected. Decor in need of a freshen up throughout the cottage. All in all we feel that the positive thing about this cottage is it's peaceful location.

We want every guest to feel comfortable and well‑looked‑after, so I take your comments seriously. I’d like to address a few of the points you raised: • Windows & ventilation: Some windows are intentionally secured for safety and insurance compliance, but they should all be functioning as designed. We have now made sure every room does have at least one window that opens • Smoke alarm: A beeping alarm usually indicates a low battery, and I apologise for the disturbance this caused. The alarms are placed according to current safety guidance, but I will ensure batteries are replaced and the system is re‑checked. We have also supplied an extra set of batteries for any future eventualities. • Housekeeping issues: Towels, bedding, and carpets should always be fresh and clean. I’m sorry this wasn’t your experience. I’ve raised this with the cleaning team and will be reviewing our processes to prevent this happening again. • Toilet odour: This is not something we’ve encountered before, but I’ve asked a plumber to investigate to ensure everything is in good working order. • Furniture & décor: I appreciate your thoughts on the mix of styles and comfort. I’m currently reviewing the furnishings with a view to simplifying and refreshing the cottage, including mattresses and pillows. • Kitchen & equipment: Many guests appreciate the dishwasher, but I understand that needs vary—especially when travelling with little ones. I’ll take your comments into account as we have now installed a washing machine for guests to use. I’m glad you enjoyed the peaceful location, and I truly appreciate you highlighting areas where we can improve. Your feedback helps us continue to make the cottage a welcoming place for future guests. Property Owner

• "The cosy, well-equipped Coach House - in its beautiful, tranquil setting - was a wonderful place to escape to."

  We enjoyed the lovely goodies in the Welcome basket - a very thoughtful touch. which was much appreciated. The location enabled us to explore the fantastic Northumbrian countryside and many places of interest all within reasonable travelling distance. The places we didn't manage to get to during the week warrant another stay at some point in the future. We would certainly love to return.

• "Lovely Cottage and peaceful surroundings well equipped kitchen and comfortable beds."

  Just be aware that the bath is difficult for an older person to get into. There is nothing to get hold of while stepping over the side. A grab handle would be an advantage. Also the shower head is not adjustable and the spray does not point down. The main bedroom windows do not open because they have been painted while closed and there was a lot of condensation in the mornings If these points were addressed the cottage would have earned 10/10

• "If you would like to stay in a peaceful, comfortable cottage which been lovingly refurbished, then this is the place for you."

  It is so tranquil yet within reach of a lot of interesting places to visit. Regarding previous visitors' feedback, the heating is absolutely fine, the best way to control it is with the living room thermostat. It's true the wifi is flaky as the signal comes from the main house. This cottage is new so I have no doubt they will look to make the wifi even better. Anyway, it's good to get away from it sometimes! There is a very generous welcome pack. Thank you very much. We loved our stay.

  The location though in the countryside and a really quiet spot is also within easy reach of .. well anywhere in that part of Northumberland that you might want to visit. The owners are to be congratulated for the obvious hard work and thought that has been applied for this lovely cottage.

• "We had a few problems - the front door was very difficult to open and shut and the plug in the bathroom sink malfunctioned the whole week."

  The heating was very hit or miss - and the internet was largely absent. But the cottage was very comfortable and the people down at the house were lovely. It's a great place to stay if you want to explore the wall .......and Hexham and Corbridge are interesting places to visit in their own right.

• "The property is lovely, has everything you could need, The garden is beautiful and so peaceful."

  I would have liked a comfortable outdoor seating as well as the table and chairs which are great for eating out but not if you want to relax and read. It’s out of the way, if you want to go out in the evening Someone will need to be designated driver or get taxi but we enjoyed the relaxed feeling of the place. Some lovely villages to visit especially Corbridge. Bamburgh castle and sea houses worth a visit but just over an hour away. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

• "Super location, so quite and peaceful."

  Views from the cottage of the gardens are lovely. The cottage is furnished throughout to a very high standard. The whole place was absolutely immaculately clean. Beds and bedding fresh, spotless and very comfortable as were the couches and arm chair in the lounge. The kitchen has everything you need. The welcome basket with the bread, tea, milk, butter and jams etc. was a lovely surprise and very much appreciated. So much to see and do close by and such brilliant trails and tracks to walk. We will definitely return and stay again.
