  • "We had a lovely stay."

The location is great. Perfect for our needs. The cottage is beautiful and very well decorated. We stayed Fri to Mon, and the trains were not an issue to us. In the dark, I wouldn't have liked to walk to the village of Belford as the pavement is not cleared or well maintained on the road. However, this didn't really impact us as we were too tired after our days out to be bothered with the pub. We will likely book again. Thanks

We had a brilliant stay even though it rained constantly but with the log burner we were more than happy to be inside. 15 min drive to the nearest beach for walking the dog. We will definitely be returning soon xxx 10/10

Only thing I would warn anyone about is the train track is very close and you can hear the trains pass but this didn’t bother us.

  • "A lovely cottage, beautifully maintained and decorated."

Very comfy and cosy and ideally situated to explore Northumberland. We had a super time visiting favourite spots and finding new places. The cottage had all we needed and was charming. One negative - contrary to other reviews, trains DO run through the night (freight trains and the overnight sleeper). These woke up at least some of our party in the small hours most nights. This is mentioned in the description but not really emphasized, sadly.

  • "This is a beautiful cottage, clean, well equiped, well loved, and fairly priced, but for us it is in the wrong location."

We were surprised to find the high speed, electrified, east coast main train line less than 50 metres from the cottage. London-to-Edinbugh trains travelling at over 100mph was not what we expected. The heavier freight trains made the bed shake. We did have a great time seeing all the local sights, but didn't enjoy returning to the cottage. My constructive feedback is for Sykes Cottages to make it a lot clearer re the trains. I am aware that many past residents have found this place fantastic, as it is a truely beautiful property. But, if we had known all the details we would probably have gone elsewhere, even if it had been more expensive.

We had a super time and found everything how we expected it. We love watching the world (and especially the trains) go by over a morning cup of tea on the bench in the garden, the comfort of the cottage and the opportunities for many wonderful visits and walks in the region: Bamburgh, Beadnell, Warkworth Castle, Barter Books, Spittal Promenade, Seahouses and so much more.

  • "Had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at holida hoose."

Beautifully presented cottage and impeccably clean. Right next to the east coast mainline but surprisingly quiet from inside the cottage. Everything you need in the kitchen, cosy log burners in both downstairs rooms and separate utility and downstairs loo a godsend. Maybe needs mattress toppers available for those that prefer a softer mattress but that was our only small issue. Would definitely stay again

  • "The cottage is lovely, nice, clean and bright."

Nicely furnished to a high standard, the kitchen is well equipped (albeit no frying pan) and the utility room with washing machine is a bonus. The Living room too is a good size, nice and comfortable. Stone floors all downstairs add to the experience of stopping in such a property. Upstairs, again all rooms are nice and airy, nicely furnished for what they need to be. The proximity to the level crossing was no issue, as the sound of trains soon fades into the background, so don't let that put anyone off staying here. All in all, the 3 of us (a couple and Spaniel) had a relaxing stay. The cottage is in a good location for exploring all that Northumberland has to offer. This was our 6th Christmas/New year in the area, first time staying at Holida Hoose. We'd definitely book again, but perhaps in the summer months. The only issue we had was the temperature of the cottage. It was cold, upstairs especially so. The heating provided did little more than take off the chill. The log burners seemed to be relied on for extra heat, and at £5 a bag of logs, it felt a cheeky way of getting the guests to subsidise the heating bill. The hot water too out of all taps wasn't anything more than 'off cold'. To wash the dishes we had to boil the kettle. We are not new to Bamburgh in December, having stopped in different properties, all with log burners, but we've never needed them for heating, only as an added extra. The cottage overall is lovely, nothing stopped us from enjoying our break, we simply adapted. Yes I appreciate the cost of everything going up, but perhaps loosen the purse strings a little on the heating/hot water?

  • "We've just enjoyed a lovely week in Holida Hoose."

For us it was a perfect location as rural but close to the village where we did walk to on a couple of occasions to the cafe and also belford farm shop. The cottage is right next to the level crossing so you will hear the trains but this wasn't a problem to us at all. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, well equipped and beautifully furnished. One thing that was particularly good is being able to cosy up at night and watch films etc on a decent sized TV without needing a magnifying glass - which we have found to be the case in other cottages we have stayed in. Thank you for a fantastic week away from it all. We wish we were still there and would love to return again next year to this beautiful part of the world.

  • "A great cottage which was very clean and well maintained."

Everywhere was finished to an excellent standard and well equipped. You were right next to the railway line and the trains were regular but it didn't bother us and stopped around 11pm so it wasn't all night. The only niggle I had was the mattress was too firm for me and gave me backache but my husband said it was fine. It was a great location but you were not in the village and this was about a mile and a half and there wasn't anything much around you but countryside which we loved. It was only 5 miles to the beach and you were close to the Holy Island, Seahouses. We will be returning sometime in the future.

Little things like having an airer and access to a washing line and pegs was great due to the numerous beach visits. We knew it was near the railway line and enjoyed the trains. Not an issue overnight as they do stop! The cottage is very well situated for the beach, historical sites or for heading into the Cheviots. We loved it!

The cottage was as per photos advertised, we have the same kitchen which is what attracted me to it in the first place. Real home from home, sadly we didn’t find the beds very comfortable but guess that’s a very personal and pot luck in a holiday rental. Great base to explore all the Northumberland coastline has to offer. Our new 1 year old Cockapoo loved the beaches, so much freedom. Yes the trains are a bit loud initially but you do get used to them :-)

  • "Holida Hoose is well located for Bamburgh and the coastal route, It easily accessible from A1."

House is recently well renovated but lacks some finishing touches such as dressing table & lighting and decent sized mirrors in the bedrooms. Also be aware that the trainline mentioned in the description is not only very close (20 yards away) but is also the busy main line for London/Newcastle/Edinburgh and has express trains travelling through at top speed which rattle the house plus a fair amount of long (18 carriage) goods trains. By the end of the week stay it was becoming less noticeable but not ideal for an idyllic country break unless you are a train spotter.

  • "Very good location , with excellent access to Bamburgh castle and Holy Island."

The house is well laid out, equipped snd very warm and comfortable. We appreciate that under today’s crazy power costs, care must be taken. The house itself was comfortably warm. However, the thermostat on the hot water supply has perhaps been over- adjusted; the water was never more than tepid. This did not affect the shower, which was acceptably warm. A small detail which did not spoil our holiday.

The cottage itself is equipped to a high standard and full of all the mod-cons you'd expect in a newly renovated property. The fact it's near a main train line isn't an issue at all and adds to the atmosphere, we were a little concerned but it wasn't an issue at all. My only comment is that it seemed like housekeeping were a little too eager to enter the property on the Monday but I guess at least they're efficient. We would happily stay at Holida House again :)

Was very comfortable for a family of four + doggie : the decor is fantastic and the wood burners are must : they really make an evening. It could do with an airer to dry clothes inside if not so sunny out , a coffee maker of some sort and some drawers in the bedrooms , but other than that it is very comfortable and well equipped .
