  • "We had a great week in a perfect location."

The house was dog friendly so you don’t expect it to be 100% slick and span, but it was comfortable and the owners have thought of everything to ensure a rewarding stay. Just a couple of maintenance things to mention, a couple of the strip lighting tubes under the kitchen units( concealed lighting) need changing- I have the same tubes at home and they don’t last very long. Also the hot water is an issue, it takes forever to get hot water in the kitchen and when it comes, it is at a very low pressure. Also I couldn’t fathom out how to get the bathroom towel radiator to work- thankfully we had dry weather so I was able to hang towels on the washing line outside. These are really small gripes to inform the owner, as overall the house and garden are brilliant, and I’d love to book again and wouldn’t hesitate to highly recommend!

  • "The owner clearly takes pride in the cottage and the well-chosen pictures on the walls add to the comfortable atmosphere and feel of the house."

It is sited next to the sea in a quiet village and looks out over fields. We would be very happy to return

  • "Fabulous cottage with really comfortable beds, pillows and sofas which make a huge difference to any stay away from home."

So quiet and peaceful with a bird paradise outside the back door. Amongst others we saw wrens, buzzards and an owl flying towards us. Within easy reach of a multitude of touristy things to do as well as a beautiful beach just across the road. We have never been to Northumberland before but it has quickly become a firm favourite especially when you have such a wonderful base, thank you.

Kitchen knives a bit blunt. All minor comments

  • "We arrived after dark at 4pm on 31st December."

There were no working lights at the property & it was freezing cold - the radiators were set to 10 degrees & were cold. We reported the issues immediately to the number provided & did get a call back & a call from Chester? This was after my husband had found the fuse box & flicked a fuse to get the electricity back on. I spent the rest of the evening in my coat, and when we tried to cook a meal, the oven didn't work and there was no hot water. The plates were that cold, ice-cream would not have melted - I had to boil a kettle, wash the plates to warm them for food. I went to bed at 9:15pm to get warm, therefore missing my New Years Eve. The following day it was warmed through but still no oven or hot water. I reported this. On 2nd Jan the electrics started to short again & the fuse tripped every 45/60 seconds. I reported this. My husband did his best to isolate the electrical fault, identify the problem for the oven & hot water by reading the instruction booklets which negated the reason for the trip - that he could relax. We left early and didn't stay the last night. Throughout I received polite and conciliatory responses**, but this did not make up for the issues we were experiencing. I have rented many times in this country and abroad - I have always been pleased with my trips. This is the exception because while the bungalow was clean, well-stocked and ideally situated, the living conditions made us miserable. Your wine and biscuits were well meant I'm sure, but we would have preferred (especially for the price we paid) the luxury of light, heat, cooking facilities and hot water. We have left your gifts behind. ** I have today heard back from the complaints department – they need to learn listening skills not just broke record technique. I will never use Sykes Cottages again & will not recommend them.

Garden was lovely for my 2 dogs.

  • "Very roomy bungalow with just about everything required to make for a comfortable stay."

The views to the rear are fantastic for watching wildlife, and give the feeling of total privacy. A nice collection of books and games for those days that the weather won't allow outdoor activities. The beach is only a three minute walk through the snicket in the corner, and unlike nearby Alnmouth is almost empty of people which pleased us to be honest. Boiler is a great base for exploring Northumberland, with Alnmouth, Seahouses, and Bamburgh only a short drive away. We also enjoyed a day out in Gragside near Rothbury which is only 30 mins drive. We highly recommend The Running Fox artisan cafe in Longhoughton for delicious home cooked meals. On the whole we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Boulmer and will definitely be coming back soon.

  • "This is the second time we have stayed at this property."

It is very comfortable with everything you need and the location is great for the beach. One thing only to mention - I am allergic to feathers and most of the duvet and pillows are feather ones. I had to sleep in a single bed in another room in order to find non-feather bedding. It might be an idea to get rid of the feather ones as many people have allergies. We have stayed before and I moved into another room then too for the same reason. The small window to the bathroom won't close which is fine for airing it, but not so good for security.

  • "Our 3rd stay."

Lovely bungalow - home from home - thank you to the owners. It’s in a quiet village and is close to the sea for beach/coastal path walks. We will definitely return again.

  • "Good location, comfortable stay."

Could do with a bit of TLC and redecoration. eg bathroom window didn't open, fridge shelves cracked and where the new electric radiators had been fitted (over two years ago) there had been no effort to make good the area where the old rads were.
