  • "We loved the cottage, the views were amazing and it was so cosy."

The only thing that let it down was a faulty shower. Ran mostly cold with the odd burst of hot water but it definitely got the blood pumping! Everything else was great but this needs looking at.

  • "We noticed a big difference in cleanliness this year after coming for many years I used to have to clean the loo and get rid of the dust but not this time it smelt beautiful and clean and so much clutter had gone ."

Wi-Fi and a big new television were very welcome . The sofa still has a sticky patch on it that you can’t sit on and it was like that in May 2022 which I had mentioned still the same in Oct 2022 when we went and still the same Oct 2023 . It’s also is too low to get out off . The thing that lets this lovely cottage down is the bathroom , no enamel on the bath looks dirty . We have friends in bamburgh so get a shower there . I can’t understand why this hasn’t been addressed . The outside also needs attention it looks unkept only needs rubbish moving and weeding . Otherwise it’s a beautiful cottage and lovely position .

  • "The cottage is in a stunning location with breathtaking views."

It’s a comfy traditionally built stone built cottage with additional modernisation. It was good to have Wi-Fi and we were informed that connection was better in some rooms than others . Plenty of space for a small family. We enjoyed the coal fire experience on a couple of nights all provided by the hosts. Lots of crockery and cooking utensils, coffee machine provided as well as cooker, microwave. Decent sized under bench fridge and freezer. Very comfy beds. Plenty of sofas and chairs. Board Games and CD’s are available. We used the garden area for boules and games most days. We met the friendly hosts on day 1 and were given lots of helpful tips about the cottage and the immediate area. We were able to be relaxed and have an amazing time. We hope to be lucky enough to go back . We loved Budle Cottage.

  • "What the cottage lacks in facilities it more than makes up for in position and views."

This was our third visit, with a five year gap, there were improvements, the place had been decorated, the shower worked and the vacuum cleaner had been replaced. I suffer from arthritis & struggled with the tired old settees and the steps out the door. The furnishings are old and don’t match which I suspect is because dogs are allowed but that does not concern us as we go because the hosts are really nice (didn’t seem them this time) and they let us come with three dogs (permission asked) and we respect their property and Budle Bay is just the most amazing place. The kitchen/diner/living area is so big we live in that area and keep the dogs there and don’t allow them access the the rest of the cottage which means a lot less cleaning for us on departure. The views are stunning and we walking on the beach every morning watching the wildlife and enjoying the quiet. Stunning place.

  • "The cottage is in a beautiful place, with beautiful views out to the sea, ..."

The cottage is in a beautiful place, with beautiful views out to the sea, unfortunately around the cottage is a lot of rubble and pipes and flags, out of the seven days we were there we had no running hot water for four days, had to boil pans of water to get washed and wash pots, the bedroom furniture could do with being updated as they are a bit dated, the bath could do with replacing as the enamel as worn off the bottom and it felt like sitting on rough sandpaper, the water pressure is quite poor also

  • "Well situated with good views."

The cottage could do with some TLC. The bathroom needs to be improved and kept clean, a new door would help. A matching set of cutlery is needed and some cleaning liquids would be an advantage. More could have been made of the outside facilities.

  • "The cottage was in an excellent location with commanding views across the bay towards Lindisfarne."

However the over riding disappointment was that the shower was intermittent between hot and cold and impossible to regulate. Considerable money has obviously been spent on doors and windows but the bathroom was tired and shabby. The kitchen was adequate but a new set of cutlery wouldnt go amiss instead of the hotch potch of knives and forks provided. The rear entrance from the lane was also littered with old timber, stones and slates making access potentially hazourdous. Overall, the cottage itself was adequate but requires improvements to bring it up to what we expected from a SYKES property

  • "The situation of the property is ideal especially if you are a dog owner and even more if you are a birdwatcher."

It keeps being improved and they clearly listen to comments made. It feels comfortable and you can truly relax. Easy access to north and south Northumberland but if you don't want to travel far there is no need. Try it, you won't regret it.

Love the cottage and location, pleased to find the child gate in the property which we asked for last year. The cottage is basic but clean and has everything you need for a week away.

About the location

BAMBURGH

Seahouses 3.5 miles; Beadnell 5.1 miles; Alnwick 16.9 miles.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.
