  • "The accomodation was excellent."

    Location was like living in a remote area with wildlife outside window including deer, and within minutes be at the beach in Bamburgh and Seahouses or access the A1 main road. Everything required to live in moderen comfort was more than I would have expected. Just a small little extra bit of info, You could have parked 10 cars at the door. Loved it.

  • "Wow, amazing location, beautifully appointed cottage everything you would need, without doubt up there with the best places I've stayed, wildlife from every window, highly recommended, 10/10."

    A few recommendations to the owner would be a dryer, wet clothes nowhere to dry them, room heating was very hot didn't seem to turn down we were roasted for a week, but saying that we loved our stay.

  • "Had the best time at West Burton Hemmel what an amazing location if you want full privacy, peace and quiet with wildlife in the abundance."

    The facilities are so well thought out, everything you need. The only small feedback to improve would be an outdoor hose fitted to the tap to enable you to wash sandy or muddy paws + boots, if your like me and paranoid about keeping your fury family clean it really helps! Not to mention room keeping your beautiful cottage in ship shape for many years ahead. We will definitely be booking again!

  • "It was perfect- clean and very comfortable with everything you need: just wished it had separate microwave rather than combined cooker/microwave."

    Lovely views across the field with visits from deer everyday. Peaceful but close enough for visiting local area. After day of walking it was lovely to come back and relax with a bottle of wine.

  • "Very spacious and well appointed property."

    Gloriously quite and secluded but within 12 mins drive to the coast. We were lucky to have sunny weather during our stay. As there were no blinds or curtains on the main window and entrance, it was difficult to provide shade and heat control. There were 2 very good fans! May sound petty but we would have made more of the outside space if there was more comfortable seating outside. Still 5 star and very happy :)

  • "Perfect property."

    Comfortable accommodation with plenty of space. Such a peaceful setting, saw multiple deers/hares just outside of the property in the evenings. Bamburgh roughly 5 minute drive with Seahouses around 10 minutes away for many amenities. Honestly cannot fault the property or location!

  • "Lovely cottage."

    Only my husband and I stayed but it was in an ideal location, close enough to Bamburgh. Our dog loved the freedom of the space outside the cottage. It was very peaceful up a dedicated lane with no close neighbours. During our stay, we saw a young deer twice and a hare just as we were sat during the evening.

The property

West Burton Hemmel is a stone-built barn conversion set amongst the unspoilt countryside of West Burton, a short distance from the picture postcard village of Bamburgh, with its magnificent castle and beach.

Tastefully converted in 2025, this cottage is perfect for couples or families seeking a rural setting close to the many delights of the Heritage Coast of Northumberland. The property has a spacious off-road parking area, stunning countryside views, and welcoming one well-behaved dog, this family friendly retreat is perfect for gatherings of loved ones seeking a tranquil escape in the heart of the countryside. Upon entering this lovely property, you are greeted by a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and living area.

There is under-floor heating throughout and log burner in the living/sitting area.

The sitting room area is a perfect spot to unwind.

This area features a smart TV and an extra-large window offering views of the unspoilt countryside.

Double doors from the open plan area provide access to the patio and outdoor seating and dining area. The property has three spacious bedrooms, one king sized room with an ensuite, equipped with walk-in shower, heated towel rail, basin and WC.

There is an additional king-sized room, twin room and a family bathroom, complete with bath, shower over, heated towel rail, basin and WC. Getting out and about exploring couldn’t be easier from here with the pretty village of Bamburgh close by and of course, miles of sandy beaches to discover.

Bamburgh is a simply fantastic location with so much on offer for guests.

Bamburgh also has an amazing historic castle and a handful of eateries, so why not explore the history of the local area before ending your day with a hot meal and a glass of your favourite beverage? Coastal towns and villages to call past include Seahouses, Beadnell, Warkworth and Alnmouth. Jump in the car for a scenic drive to attractions such as, the Farne Islands, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Dunstanburgh Castle, Hadrian’s Wall, Northumberland Country Zoo.

Seahouses 3.5 miles; Beadnell 5.1 miles; Alnwick 16.9 miles.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.
