What guests are saying
We had a fantastic week at Braidcarr.
The cottage is in a great location and the easy parking was a bonus! We thought the kitchen was really well equipped and found everything to be clean and comfortable. Seahouses is a great base to visit the beautiful beaches of Northumberland and plenty of pubs and restaurants in walking distance for the evening. Would definitely recommend Braidcarr Cottage.
Many thanks for your lovely review, Sarah. We are pleased that you enjoyed both the cottage and Northumberland as a whole. Hugh and Diane (owners)
Lovely cottage , clean and tidy , location to harbour was great .
We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us in Seahouses. Hugh & Diane (owners)
Equipment in property all in good clean condition and more than sufficient should you need to cook (but why, your on holiday).
Beds very comfortable and clean, settee and armchairs also very comfortable. Property well laid out and nicely decorated. It is also in a good position for walking to local shops, pubs, bus or seafront. Only negatives which are not major: Note in the equipment listing only 2 toilet rolls provided could be helpful. Also provision of a hand towel in the down stairs toilet would be beneficial. Leaving instructions regarding bag for bedding, no bag found, this was mentioned in comments book by previous renters. Shame so many plant pots out front and rear of property with dead or no plants, rather detracts from first impression to such a lovely property. As said the above are not major issues, just things that make the property perfect. We would certainly return if in the area again.
Many thanks for your constructive feedback. We have taken action on most of those points since your stay. Others I will raise with cleaning and maintenance teams. There should have been 2 toilet rolls in EACH bathroom, so 4 in total. Yes we should have a hand towel or at least a hook for one in the downstairs W/C. We usually take one of the spare handtowels down but I'll discuss that with maintenance and our linen hire company. It has not been necessary to strip the beds for some time. Our version of the cottage guide (on our PC) has the information about bedding bags removed. I have raised it with the maintenance team who may not have inserted our updates. We also wholeheartedly agree about the plant pots. We used to maintain these ourselves and ask guests to water the plants. However, a combination of the property being heavily booked (so we stay less often) and guests not watering them led to what you saw. Since your feedback, our maintenance team has replanted all the pots with new plants and will maintain them weekly. Thank you for raising it. Hugh & Diane (owners)
Braidcarr Cottage is in a perfect location, WITH parking which is a huge bonus on a holiday.
Yes, we could see how it might have been a bit tricky sometimes but we didn’t have any problems all week. The house is spacious & comfortable with plenty of storage, in the kitchen and in the bedrooms. The front bedroom is huge so we put the clothes airer in there when necessary. The Black Swan Inn just a few doors down was by far the best for food and has such friendly and welcoming staff. We walked to Bamburgh along the beach one day. This was beautiful, just one rocky bit to navigate but we just took our time. Beware though, if you don’t think you could walk the distance back the bus services are VERY infrequent (maybe in school holidays they are better…?). Also, if you manage to get a taxi you are LUCKY! They are not easy to find. We went on a boat trip to the Farne Islands with a landing visit to Holy Island. That was a lovely day. Braidcarr Cottage is a delightful base for exploration of the area. Highly recommend.
Many thanks for your positive feedback. You clearly made the most of what Seahouses and the area has to offer. We are so lucky to have the Black Swan just down the road. Regards - Hugh & Diane (owners)
We loved our stay in this cottage, would definitely like to return one day.
It was well equipped with everything we needed ( and more! ) It was situated very close to the centre of Seahouses too.
Many thanks Karen. We do like to have your cottages well equipped. We stay in them at least once a year and that helps to keep them in good shape. Our local property manager is great at keeping on top of things too.
Cottage was beautifully furnished & decorated.
Very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Exceptionally clean & tidy. Beds very comfortable. Reserved parking space at back of property, which is a little tight but we managed fine. The only negative is the lack of outside space to sit outdoors. We had an amazing holiday & would certainly return to Braidcarr cottage & will recommend to friends & family.
Thank you Linda. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We do have a bench at the backdoor which is a bit of a sun trap, but the courtyard is primarily for parking. We tend to park our own car a little short of the back door to leave ourselves some space to sit. Hugh & Diane (owners)
Very good all round would have no problem recommending to others.
Thank you for your recommendation. We are glad that you liked Braidcarr Cottage. Hugh & Diane (owners)
This is an outstanding property in a beautiful location.
We were well catered for in terms of all home from home comforts and needs. The beds had quality mattresses and bedding. The lounge was great for relaxing snd the kitchen more than well equipped. A very good stay. Thank you. Note: your cleaners could do better. Although cottage was clean there were cobwebs across some walls in lounge and floors under furniture not clean, just a quick hoover would do the job. Otherwise very good.
Thank you for your feedback, Karen. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and had everything you needed. Following your comments and those of the previous reviewer, I have asked our cleaning company to sort this. Thanks for letting us know. Hugh & Diane
The property was very comfortable, home from home.
The kitchen had everything you could wish for to cook a meal with lots of baking trays and bowls, sharp cutting knives. Beds and pillows very comfortable and clean. Piping hot water and shower was lovely. It was lovely to come into the house at the end of the day and it be warm, with the heating being on most of the day. We were asked not to alter the heating but to contact the owner but sometimes we needed it a bit cooler and then warmer on colder days so we wouldn’t want to keep bothering the owners with changes so we just made do. We didn’t score full on cleanliness as there were lots of bits and crumbs on the counter top next to the window behind the bread bin other than the the property was very clean.
Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad that you had everything that you needed. We don't have an issue with people changing the temperature really. It is just that it overrides the settings for the next guests - which may or may not suit them. In the light of your comments and those above on cleaning, we have raised this with the cleaning company. Thanks again Hugh & Diane
We found the property to be ideal for us,especially as it had a parking space at the rear right next to the back door.
Throughout the cottage everything was clean, nicely decorated and warm. The beds were also very comfortable. In all, we had a very enjoyable stay and would love to stay again.
Thanks Raymond. We are pleased that you had a comfortable and pleasant stay at Braidcarr. Hugh & Diane (owners)
We had a lovely break in this cottage.
Everything you needed was supplied. Some nice touches too, the nespresso machine ect. Very modern kitchen and comfortable living room. It was lovely and warm too, the heating was set for you. Just a lovely place.
Thank you Samantha. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. Hugh & Diane (owners)
Love that it’s so close to the sea & all the shops etc.
A fantastic base . I can truly say it’s the best cottage we’ve stayed in & the woodburner was a bonus. Would definitely return.
That's lovely to hear Val. Thank you very much.
Lovely place.
Warm and very clean and close to the sea. Had a lovely few days.
We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay.
Having Braidcarr Cottage withdrawal symptoms already !
What a beautiful property in a perfect location. Arrived to a lovely warm, clean house The beds were very comfortable.Plenty of hot water when we need it.The coffee machine was a nice treat. Easy to park our car.Lots of interesting places to visit in the day ,and plenty of eateries in the local area to visit without having to drive. Really enjoyed our stay Thank-you
Many thanks for your lovely comments, Hayley. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay.
On the whole clean and welcoming, but probably getting ready for a refresh.
Just a little short on a few things, could do with a towel and hook for same in the downstairs cloakroom, also a couple of spare toilet rolls would be useful. Good location, being a short stroll to the harbour and local shops, pubs etc.
Thank you for your feedback and apologies for our delayed response. We are disappointed that you feel it needs a refresh. We put in a new kitchen, new appliances, new flooring, and new lighting in 2021 (all downstairs). Furthermore the whole property was repainted in December last year. There should have been a towel hook in the downstairs WC. It was just attached with adhesive and has come off. We'll get one put on properly. Thanks for the feedback on toilet rolls. We had always seen toilet rolls as something that we provide as a 'starter-set' for self-catering holidays, but your feedback and that of others suggests that expectations have changed. This is something we need to look at.
Our second visit to this cottage in Seahouses.
The cottage is in a very convenient location a short walk from the harbour and the town centre, it is well equipped and maintained. A big plus is the private parking space which is off road at the rear of the cottage. A beautiful area, well worth a visit. Patricia Bailey
Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are pleased to know that you have enjoyed it sufficiently to be returning guests.
An extremely well-equipped and comfortable cottage in a great location; in the heart of the village but still very peaceful.
The cottage was very clean with everything we needed for the week - the coffee machine was a definite bonus.
Thanks for the lovely comments. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay in Braidcarr.
Lovely property right next to the docks at Seahouses.
Property was comfortable and well maintained with excellent access to both the coast and the seaside town. If you're driving, the road is a little tight and parking in the private courtyard to the rear requires a good degree of reversing into or out of (I recommend reversing into it). Would definitely stay in the cottage again.
Thanks for your kind comments Nick. Regarding the parking, we usually drive straight into the courtyard - taking care if there are cars parked opposite the entrance. To drive out, we usually reverse from our parking space until we reach the other end of the courtyard, then drive straight out. But each to his own. Your way probably works just as well!
Braidcarr Cottage was a great base for exploring the local area.
The cottage was really comfortable, very clean and had every thing we needed.
Thank you for your positive comments. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay.
Cosy, spacious and well-equipped cottage in a great location for exploring the area and near to local shops and places to eat and drink.
Would definitely recommend this cottage to others wanting to stay in the area. Everything was great - just two very minor points for the owner: The seal around the fridge door is partly detached and needs fixing as I had to keep tucking it in every time I opened the door. Also, a couple of spare toilet rolls would have been welcome as only one in each loo was not quite enough for one week.
Thank you for your kind comments and the constructive feedback. We'll get someone to check out the fridge seal. You make a good point about the toilet rolls. We have always seen them as a starter supply rather than covering for someone's whole stay but, based on your feedback, we have asked our cleaners to leave 2 toilet rolls in each WC for bookings of 5 days or more. Future guests should now have 4 in the property when staying for a week. Thank you for raising it.
Braidcarr cottage is a delightful well equipped cottage, with off road parking, in a perfect location.
Handy for the beach, harbour, shops and places to eat. The cottage is very comfortable, and really tastefully furnished, it’s a welcome retreat after a day exploring the beautiful Northumberland coast, we hope to come back to stay at Braidcarr again.
Thank you for your kind comments
The property was a lovely place to stay tastefully decorated and very clean with everything you need the kitchen was very well equipped modern and the coffee machine with a nice touch.
The houses is ideally situated in Seahouses near to the harbour pubs and restaurants we had a lovely time played golf and had some great beach walks.
We are glad that you had such a nice time and liked the cottage. Hugh & Diane
Braidcarr cottage was a lovely place to stay, it was very clean and well equipped, the beds were really comfortable.
Parking the car at the back could sometimes be a bit awkward due to parked car’s opposite the entrance outside the houses. Seahouses is a lovely area, we walked along the Sandy beach to Bamburgh and in the opposite direction to Beadnell. There are plenty of places to eat in Seahouses and the surrounding areas. Alnwick Castle is a short drive away and a lovely place to visit, Harry Potter was filmed there. Holy island is also worth a visit Lindisfarne Castle (National Trust) on the island was also very interesting!
Thank you for your review. We are very glad you enjoyed the cottage and location.
Braidcarr cottage was a very well presented and the cleanliness was very good and was tastefully furnished.
The kitchen was equipped with plenty of equipment all of which was of a good quality. Its position in the village is excellent giving easy access to shops and harbour. We enjoyed a much needed break in this cosy cottage.
Many thanks for your lovely review. Hugh & Diane (owners)
I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Braidcarr Cottage in Seahouses.
Everything was perfect—the cottage was spotless, nicely decorated, and had everything I needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The location was fantastic, a short walk to the harbour, shops, and pubs, making it easy to explore the area. The cottage itself was warm and welcoming, with a cosy living space, a well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable beds. I especially loved how close it was to everything. The perfect base for exploring the Northumberland coastline, including Bamburgh Castle and the Farne Islands. I wouldn’t hesitate to book again—highly recommended!
Many thanks Robyn. I am glad that you had such an enjoyable stay, both in the cottage and in Northumberland more generally.
Had a fantastic stay at Braidcarr cottage.
Very compfy and well equipped, everything you need when taking a self catering holiday. Perfect location with the added bonus of off street parking. Cannot wait to return.
Many thanks for your kind comments Darren.
Great stay with great facilities and in a great location.
Would recommend to anyone coming to stay at Seahouses. Great food at the Black Swan which was only 50 yards away and a good pint at the social club watching sport on the numerous large TVs. Holy Island and Craster only a short drive and also visit the battle field of Flodden.
We are really pleased that the enjoyed Braidcarr Cottage and Seahouses. We hope you took advantage of the Black Swan discount card that we have in the cottage. Thanks
Lovely cottage with all amenities Well stocked kitchen crockery and utensils.
Only downside wish there was more pressure on shower but hey managed to keep clean. The good weather helped fir us to enjoy Seahouses and the Northumberland coast but then sea fret and fog on last day made us pack up and head home early. Will fully recommend cottage. Margaret
Thank you for your compliments about the cottage and its amenities. The shower is an electric 'power' shower that heats its own water, so that necessarily limits the flow. More generally, the water in the house is heated 24 hours a day, so there is always enough hot water for a bath. Sorry you didn't get good weather on your final day.
The property is a very high spec, with everything that you could possibly need.
It was clean and comfortable and in an excellent location, with parking! The owners are very quick to respond to any issues and very keen to rectify asap. Highly Recommended!
Thanks for the feedback Louise - and thanks for letting us know about the issue immediately, so we could get it sorted for other guests. We hope to be able to welcome you back again in the future.
Excellent property very central to town centre local amenities pubs restaurants and the harbour.
Seahouses brilliant place for a holiday had a wonderful stay.Great location to explore northumberland farne islands Bamburgh lindisfarne and other days out .Mr and Mrs Kelly
Cottage is lovely and very well equipped with most things you are likely to need.
Its has a great central location very close to the harbour and town centre. Access to parking is quite tight especially when cars park close to the entrance to the rear of the property. Cars also park on the street outside the front door. A no parking sign and 24 hour access required at all times being put up on the front of the house could possibly help mitigate this issue
Thank you Jonathan. We are glad you liked the property and we will consider your suggestion about signage at the front. Parking in the courtyard at the rear is usually fine. It sounds like the guests in no.22 had parked outside their backdoor instead of in their allotted space on the back wall.
The cottage was very comfortable in every respect, and well equipped for our needs.
We had no problems with the parking arrangements. There was a minor confusion with the directions given to us. These state: "... Continue straight onto North Street. Towards the bottom of North Street. Turn right onto Union Street and left onto South Street. Braidcarr Cottage is on your right-hand side." This is correct EXCEPT that one shouldn't turn left onto South Street. Fortunately, we eventually realised that the address was 18 UNION STREET so it is not on South Street (!) and if you take a RIGHT turn off Union Street you can reach the parking space behind the property.
Thanks for your feedback. We are delighted that you liked Braidcarr Cottage. Sorry for the poor directions. I'll message our agents to make sure they update them
The cottage was excellent , well furnished and equipped, very clean.
Lovely modern kitchen area and bathroom. A great base for exploring the local area . Getting in to parking area was a bit tricky at first although it was good to have an allocated space. Overall the cottage really made the holiday as the weather wasn't great - a welcoming place to return to after days out.
Thanks for your feedback. We are pleased that you liked Braidcarr Cottage, but sorry to hear that you didn't have the best weather.
We’ve stayed at Braidcarr before and we are planning to stay there again.
This cottage is just perfect for us. Many thanks
We are pleased that you have enjoyed your stay at Braidcarr again. Thanks for the comments. Hugh & Diane (owners)
Lovely property, great location for the harbour and pubs.
It was so quiet and restful - the bed was very comfy. We loved the wood burner - a novelty for us and very easy to use. We will be back
Thank you for your kind comments. They are much appreciated. Glad you managed to work the wood burner. It does make it very cosy!
House was nicely decorated and had a well stocked kitchen.
Parking was off road so nice and safe. Close to shops, bars and places to eat. House was a little chilly when we were there in March, could have done with being g a little bit warmer.
Thank you for your lovely comments and feedback. I am sorry the house was chilly on your arrival. It had been unoccupied for a week or two before your arrival so the heating had been on its frost-protection setting. Although it had been switched back on the day before, this may not have been sufficient to fully warm it back up. I have noted this for future guests who arrive after it being unoccupied.
Braidcarr Cottage was clean, well lit and well appointed with modern facilities and a good kitchen and bathroom.
It was spacious with plenty of room, and had a good log burner and television as well as a sonos speaker. It is centrally located a few metres away from an excellent pub and a traditional fishmonger and smokehouse. My wife and I have enjoyed the local area, with the beautiful beaches, castles, restaurants and fascinating history from Bamburgh to Alnwick and out to the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne. We will be back.
Many thanks for your kind comments. We are pleased you had a lovely time and enjoyed the cottage.
A fantastic property that is in an ideal location for the area.
The house was furnished to a high standard that supplied everything and more that you need, Hair dryer in both bedrooms and plenty of information and leaflets for the area. Exceptionally clean The house had a the bonus of a downstairs WC along with the main bathroom which I hadn’t seen in the house information. Will recommend this property highly
Many thanks for your kind feedback. It is always great to hear when guests love the cottage as much as we do.
Great cottage well equipped in quiet part of Seahouses.
Right by the harbour and local shops and pubs.We had a very relaxing and quiet week together.
We are glad that you enjoyed your week away and like our cottage. We have owned it since 2003 and used it many times ourselves.
A lovely cottage in an excellent location for Seahouses.
We found it very quiet despite the number of properties around. Would definitely stay again.
Many thanks for your comments and would love to welcome you back again.
A lovely cottage, immaculately clean with everything you could possibly need for your stay.
We wouldn't hesitate to book again.
Many thanks for lovely feedback, Hugh & Diane, owners.
Lovely cottage and in a great location, within short walking distance of all Seahouses has to offer.
Court yard garden was a misrepresented as it is really the car parking space so really couldn't sit or eat out there and the bath plug was slow to drain away
Thank you for your positive comments and the constructive feedback. I agree that the use of the word "garden" is not correct. As a result of your feedback, I have asked Sykes/NCCC to remove the word "garden" from the property description and they have already done so. I have also asked them to check on the other item.
A very comfortable and attractive property, and well equipped with everything we needed.
We found the location very relaxing and noise free, in spite of how busy Seahouses is nowadays during the holiday period. We would definitely like to book it again for our next visit. Recommended!
Many thanks for your kind comments. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to y our return.
Braidcarr Cottage is very well equipped and comfortable.
It could hardly be better inside. It is located just of the harbour but there are no window views of it. I would certainly stay their again. Seahouses is a great base for a stay on the beautiful coast of Northumbria. The Old Ship is the best pub. The Bamburgh Castle serves decent meals. I recommend The Crafter Arms in Beadnell for atmosphere and great food.
We are very glad you you enjoyed your stay at Braidcarr Cottage. We have owned the cottage for 20 years and always strive to keep it in great condition. We did a major refurbishment of the living/dining/kitchen area before the 2022 season.
Great location, clean well-equipped cottage.
Braidcarr Cottage is a lovely homely property that is fitted out to a very high standard.
Everything we needed was provided and it's location in the quieter side of the town was good - only two minutes walk from the harbour.
Very well furnished homely everything you need to make a comfortable holiday.
Very clean and comfortable with everything you need locally and it is well maintained.
.......
Well appointed, in a great position right down by the harbour.
Private parking a must and is provided. My wife and I enjoyed it and would visit again!
Good clean property with dedicated parking.
Good location close to centre and harbour.
The property was clean, well equipped and comfortable.
The location is good for the amenities in the village and a good base for touring the area. It's our fourth visit so the owners must be doing something right!
A lovely and relaxing cottage close to amenities yet in a quiet location.
Very well equipped.
