  • "Tuesday evening we returned to the cottage to find that someone had been in the property to do maintenance in the bathroom leaving the old parts in the bathroom bin over hanging out of it and we came back to a puddle of water around the toilet due to it now leaking from behind the main input pipe."

Upon speaking to the lady who owns the property she couldn’t have been kinder and apologised as we was mean’t to receive notice from Sykes Cottages informing us of this maintenance happening. She had organised for the plumber to return the next day to fix the leaking pipe which was completed by the time we returned to the cottage again the following day after our day out. The only other maintenance note to make was that a couple of the heaters around the property would not work for whatever reason despite setting them up exactly the same as the ones that we found were working. Obviously this time of year it wasn’t a massive issue as it was mild but we did have a few chilly mornings and evenings that needed just a little upping of the temperature. The owner is aware of this also. Everything else within the property was absolutely fine and would certainly book the cottage again if available when looking. Perfect location to the harbour and views out towards Bamburgh.

EDIT: Heater replaced today in living area (20.04.24) All other heaters rechecked and in working order I am pleased you have enjoyed your stay. Thank you for letting me know about the heaters. I did find that one did not seem to work so I will arrange to have it repaired or replaced. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful holiday home with great views of the sea."

It was very comfortable to stay in, sofa and beds were a dream and rare find from past experiences. We had a power cut which was a problem outside. The owner was great and kept us up to date with what was happening. The problem was resolved very quickly. It was a great base to visit Bamburgh, Beadnell Berwick and Alnwick. A bonus to this accommodation was a washing machine and dryer which was brilliant with young kids. The garage also for off road parking was perfect. It is great walking distance to the shops and pubs.

  • "We are regular visitors to Seahouses and have used different properties."

We've stayed at the Boathouse on two previous occasions, albeit a few years ago. We find it very comfortable and like the location. Also, on balance good value for the price. There have been some improvements since our last stay, particularly in the bedrooms. A negative point before but much better now. My only disappointment with the place is the shower. Please upgrade! All in all a nice break in a pleasant cottage. We will definitely book again next year. Hopefully the building over the road will have been finished. Noise and parking a nuisance.

  • "This was our third visit to the property, the Boathouse is a good location clean and spacious."

Unfortunately there was renovation work on the property opposite which I appreciate is beyond the control of the owners it made it very difficult using the garage due to scaffolding and parked vehicles and parking in Seahouses is not easy. The washing machine in the garage was faulty only tried using it once to freshen up towels Still quite an enjoyable stay

The property was ideal for our trip, just a shame the washing machine and shower in the garage didn't work or was already broken other wise it was fine

  • "The overall accommodation was reasonably tidy and clean, but the one overriding issue was the smell that emanates from the ground floor off road garage which is directly below the first floor living room."

The smell of oil and fumes from the garage permeates into the living space. It’s easy to place the smell and there was even a hand written note asking anyone using the off road parking to not leave their engine running for too long as fumes can get upstairs. However, the smell isn’t exhaust fumes so much as a working garage smell, the old oil smells heavy in the air and I would hope that a deep clean of the garage would help. It’s not the kind of thing you want from a holiday rental.

  • "This is a lovely property in a great location although there are still many outstanding repair issues mentioned by those who visited and made comments in April and outstanding from last year."

Additionally to these the second double bedroom blind was broken and could not be closed fully, the bed was most uncomfortable with broken springs and a very squeaky metal bed base. The TV is old and difficult to use. The shower although powerful was only able to run barely warm water. The garage shower is broken. Additionally the tumble dryer and washing machine is shared use in the garage which is not highlighted in the description. I do not think this property is value for money but could quite easily be with some TLC as written in the property customer feedback

  • "Excellent location and enjoyed view to harbour and sea from the settee."

Bright and warm cottage. Beds and settee and armchair were really comfortable (which is not always the case with holiday lets). Bathroom could do with updating. Appreciated having parking space in garage. Bit tight though for a large car and shared access to washing machine/dryer with next door.

  • "We love coming back to Seahouses to The Boathouse."

The house is so comfortable with such useful space in the garage/former boathouse. It is in the centre of everything, minimising needing to take the car out, with easy access to coastal walks, shops and cycling. Treated ourselves to a spa afternoon at the Ocean Club and meal at Insieme for a special birthday celebration this time but usually cook with well supplied kitchen and fresh seafood. Thank you!

  • "This is our fourth stay at The Boathouse and we were disappointed this time."

Mainly due to the number of things that didn’t work and especially as most issues had been reported by us at the end of our stay a year ago when we stayed there last time in April 2022 and nothing had been fixed / sorted! The following things need fixing / replacing: toaster (only right hand side works), heater on landing doesn’t work, heater in lounge by telephone doesn’t work, socket for tumble drier doesn’t work, 4 broken hooks in fish bedroom, 3 broken hooks in white bedroom, kitchen sink plug chain broken, basin plug hole in bathroom grotty, bath panel broken and just taped up. The cost for us to stay at the same time next year is absolutely eye watering and considering we already paid nearly £200 more than our stay last Easter we won’t be paying another £200 to stay next year! This takes the cost to double what we paid on our first visit 5 years ago. It isn’t worth over a £1000 to stay for a week. Please sort out the maintenance issues to help future guests, we won’t be staying again….

  • "The Boathouse is a wonderful place to stay , beautifully clean and equipped in a wonderful village of Seahouses , which had all the facilities that we were looking for holiday as a family."

The only thing which marred our stay was the fact that SYKES confirmed before arriving that we could have an extra travel cot, which did not arrive for 2 days , meaning that our 6 month baby had to sleep in a suitcase for 2 nights !! Thanks to all of those who helped remedy this situation eventually. Looking forward to booking again for a lovely family break.

We were so relieved when you eventually got the extra cot delivered. On a lighter note there's definitely a story to tell the little one when they grow up. Property Owner
