Chris was very welcoming and always on hand if we needed anything.

We had a great time at Marcus3 very comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. Chris was very helpful especially with the charging of my son’s car. Looking forward to returning soon.

Really well equipped property, in beautiful condition.

Very relaxing evenings had, sitting in the property, or on the seats outside. Not a massive choice of restaurants in the immediate area, but there are offerings within a short drive. Plenty take-aways in Shotley Bridge, just a couple of miles down the road. Owner lives on site and is really friendly & helpful.

The property was superb, very well equipped and to a high quality and gave an excellent first impression.

Couldn't really fault the property to be honest and Chris was great, really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be back!

Good time, excellent accommodation

We had a great holiday.

Chris and Lynne are great hosts and are very friendly and willing to help. The cottage is warm, comfortable and has all mod cons. Great days out followed by comfortable relaxing evenings with everything you may need to hand - what more could you look for in a holiday.

Perfect accommodation. Only hiccup was actually finding the property as it was posted as Front Street instead of needing to turn up Swan Lane. It didn’t help as it was getting dark by the time we arrived. Other than that, it was all exactly as described.

Chris was a brilliant and attentive host from booking the stay to us leaving.

The accommodation is finished to a high standard and allowed us to have a great weekend break. The property is located just a short drive away from many activities in each direction so was perfect for us. Would love to stay again in future. Thanks Chris!

Marcus Barn was a fantastic property exceeding our expectations.

Both double ensuite bedrooms were very comfortable and the showers were excellent. The lounge and kitchen area were very good and suited all our needs. The owners were exceptionally helpful and this is certainly one of the best cottages we have visited. We have already booked to stay again in the next door cottage in March (Antoninus Barn2) having been allowed to view it during our stay - same excellent quality of furnishings and same excellent owners. Already looking forward to our visit.

We booked Marcus barn for a few nights over Christmas as we were staying in the area to see family.

It definitely lived up to expectations and had everything we needed and more. It was a great place to spend Christmas and the kids loved it. Would definitely recommend!

Chris and Lynne were fantastic hosts and offer comfortable, immaculate accommodation.

Marcus Barn was really well appointed with a generous kitchen and living room space. The bedrooms were warm and cosy with good ensuite showers attached. We enjoyed our stay here and trying out some of the walks that are suggested, it's also an easy drive into Newcastle. Chris and Lynne were incredibly kind and accommodating at a difficult time and overall it's one for the best places we've stayed in for a while.

Our second visit to the barns in two months!

Last time we stayed in Antoninus, but as that was already booked we went for the larger Marcus Barn. This is stunning accommodation, very spacious, yet cosy too. It features a beautiful exposed stone wall, and many original beams (complete with nails!). We were luckier with the weather than we’d expected for November, and managed to get out and about every day. A return visit to Roker beach on a sunny Sunday, a film at the theatre in Consett, a trip to the Bowes Museum to see the amazing ‘Silver Swan’, and dinner at Santonios just up the road were amongst the highlights. Whitley Bay was also a treat - sitting overlooking the sea and eating a ‘Whitella’ icecream! Thanks again to Chris and Lynne, who are the perfect hosts, and are always so welcoming, friendly and helpful.

It is a very unusual building,an old barn which has been beautifully & thoughtfully renovated.Very warm,comfortable ,lots of care has gone into thinking of guests needs.A real plus having Roman ruins in the garden

Great holiday home, very clean, in a beautiful village.

We enjoyed our stay in this well-appointed holiday home.

It was well stocked with everything we needed. EV charging on site worked well. Very comfortable bed and excellent shower. The owners were very friendly and extremely helpful. Village shop just across the road. We loved the sculptures and artwork displayed around the home. WiFi adequate most of the time but the smart TV stuttered on an evening, and the TV was not connected to an aerial. We would definitely return.

The owners were friendly and keen to make sure that everything was perfect for our stay. We would be very happy to return there in the future.

Marcus Barn 3 had everything we needed, everything worked and we had no need to contact the owners throughout our stay. However it was reassuring to know that Chris and Lynne were resident onsite if we needed them. They gave us a warm welcome and were very sociable and we thank them for a lovely holiday and we would certainly recommend this property to family and friends.

Superbly decorated and extremely comfortable

A lovely barn conversion in the village of Ebchester.

Very well equipped, apart from lack of clothes washing facilities. Durham, Beamish and Newcastle are all within 30 - 40 minutes drive from the property (there's also a bus stop directly opposite). There is a useful village store within two minutes walk of the barn, otherwise there's a large Morrisons and Tesco in Consett. The weather was generally good and we had three lovely walks in the Wear Valley and surrounds. There area couple of walks from the house too. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Marcus Barn 3 remained cool due to its thick walls. The owner's were lovely too - not everyone has the remains of a bath house/hypocaust system in their garden!

We stayed at Marcus Barn in the middle of our house move.

The property was immaculate and beautiful and the hosts were extremely helpful and friendly. Top marks on everything apart from one small personal niggle, I am disabled with severe arthritis and the sofa in the living area was too low for me to get in and out without help. This is a common problem for me and not often considered in general but other than that the property was stunning and highly recommended.

Absolute perfection.

This was our second holiday in one of Chris and Lynne’s holiday lets and it won’t be our last. The thought and meticulous care that has gone into these barn conversions has to be seen to be believed. Marcus Barn 3 is what we expected - clean, comfortable and so spacious and the ideal place for a relaxing break. We were helped by exceptional weather but the outside seating area was ideal for a cold beer and completion of the crossword ! We love this area - the friendly village, the excellent shop, the pleasant local walks and the history, Roman and industrial , literally on the doorstep. Many thanks to Chris and Lynne for their friendly welcome and all that they have done to make our stay so memorable. Rest assured we will be back for another break in the not too distant future. Marcus barn 3 has been beautifully renovated to a high standard.

Has all you need in the kitchen, showers very good and comfortable beds. The barn allowed us to rest after our husbands did the Hadrians wall walk. Lovely area, great for the dogs nice walks close by. Can see us coming back. Last but by no means least hosts lovely and helpful. Thank you for a great stay.

The property was in a great location for Beamish, it was clean, comfortable and well equipped.

Had the advantage of an EV charger and well stocked village store just opposite. Plenty of pubs and restaurants a short drive away, suited our needs perfectly.

Had an amazing week in Barn 3 - Marcus.

The property is stunning and has everything you need, from handwash, spare toilet rolls to a great coffee machine. It’s a great place to stay and unwind. Chris and Lindsay are fantastic hosts and are always on the end of the phone if you needed them. Would definitely recommend. Ideally situated for Beamish and surrounding areas. Will be booking again when we head up north again.

Fantastic Stay, perfect base for Newcastle and Durham. Great walking in nearby Gibside National Trust. Very well laid out with quirky features ( Dog loved sitting on the wide windowsills watching the world go by ). Shower really good, Kitchen fully equipped, nice suntrap to sit outside on comfy chairs after a day out. Might benefit from a footstool of some kind in lounge area, and an outside hook to tether dog when sitting. Would return without hesitation

Excellent property with a very efficient EV charging point which worked effortlessly on two ev's Ideal floor surfaces for dogs but no where on site to exercise them.

Chris and Lynne were very welcoming and helped make our stay a very enjoyable and relaxing one. We used the barn as a base to visit our daughter at university in Newcastle (20 min drive) and Northumbria. Housesteads, Sycamore Gap and Vindolanda are all worth a visit if you head up to Hadrian’s wall. Very enjoyable day at the seaside (Tynemouth), walking dog on the sandy beach and the castle was fascinating too. Disused railway line less than 500m from the cottage turning left and walking up shaw lane with great views over surrounding countryside. A beautiful property with carefully considered features and good quality fittings - especially enjoyed the shower and coffee machine!

Our two dogs also had a very happy stay and appreciated the doggy treats and other extras. Chris and Lynne were super friendly and helpful hosts. We had a great time exploring the area with easy access to woodland walks and not far from amazing beaches (Druridge Bay is highly recommended for wide and empty sands with crashing waves). For an excellent local takeaway we can recommend Wok N Go Chinese only 5 minutes drive away - they even cater for vegans!

Beautiful property.

Accommodation clean and comfortable with everything we required and more as Murphy (spaniel) made to feel welcome too. Fabulous roomy shower. Chris and Lynne (owners) helpful and friendly. Recommend Crossed swords pub (walkable ) for food Corbridge , Hexham,Blanchland all pretty towns nearby with walks. Further afield The Sill and walk along Hadrian's wall. Walk along Lower and High Force Waterfall in Teesdale. Fabulous scenery on drive there. All in all a fabulous holiday.

Our four night stay at Barn 3 was most enjoyable.

Could not ask for a better place to relax. Property is a blend of old and new, and finished to a very high standard. Location perfect for day trips to local attractions, with Newcastle, Durham, Hexham, Beamish and Derwent Reservoir all in easy reach. Chris and Lynne are excellent hosts and very approachable. Highly recommend.

This is 5 star accommodation in a convenient location for walking, sightseeing, and even a trip to the coast.

Chris and Lynne are super hosts and provide valuable information on where to eat and visit. We had a lovely holiday and our dog thoroughly enjoyed the comfort.
