  • "We had a very pleasant holiday at The Cowshed."

We previously had had to cancel a booking there due to Covid lockdown, but we're glad we booked again. It was ideal for the four of us (2 couples). Would recommend it for comfort, and for a good place for visiting around the Hadrian's Wall area. Owner very friendly and helpful.

Thanks for the great feedback. Delighted you had a good week. Hope to see you again in the future. Property Owner

It really comfortable, warm and central to so many places. It was like being in a home from home. The owner left us a welcome pack that was fantastic. We are now looking to book again later in the year.

Only one suggestion - remote control blind for Velux window in bedroom. The moonlight can be very bright on the pillows on clear nights.

Very well maintained with everything you could need for a comfortable stay - including underfloor heating, a dishwasher, record player with a great selection of records, a log burner and a selection of books and games. The town is lovely and in the perfect location for countryside walks. I would definitely recommend The Cowshed!

The weather was cold when we first arrived and we couldn't see how or where the heating was, although it did have thermostats everywhere. After a couple of nights it became warmer and we were more comfortable. All in all a lovely stay - we would definitely recommend it.

  • "We are so pleased with last years holiday ."

... I thought Sykes, I wonder if they have a Cowshed with the critical facilities "walkin shower or wet room" a double and a twin room and near a pub and people when we go off and leave my mother and brother for a half day, in the Derby/Peak district.? Sure enough there was the "Old Cowshed" and "Zoe's Cowshed" in Witten ref: xx etc. although there are about 4 more steps than the "Cowshed" in Haddon and no wet room but a single shower which should be alright. It looks idillic and peacefully set in the country... if all goes well we will be extremely satisfied customers... Thank you very much indeed. Cynthia and family

  • "We had a wonderful week at The Cowshed, we had been there before and it was a delight to be back."

The cottage is perfect and there’s a lovely garden which we used quite a bit as the weather was nice. We were always mindful of the COVID situation and probably spent more time at the cottage than we would otherwise have done but it just gave us more time to enjoy it. We had it booked for last year but of course we couldn’t go so we had been looking forward to it for a long time but it was absolutely worth it. I would recommend it 100%!

All amenities needed available in cottage. Loved the bathrooms. Kitchen equipment excellent. Easy drive from City Centre. Very clean. Books, maps, games, music, fireplace, 3 TVs. And felt very private. I particularly loved the lampshades with the birds, butterflies. Lovely antidote to lockdown experience.

  • "Had the most relaxing week in beautiful Northumberland!"

The Cowshed exceeded all our expectations. The photographs don’t do it justice. It’s spacious, and yet still so cozy. It’s been so tastefully renovated, . A fabulous mix of old and new. We loved its quirkyness, the artwork and all the little touches that make it feel like home. It was lovely to find a welcome hamper with Prosecco, coffee and tea & milk in the fridge! It has everything you need for a comfortable stay, plenty of lovely handsoaps and toiletries.. it was also spotlessly clean. Margaret is a lovely host and was very welcoming, reassuring us that if we needed anything then we only had to knock her door. Thank you again for a super holiday. We can’t wait to return, hopefully later in the year. Dee & Tony Newman.

Everything was just as advertised, hence, our decision to book here again. The property was clean and comfortable, just what you'd expect in the current climate with plenty of anti-COVID-19 provisions. We enjoyed visiting the local farm shops and cafes for the wonderful food they have to offer. No doubt, we'll be coming here again.

My only gripe re the kitchen equipment would be a lack of microwaveable containers, a fruit bowl and a salad bowl but the abundance of books and information leaflets plus the big shower more than made up for these omissions.

The welcome pack was much appreciated and included a little basket of fresh eggs. We really enjoyed the record player and vinyl LP's to play. The owners were very helpful. This would suit someone of limited mobility as everything was on the flat and there was a walk in shower in the master bedroom. We enjoyed the 2min walk to the pub for dinner and the 2 min walk to the arts centre for lunch. We even bought a picture from one the the artists in residence! Great position for exploring Hadrians Wall, but also only 30 mins from Durham.

We combined visiting family with seeing more of Northumberland. The cowshed was well equipped and a welcome basket of goods was much appreciated- I have stayed in many cottages and it is often these little touches that are much appreciated. The owners responded efficiently to any queries we had . Good position for eg Newcastle, Hexham, Roman Wall and beautiful countryside. It is slightly close to the B road, however that can’t be remedied and did not impact on our enjoyment of returning to it everyday ! A big thank you to the owners, it is a well loved place.

  • "Wonderful place and superbly appointed."

Owner (lives on-site next door) is supremely helpful but in no way interfering. Excellent location to tour east (not far - Newcastle then the sea..), west (Cumbria and the rest of Hadrian's Wall beckons), north (the main draw - all the stunning Northumbrian beaches and castles) and south (into North Yorkshire pet). Lovely Welcome pack on arrival - so a cuppa on arrival after a long journey is oh so gratefully received. Note that the master bedroom's en-suite actually has a wonderful large walk-in deluge shower - not mentioned by the owners or on the website (but it should be!). The whole place is perfectly accessible as is on one level - but there is a step into the front door or a much smaller step via the French Windows into the master bedroom (once you are in and have got the key..). Lovely little village with a nice pub (Lion and lamb) that serves really nice food. Note Horsley now only has a single pub as the other has recently closed. There is no local village shop, so Heddon-on-the-Wall (about 3 miles) for papers, milk and fuel etc. Corbridge (7 miles) is a lovely little town which we love and there are restaurants and cafes aplenty.
