  • "Booked Summerford over Christmas and New Year at a premium price and it was absolutely not worth the money."

... We "bought" into the photos advertised but these are far from a true reflection of the property. We simply didn't get what we paid for. The premises has had a lick of paint but is long overdue an overhall, a new kitchen and appliances is a must. Upon arrival the dishwasher was full of stagnet smelly water we were unable to use it during or stay. The microwave and oven don't work properly (this has been noted in guest book since July last year! The wooden kitchen bench, sink and drainer is rotten, black and full of mould and bacteria. The plinth below sink kept dropping down. Crockery, dirty chipped etc. Mould and rust in bathrooms. A noisy plastic roof in one of the bedrooms. Overgrown messy garden, no courtyard space as per photos. I have dozens of photos reflecting the true condition of the property but unable to upload here. On the plus side bedding & towels were pristine, location was good. We left the premises before check out day.

Thank you for drawing our attention to the problems and defects that you encountered during your stay at Summerfold. We obviously apologize for these and are seriously disappointed that these made your stay anything other than the comfortable, cosy, relaxing and memorable experience that we aim to provide. In agreement with your comments and in acceptance of their age we have already scheduled replacements for the line of kitchen units including the cooker and sink. We have discussed cleaning issues with our team of local ladies whom I may say take a pride in presenting a clean and tidy property to guests. I am therefore confidant that , acknowledging your comments, such issues will not recur. Along with our painter the state of painting in the house will be assessed and any repainting carried out as required' I am concerned that the mid winter state of the garden caused you upset. My wife and myself are keen gardeners and carry out garden maintenance ourselves. As with our own gardens a partial clearance of overgrowth was carried out in the Autumn and will be followed by a much more radical Spring clean. I fully accept that the photos on the website of the patio and summerhouse are historical. The patio has been extended and a larger summerhouse- which has been positively welcomed by guests- installed. One of the benefits of our property is that we live nearby. We have procedures in place, along with our lettings agent, to rapidly address and correct problems encountered by guests. We encourage early communication with ourselves through our obviously displayed mobile numbers and if required direct contact with our local plumber and electrician. Unfortunately it would seem like this facility was not accessed on this occasion. In conclusion I acknowledge that it must have been upsetting to you to write and for us to receive such a review and sincerely hope that our responses may give you satisfaction in knowing that matters that had a negatively impacted on your stay are being addressed. It is a comfortable, modern, reasonably spacious house on a small development within walking distance of the village. The area is attractive and interesting with plenty to do nearby. Warkworth is a very attractive village with a fine castle and beach.

We have stayed here several times and have never been disappointed. Heather Grove is very quiet and Warkworth is beautiful. Super beaches are a few minutes drive away and there is a fantastic ice cream shop just up the road.

  • "A gorgeous cottage for our family of 5 and our dog, Hermione."

It was our home from home for the week but we could have easily stayed forever. The cottage is in an ideal quiet, safe location for country and coastal walks, visiting other villages and many other attractions are within easy reach. There were three generations ranging from 73 to 11 and Hermione, 2 and 11 months. The kitchen had everything you need and had a lot of space for us all to easily move around in. The kitchen was well equipped, including a huge fridge and freezer. The bedrooms were all a brilliant size and beds were exceptionally comfy. The lounge, also an excellent size, had very comfy sofas and a great place to unwind after exploring in the day. The bathroom and en-suite had everything you wanted. The shower in the main bathroom was extremely powerful, so don't over do the shampoo! The outside space was all enclosed and was excellent for my dog. The shrubs were a little overgrown but didn't make a lot of difference to us as we didn't sit out. If you did want to sit out there was a lovely table and chairs and a beautiful summerhouse to use. The parking was great for our 2 cars at the front of the house. The neighbours were all very friendly, especially to my dog! We had the best week, in an excellent location and will definitely be going back. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home.

  • "Although the inside of the house looked the same as the photos in the listing, the garden was falsely advised."

The garden on the website showed a summerhouse at the end of the garden with space for the dogs in the rest of it. The summerhouse had been moved (and not recently) and is now in the middle of the garden, leaving no space for the dogs to walk or roam. There are also large overgrown bushes, including rose bushes (again not planted recently) which were not safe for dogs. Very disappointing. Very good location for the area. Would definitely stay in Warkworth again, but not in the same house. .

  • "The property was comfortable and clean, although for our family the location wasn’t quite right."

The garden area is overgrown and feels small when compared to the website photographs, due to the orientation of a large shed/summerhouse and lots of overhanging planting. We had a slight issue with a padlocked tumble drier, however this was quickly resolved by Sykes snd the owner. All in all a nice house in a beautiful area.

  • "We had everything we needed for our stay."

It was like home from home. A well equipped kitchen, homely lounge, super comfy beds. It's in a great location, handy for days out along the coast and then unwind in a peaceful area. The back garden is a lovely area to unwind. Great that it gets the sun both morning and early evening. We didn't use the summer house as it was very warm when we stayed but it's a nice addition to the garden. The welcome pack was very detailed, but I would suggest leaving details of the bin collection days in the kitchen. We missed it and looking at how full the bins were so had previous occupants. Overall this was a lovely property and if we were visiting this area again we'd definitely book to stay here

  • "Our eventual stay in Summerfold was absolutely fine and the property was good in every way."

So no negative feedback whatsoever to the owners. The booking process however was a fiasco which was both stressful and avoidable. Communication is everything and Sykes have let themselves down badly on two occasions this year. They have not responded positively (in fact not responded at all) to the feedback given and so we will sadly not be booking with them ever again.
