"The property was excellent and a perfect base for exploring the surrounding area."
The property was clean, well decorated, sapcious, comfortable and well equipped. I would definitely stay here again. The property is perfect for large groups. The secret games room made the holiday for the younger members of our party!.

"The property is great with superb accommodation for 10."
However it could do with a deep clean particularly in the kitchen. In common with a lot of self catering properties the kitchen gets used but not really cleaned between lettings. The oven didn’t get hot; there’s something wrong as we couldn’t even cook pizzas. The microwave is a bit small for a 10 person property. The other thing was the kitchen tap gets very hot and needs a clear warning. I slightly scalded my hands on the hot setting. I was not using the Quooker boiling water facility.
The property is spacious, well equipped and the children enjoyed the pool table.

"A nice, comfortable stay in a well located and well equipped large property."
Very helpful, quick acting owners. Plenty of space. The bathrooms look very new. As did the laminate flooring. The kitchen is well equipped. Lovely Denby crockery. 2 lounges with Sky TV in one. And a billiard table in the secret room for evening competitive action! Some flooring and decor is a little tired, but perfectly fine for a week's stay. As with other cottages we've used, the cleaners forget to look up or under! Whilst this might be picky, it did detract from the overall cleanliness. This is so easily rectified too!
We would stay again, if back in the North East.

"We had a lovely stay at barnacre."
Very comfortable beds. We loved the big living room & hidden games room was a big hit with everyone. Our only negative feedback would be the kitchen, particularly the oven being small for the size of the property & not working very well. We were cooking for 11 people each night of our stay & it took 3-4 times the usual cooking times to cook anything. All the heat seemed to come into the kitchen, making the room very hot (but not the food!)
Thank you for your review. The oven is a double oven. Normally large enough for a family meal. It is not a fan oven so a slightly longer cooking time is required. Not 3/4 times longer. I use the oven regularly so I am fully familiar with it.
It was the hottest weekend of the year so far, that’s why the kitchen was hot

"Barnacre and its neighboring property, The Granary are our favorite places to stay when we visit from the States each year."
The properties together give us plenty of room for our large and ever-growing family. Barnacre has everything we need, plenty of rooms for us to spread out or hang out together, a beautiful little outdoor courtyard and a large front garden where the kids like to run around. The location is fabulous, a quiet little village. It is near Morpeth where you will find most of the shops you need and also close to beautiful Northumbrian beaches, castles and other attractions. There are plenty of options for eating out, we just found a new one this year, The Courtyard in Pegswood, a 3 minute drive, I highly recommend. We also cook a lot ourselves and love that there is a lot of beautiful dinnerware provided. Plenty of serving dishes too. I say it every year, it is like our home away from home.

"We’ve just returned from a week in Barnacre and found the property perfect for a large family group."
The property is really lovely and the photos don’t do it the justice it deserves. It’s beautifully furnished with high quality fittings and is extremely well equipped. The kitchen is small but adequate and the beautiful dining room nearby. Our favorite spot was the smaller table by the exterior doors to the courtyard. Lovely for breakfast and can seat 6 comfortably. The bedrooms are all large- well equipped and very inviting. Everything is immaculate and the welcome pack a nice touch. Very spacious accommodation if there are a few of you. The games room was also a bonus and well used !!
There are however a couple of issues which could be easily remedied. Some of the windows and the patio doors are hard to fasten once open. We couldn’t find a vacuum cleaner? As the rooms are carpeted we would have more than willingly hoovered round during the week. Perhaps a little more information in the booklet? Shops/ places of interest/ restaurants and medical facilities. This may just help visitors plan. These are not criticisms just recommendations.
We had a problem with the heating- boiler in the small lounge and although the owner came out promptly it wasn’t satisfactorily solved.
All in all we had a fantastic week and enjoyed the house.

"We had a fantastic week at Barnacre - the house exceeded our expectations."
The pool table was a great addition and it was lovely to see my son learn a new game and get so much better as the week progressed. The location is fantastic with some lovely country walks on the doorstep and a short drive into Morpeth and my favourite beach at Cresswell. The hosts were very quick to respond to messages when we needed help with the sky package. We are already planning a return visit! Thank you for such a fantastic week.

The house provided everything that we needed, our only gripe being the kitchen is on the small side, however the rest of the house is very spacious. The house was ideal for our 3 small grandchildren as it was all on one level and they enjoyed playing in the garden.

We love the property and the location. Plenty of room for our large family and we book the adjoining property The Granary so that our friends can come to stay too. We had our young grandchildren with us this year and found that being on one level so convenient and safe for them. They too now love the house and will no doubt look forward to our visits there as much as we do.

"Everything was perfect."
It’s a beautiful spacious property and very comfortable and clean. Bedrooms are large and en suite and lovely walk in showers. It’s in a quiet peaceful village and easy to access Northumberland’s coastline and visitor attractions.
The only slight disadvantage it has is the small kitchen. Not room for more than 4 to sit at a table in a compact space. It also meant a walk down a corridor to carry meals down to the dining room. But overall a 5 star property..

"We had a fabulous weekend stay at Barnacre."
The cottage was comfortable, clean and child friendly. Beds were extremely comfortable, rooms spacious apart from kitchen but a large dining area made up for this. Only small problem was the large fridge had a puddle on the floor from the freezer side which I reported after leaving. There's a private outdoor area and a spacious area at the front also. We enjoyed nearby Cresswell beach and Morpeth Coronation Fair day nearby.
Thanks for a great weekend. We will definitely return.

"Generally the accommodation was of a very high standard, and spacious."
The kitchen lacked some of the polish of the rest of the accommodation, however. There were 9 in our party (5 adults, 4 children) and the oven was inadequate. It was too small and inefficient to cook a meal for that many people. The oven was only effective at it hottest setting, and took much longer to cook than our normal electric fan oven. Also, the property needs a larger dishwasher. It was impossible to get dinner plates in the lower basket without the upper basket raised to its highest setting, which prevented that being used for side plates and dishes, or even some of the glasses. Also, filling all the available space meant that the dishwasher did not clean efffectively.
The G-Tech vacuum cleaner provided was so full and clogged with hair that it did not work, and had to be emptied and the roller cleaned, so that we could use it.
The property notes folder had very little information contained in it, and there was no contact number for problems. We had a small water leak in an en-suite sink but there was no guidance on how to report it.
On the positive side, the availability of Sky tv in both lounges was appreciated, particularly by the children. The bedrooms were very comfortable and well appointed. We would have appreciated more and larger towels when showering, but they were adequate.
The laundry facilties were good, with the large capacity washing machine and tumble dryer working well.
The oven is a conventional family size gas double oven. It is always recommended to cook on a higher temperature than a fan oven.
The dishwasher was only installed the day before you arrived as a brand new replacement.
The contact number is in the Sykes booking information
The cleaning lady always empties the vacuum cleaner.

A lot of thought and care has gone into the planning and equipping of this gorgeous property and garden. My one suggestion is for a more accessible chair in the lounge for elderly less mobile guests. Our party included three generations which were all accommodated comfortably.
