  • "We choose the accomadation purely on its location and that did not fail to impress, Marsden coastline is beautiful and exactly what we wanted, to hear the sea as we fell asleep and woke."

    The staff were all very welcoming and polite. The accomadation was cute and basic had most of what you would need to cater for your self, but do pack your own cloths, tea towels. The appartment its self would benefit from a new mattress and a mattress protector, we did find it uncomfortable and could do with a better clean between guests and attention to detail in the presentation and cleanliness of kitchen items and appliances, also a better floor brush and mop and bucket to keep up with the sand underfoot to bring it up to 3.5 even 4 stars . When we arrived there was a lovely chap jet washing and said he had been hired recently to help maintain the building which was nice to hear, as there is some simple but time consumming tasks, like clearing gutterings and general up keep on the exterior maintaince of the building cared for which given its location i am sure is like the forth bridge !! Although we visited Beamish , sunderland, Bambrough and newcastle in the days , Over all we enjoyed the cut off from the outside world so not having Wifi or a phone signal was a blessing not a bind.. so dont let that put you off..   • "The location is outstanding!"

    The staff in the grotto couldn’t be more helpful and friendly and the food we ate at the Grotto was fantastic. The seafood was beautiful and we ate there every night. The accommodation needed a deep clean! It also lacked a few basics like tea towels, dish cloths etc and would be an amazing place if somebody gave it a bit of TLC. Having said that we will be returning as we absolutely loved the location and the food in the Grotto.

    Accommodation always well prepared. Staff at the Grotto always friendly and helpful. Ideal for a quiet break and great for the dog Be back again in 2026.

  • "Nice clean, warm studio apartment."

    The two seater sofa looks good but very uncomfortable to sit on for a week. The kitchen requires extra equipment IE measuring bowls, jugs etc. This staff are very friendly and aim to please. This was our second visit and have rebooked for 2026 based on location.

  • "Couldn’t recommend anything about this apartment."

    It smelled of sewage and student accommodation standard. I have stayed in the hotel and it was wonderful. I am well acquainted with the grotto I lived nearby as a child and had my wedding reception here many years ago. Badly equipped one bath towel between two no T towel although was rectified when asked it shouldn’t have happened. Crockery cupboard one big mess should have been tidy. The view was the saving grace you couldn’t put a price on it. Wouldn’t go again I expected a lot more.

  • "This was our second visit, but I dont think we will return."

    The blanket over the sofa was grubby, as was the counterpane. The insides of the mugs were stained, and the cutlery didn't look very clean. We washed everything thoroughly before using . Outside looked more unkempt than before. That said, the accommodation is very well thought out. A place for everything you might need. The food in the restaurant was lovely, but the prices have risen quite a bit. Sad to say, there still seems to be a problem with smelly drains.

  • "The location of the property is fantastic."

    The apartment is well equipped and ideal for two people. We had a lovely relaxing break with great walks on the stunning coast. The private patio is a great place to sit and enjoy the view and relax. As others have commented the terrace for the Grotto is immediately in front of the apartment and as it was Bank Holiday this was busy and rubbish accumulated, but was cleared away eventually. There is no phone signal or WiFi in the apartment or the Hotel, not a problem for us, but worth noting, and you also need to remember to bring a tea-towel. The freezer badly needed defrosting and was unusable during our stay. Overall this was great place to stay and we will definitely return.

  • "Beautiful place steeped in history."

    Stunning views Friendly staff . Outdoors of the bar area sadly had lots of cutlery on the floor cigarette ends that should really have been cleared daily. It was there throughout our 3 day stay.It just made the place look scruffy which was sad. But something easy to rectify. The Food was Beautiful .lovely coastal walks. Upon leaving, the cleaner showed us some history about the building which was really interesting and so thoughtful of her to take the time to tell us .She asked if we had enjoyed our stay.and wished us a safe journey home. A fantastic member of the team!! Overall a wonderful stay!! and we would definitely return.
