  • "A very comfortable and well equipped property."

We enjoyed the welcoming gifts of fresh flowers, lemon drizzle cake, milk and a bottle of wine.

  • "Absolutely beautiful location, and really well appointed cottage."

Everything you need and a complimentary bottle of wine was a nice touch. For me, however, I found the bed far too firm. Almost hard. I guess this may suit some people but I think an optional memory foam topper would easily solve this. I used one of their cuddly fleece blankets on top of the bottom sheet which helped, marginally, but it really needs a topper (or a new mattress). I also found the chairs/sofa in the lounge not very comfortable. It's OK for a few minutes but an evening of tv had me constantly shifting in my seat. I did wonder if it was just me, but my friend who was with me also struggled to get comfortable. I really don't want to put anyone off going as it really is a lovely place (and the photo doesn't really do it justice!) but if those items could be addressed it would make it so much better. Just one other minor thing, the wardrobe doors make a lot of noise when opening and closing, which might disturb anyone still in bed if their partner was an early riser.

We hope we will be able to return, thanks for a most enjoyable stay. Regards Nancy & Billy Dunfermline, Scotland

There was everything we could possibly need and a lot more besides. Plenty of information about the area to plan day trips. Very comfortable beds and ensuites. A lovely time of the year to visit in May. Sightings of brown hares from the kitchen windows.

  • "A fantastic property very well situated for exploring Northumberland."

It was very clean and looked after and felt very warm and homely. The owner had provided everything you could need. The only criticism was that the pillows were quite flat and hard which I know some people prefer but it would be nice to have at least some that are a bit plumper. I would highly recommend this property. We had a fabulous week there.

  • "Fabulous house, ( it would be an insult to call it a cottage)."

Better than any of the others we have stayed in over the years. Well equiped for self catering. Near to Wallington, Cragside National trust properties, plus coastal sites. A good base for walking and site seeing. Just a short trip to Alnwick, and Morpeth. A nice touch that a bottle of wine was left for us, and the owner called to see if we had all we needed. A place definitely to recommend.

The Granary is delightful, extremely well furnished, spotlessly clean, with everything you need for a very comfortable holiday. The location is ideal for visiting all areas of Northumbria. Some very much appreciated ‘Welcome’ touches and an attentive owner on hand nearby if necessary. We’ve already booked again for next year. Thank you.

  • "The Granary is a beautiful property, well maintained and very clean."

The owners were friendly and the wine, cake and flowers were much appreciated. The review would have been 5 stars, but for one thing, the mattress on the double bed was not comfortable, it was hard and not the quality you expect in this level of property. As it was only my daughter and myself I was able to make the mattress much softer by putting one of the single duvets on top, without this problem it would have been perfect!!

It is extremely well equipped and clean and the owners are next door and only too happy to help if needed (which we didn't really need as everything worked and was to hand) The location is good for travel to NT Cragside, the Northumberland coast and Holy Island is less than 1 hour away. Very easy to find things to do. Whilst the cottage is down a country lane it was so quiet, peaceful and enjoyable to sit out on the patio. I don't usually write reviews but I felt I must give credit where it's due. .

This is the nicest Sykes cottage I have stayed in. The owners were great, coming to greet us and check everything was OK within a couple of hours of our arrival. The property is a barn conversion and has been done to a very high standard, with en suites in both bedrooms as well as another toilet downstairs next to the utility room. The log burner in the living room was prepared with kindling and wood ready to be lit when we arrived, alongside a stock of wood for the week. The village of Longframlington is very nice, with two decent pubs. We had an excellent meal at the Granby Inn, and also had a couple of wonderful breakfasts at the Running Fox bakery / cafe. Over the course of the week we had days out in Edinburgh, Alnwick Castle, Hadrians Wall, Seahouses and Lindisfarne as well as a boat trip out around the Farne Islands. We had a fantastic time at The Granary and our kids have asked if we can go back again next year.
