  • "Absolutely wonderful stay at Newton Retreat last week."

Our third stay in Northumberland and definitely the last time we need to think about where we might stay on another trip. Could not fault anything with this property. We stayed as a couple and found the property perfect in every way. A family of four or two couples would be just as suited as plenty space and storage for up to 4. When we return we are going to book for the “summer” months to hopefully enable us to use the available outdoor space and surroundings when the temperatures are warmer to sit outside in the evenings. The only noise you will hear are that of birds, the owners’ dogs when they are having a run around the farm or the occasional train but so quiet, relaxing and peaceful. A lovely welcome hamper of milk, biscuits, wine and crisps was much appreciated. Fabulous location for exploring by car, on foot or as we did mainly by bike. A good five mile return walk to Embleton but perhaps only two or three to the local pubs in Criston Bank or Rennington if you do want to walk to the village pub for a pint or two. Can’t wait to return in 2023.

The cottage was clean and warm and welcoming, we would definitely recommend it to our friends and family.

Spacious and light.Well specced, with all the facilities needed. Large comfortable beds and hot showers. Quiet and secluded, but attentive owner close by. Well positioned for exploring the Northumbrian coast. Highly recommended

  • "Beautiful, peaceful and well equipped cottage."

Great location near to our favourite places and close to those fabulous beaches. We had a lovely stay here, one of the best cottages that we have stayed in. Sadly didn’t get to use the fire because we had fabulous weather which was a bonus early November. Highly recommended.

  • "This is a truly lovely property; luxurious (wasted on the kids but we loved it!"

) and comfortable and surrounded by fields. Simply idyllic. There were hares and deer in the field behind, the kids could go off and explore and it was very quiet. Jeremy the owner was very friendly and helpful. There are two other holiday properties on the farm but Newton Retreat is set slightly apart and we barely saw or heard anything of the other families staying there. There is so much to see and do in the area, we hardly scratched the surface; it was our first time to Northumberland but certainly will not be the last. I would absolutely love to stay again. Thank you Jeremy for this wonderful place.

  • "We were not able to stay at Newtons Retreat because we had to covid isolate."

We took out covid insurance with Sykes, however it didn't covid isolating - so the cottage remained empty all week and we lost all our money. We'll never use Sykes again.

  • "Lovely house beautifully furnished great wee touches like white company toiletries."

Seating outside to watch the sun go down and so many birds around to watch and listen to. Jeremy was a great host and we had everything we needed for a really relaxing week. It was a cold week so we lot the stove some nights and just relaxed in the comfy sofas. Kitchen was really well equipped too.

  • "Really peaceful & comfortable - even quieter than at home."

Very welcome when some people out & about are not observing social distancing & we wanted to go back to the cottage more often than usual - it lived up to its name of retreat! TV & WIFI were excellent - very helpful for the wet days so we could enjoy relaxing the whole time we were away. All the kitchen facilities we needed to cook & eat in the cottage, also particularly welcome in the current climate. Some lovely walks from Walks on the Northumberland Coast by David Haffey - best enjoyed getting out early before the crowds though there is always space on the lovely wide beaches. Only an hour to the Scottish borders which were lovely to enjoy on the wet days - abbey ruins & some gorgeous galleries. We would love to visit again.

  • "The lodge was excellent; maintained to a very high standard."

It was a real home from home- well equipped and had lots of little well thought of touches to make it an even more enjoyable stay. It was very peaceful - just what we wanted. Although it was well off the main road you were not faced with driving up dirt tracks to get there. Jeremy our host, was very welcoming when we met him and then we were left in peace to enjoy the rest of our time there. The Rock/Christon Bank area is a great base for being able to visit lots of places. We think The Newton Retreat is an excellent place to stay at any time of year. Rent this property and you will want for nothing, and you'll bathe in the biggest deepest bath you've ever bathed in. You are so far from the road there is zero traffic noise. All you will have for company is the birds and the occasional passing hare.

It is a really comfortable place with everything you need for your stay. Little extras from the owners Jeremy and Elaine from the welcome pack luxury toiletries make it extra special. We were met by Jeremy who explained how the technical things worked and also gave us information about the local area and places to eat. The outside space is amazing lovely gardens and we did manage to sit outside and take in the lovely views. Newton Retreat is a lovely tranquil place and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in this part of the country.

  • "We had a wonderful week at Newton Retreat in Northumberland."

The open plan cottage was absolutely gorgeous, with everything you could possibly need, including a welcome pack filled with goodies. The furnishings were stylish, beautiful and top quality, which made our stay really luxurious. We enjoyed a lovely sunny walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh castle, then ate a delicious seafood lunch at The Jolly Fisherman. Bamburgh and Alnwick castles were both worth visiting and our sons, 9 and 10 really enjoyed them. We had a lovely day at Berwick where we walked round the old walls and took in the views. All in all a great area and a beautiful cottage.
